Just visited New Romulus for the first time. Questions seemed to be being asked about how the wildlife, and the Romulans themselves for that matter, survived the radiation.
It all makes sense now!
Seriously though, I ♥ NR. But I'm not that bothered about the rifle and Critical Hit or Personal Shield bonus that you get for saving up Romulan Marks. Certainly not bothered enough to save up THAT many - am I right in thinking that 1 Romulan Mark = 1 Romulan Reputation XP? I haven't done the reputation system before.
Are there any missions there that give anything else as a reward? Or is there anything else more interesting you get with the Romulan Reputation? Hard to tell just from looking around, and I'm loth to go over the STOWiki pages too closely on account of spoilers. Any advice would be appreciated.

Besides the abilities that are unlocked each time you rank up to another tier, you also get projects to unlock equipment in the Reputation store (click the "Store" tab in the reputation window to see what you currently have unlocked). For the Romulan reputation path, you unlock mainly Romulan Plasma weapons for ground and space use (they have the regular Plasma proc plus the regular Disruptor proc). Also, you unlock projects to requisition the premium Romulan gear, such as the Shield/Engine/Deflector set or the Torpedo/Beam/Module set. The torpedo--the Romulan Hyper-Plasma Torpedo--shoots three plasma torpedoes at a time and is a favorite among many players. The set bonus on the Shield/Engine/Deflector set also enhances all plasma torpedo launchers so that the High Yield torpedoes travel faster and are harder to shoot down, so players who use plasma torpedoes often like that set.
The Romulan Reputation path is also the only way to get the Elite Scorpion Fighter hanger item for carrier-type ships. Many players consider these to be some of the best fighters available.
