Kumari Escort - Wing Cannons

Hi guys, i have a little question. I have parked my kumari escort since time ago, and i am considering to make a build only for having fun with the Kumari Escort. Back in the days i never used the wing cannons as a part of my build, i only used em to have fun using the overloaded burst sometimes, but i used to replace em with another HDC. But i only played with the Kumari for about 2-3 months, and now i am going to use it to have fun farming dil, for example.

My question is, are the Kumari cannons as bad as people say? or can i use em in regular play (to do farming tours and things like that) as they will perform at least as other heavy cannons? i really like em, but i dont want to have a useless weapon mounted in my ship :)

I know i need the 3 equipment set from the other Andorian ships to be able to use the cannon with cannon skills, but what i mean is, if the base damage they inflict is enough to be worthy (even if it is lower than other cannons) or not..

Anyways, the overloaded burst i remember having a lot of fun with it, riding the enmy's shields in 1 burst is always a fun thing to do ^^

    The problem I believe is not their lack of damage, it's that the ability has a long cooldown, which in today's STO with it's ridiculous Burst DPS is pretty much pointless.

    It's like the Thalaron Pulse Weapon on the Scimitar, it just take to long to fire.

    Your better of using that slot for a sustained damage/heal/buff console.

    Then too, the Phaser Energy type is currently not in vogue in STO, due to it's Proc not being considered very valuable, and to make the most out of a build, it's considered bad mojo to mix Energy Damage types (a Skittle or Rainbow Boat)

    So you have to use all Phaser weapons and Phaser Damage Consoles to get the most out of them ...

    Agreed, Cryptic is pushing out more things to spend money on, but they're not putting in the quality, nor are they going back to readjust older things. The wing cannons are one of those things. As stated, they kind of suck. Testing it, they did less damage for me than a turret, but with much less firing. While they have full 360 degree movement, they are still limited to the short forward arc and a cooldown that is way too long for how little they do.

    I use them on mine. They come in handy for those smaller ships that usually are in a cluster. That with a cannon volley and torpedo spread, usually about wipes them out in the first pass.

    I don't intend to replace them with a different weapon. They will be used.

    I have the Kumari and my perspective is that it's a pure heresy to not use the wing cannons on a ship designed to use wing cannons. Really, if the sight of the wing cannons firing doesn't make you warm on the inside, I don't what to say...:D

    One thing you need to know about STO is that people overreact a lot. Especially on the forum. There's nothing wrong with the cannons, but around here everyone bows to the [Acc] mod, while these wing cannons have [Dmg]x4 mod. Doesn't mean that they're really bad.
    Let me tell you a thing about accuracy. I use the wing cannons combined with fleet Andorian phasers. Those have [Acc]x2 mod. My Andorian Captain has +10% Acc, then I use the Kumari 2-piece set bonus and I get +10% Acc. Consider the Acc from rep.passives and you'll soon realize that accuracy is not something you should worry about.

    The 3-piece set bonus enables your wing cannon platforms (I bolded this because you weren't clear in your post) to synergize with your Boff powers, but otherwise the regular wing cannons allways react to Boff powers just as any other weapon. I don't use them myself (the platforms), but I use the other 2 consoles from the set - the Tachyon Induction Relay and the Phaser Dispersal Array because I find the usefull and the animation is just beautifull to look at, plus I get the Acc. bonus.

    The Kumari wing cannons are something that frankly belongs to the ship. They are one of the most beautifull weapons to look at when firing and their special abilites are mesmerizing. Combine them with blue fleet Andorian phasers and you have the most beautiful fireworks in STO. The Kumari firing everything blue + the animation of the wing cannons fire is a sight to behold.
    And don't worry, you can use them in regular play and any content. They're not bad as people make them sound sometimes. I have been using them in every end-game content and I do well.

    Yeah, if i could get the full set, i will sure use the wing cannons, but the problem is i only have the Kumari, not the other ones. So thats my question, if they are worthy without the full set. The only purpose of the wing cannon will be the overloaded burst, but i dunno since as you say guys, it takes too long to charge.

    If one day i have the full set i will not doubt on use wing cannons (the full set really atracts me), but for now i think ima going to replace em for a full set of antiproton cannons (that and tetryon are the only energy types i still didnt try..).

    P,D I really love the andorian phasers as well... dunno why :eek:, and i agree about the beauty of the wing cannons, thats one of the reasons i adquired the ship in first place :D

    Well, I have used them as a single item without their 2 or 3 piece set bonus and I was not dissatisfied with their preformance, however I use phasers. So I agree, if you build your ship with antiproton or tetryon weapons it maybe better to use a weapon that can be boosted by such consoles untill you get the set and switch to phasers.

    I thing for the Kumari its all or nothing (or consoles and cannons or none). The best thing coming out of it is the deployable cannons being effected by rf/ sv, which needs all consoles.
    And of you are going for real efficiency.... you still better choose nothing and use disruptors or plasma weapons..

    I personally use all.... I paid as much for it as I'd pay for an entire full priced game, so I use it. Also it looks nice.

    wing cannons aren't bad weapons by themselves, BUT...

    1) they are phasers, and i'd say the phaser proc is borderline worthless, but that isn't even a reason to not use them.
    2) you only really need or want them if you use 1 or 2 consoles from the set (otherwise the consoles wouldn't function, and this by itself makes them probably the most useless consoles ever conceived)
    3) this is part of number 2: the cooldown on the consoles is sooooo long that they are so far behind in usefullness that they are an idiocy to even put on your ship in the first place. And this brings you back to point number 2, why bother with the wing cannon in that case.

    so the usefullness of the wing cannons depends on the usefullness of each of the consoles...and none of the consoles is actually a good choice for a build.


    i first thought that the wing cannon pets would be a "usable" console...negative, without the wing cannons they spawn, but do not fire a single shot. And even with the cannons, the dmg is meh, and they die a lot and the cooldown to spawn them again is HUGE.

    the overload seems great...but then u get the enormous cooldown, again.

    compared with the javeline (1 min cd, build in) i can't even understand how this 2 abilities are in the same game. Same goes for the lance of the fed dreadnought.
    compareable abilities, but the cooldown difference seems from different games.
