damage has a random element, but the forumla (do we even KNOW the formulas??) is also so complex that random values could just be the result of a 20 variable equation. We know for sure the equation is a combination of at least these (constants and variables):
- your power level (constantly changing for many/most players)
- target resists (constantly changing if group has debuffs or target has buffs)
- distance (all energy weapons)
- your buffs (Ep2W, attack patterns, whatever)
- where it hits (IIRC energy weaps do more to shield, a little less to hull, projectiles the reverse?)
and other factors as well. Even just this short, incomplete list show that damage should basically change for each shot as distances change (both targets are not stationary usually), power levels jump around, etc. Any random element is lost in the noise.
