month one you have 14.99 save that next month you have 30 keep doing this till you have the money for a life time......
Which is fine when the game is FTP, like it is now. Not so great for those first 2 years when you had to pay monthly to play.
I would have rather paid $15.00 per month and played every day then to do nothing for 2 years and then buy an LTS.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
To make the LTS save money the game needs to remain open for 20 months. Or 1 year 8 months to be the same as a paid subscription.
With the veteran rewards. Unique LTS abilities and costumes. As well as no longer having to find the $15 a month if money is ever tight. It can be a blessing and good investment.
And now that you no longer pay the subscription you can turn that into a subscription elsewhere, or perhaps zen or more grocery money.
As for the doom and gloom of the naysayer. Since the one in question also wonders why they bother playing at all. Thier opinion matters far less.

Well, as you are only making a little over $700.00 per month, and you were Subscribing for $45.00 a month - as well as saving for an LTS - you must not have any other expenses; or you live in a country with an extremely cheap standard of living cost.

dont go their i live in the USA also i do pay rent pay my cable pay my lights pay my water bill nice try but no cookie for you self control and money management skill all you need
I am new to STO and I have to say it was the F2P aspect of the game that made me give it a shot. Overall I like STO, but not enough to subscribe. Hell, I am huge fan of Elders Scrolls, but no way in hell I am going to pay a monthly subscription for ESO.
Playing games for free is great, but the developer need money to just maintain the game, and more money to develop new content. While I can grind dilithium to buy Zen, I will drop real money on certain "services" like more ship slots and character slots from time to time just so that developer can get some real cold hard cash in their hands. The worst possible thing that can happen to STO is everyone converts to F2P and everyone simply grinds away to continue to play for free.... that is continue to play until STO as a game itself goes "bankrupt" and shuts down.
I'll probably sub for a month just to get the expanded inventory since many people to do that. They also tell me that as a subscriber I get a free captain respec token every time I level up. What if I am already max level (Vice Admiral)? Will I automatically get one token or will I never get one since I cannot level up any further?
Respec'ing my VA isn't an absolute necessity since I still have around 35k skill points left to allocate for space and probably 12k for ground. But I do know that i made some early choices that weren't great, so I did "waste" a few points, but not much I think.

Well, during college I was living in a crappy, roach-infested, studio in Chicago and paying over $700 per month in rent. I spent most of my time eating Raman and working two jobs to make ends meet. I cannot easily comprehend how do it alone on around $600.00 after paying for 3 Subscription, utilities, internet, etc. Bravo to you!

know who to call and where to look also dont live in the city
As I was going to Northwestern, as well as working in the city, living in the city was basically required.

In less than 90 days from now, I will hit my 1000 days and I will go back to being a Silver, like I have done at other times since F2P.
Albeit a Silver with lots of legacy Gold perks and having bought the EC cap increase already...

Captains, can we please nip the nastiness and snark? It really isn't necessary to fight over this...

I suggest some of you edit your posts before I get around to it.

If someone gives me a free car then it is a free car to me. I do not care how much he paid for it.
no but if he said in exchange for the car you must make 6million widgets for me cos I cant be bothered to make them myself you would not class it as free.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I've played since early access and I've subbed on and off since FTP. Don't forget theres the 500 Zen per month Stipend. Zen is easily earned and I've bough a load of the Stores items and I'm sitting on 6k Zen at the mo which all has been earned except 500 from selling Dillitium as I have 16 cadets all grinding dill. So as said before, unless you want to actively support cryptic, just sub a month, log all your cadets then go FTP.
I wish all FTP games had this model, never winter is next to impossible for the average Joe to gain enough astral diamonds to buy anything so be thankful its so easy in STO.
