I recently bought a Fleet Corsair, I wanted to try out a carrier other than my mirror carrier.
I am having trouble coming up with a loadout that inspires confidence from me and strikes fear into the hearts of the red shirts in my way.
Not that I PvP, I do mostly elite PvE.
I have the elite fleet obelisk swarmers (if I remember that name right).
But...weapons? What is the word on weapons for this crate? Slow turn rate, I assume the tactic would be to come up into range and drop speed and just keep firing away rather than moving in too fast.
What are some of the weapon loadouts you're using? Very very interested in what works for folks.
Right now I have a mishmash of beam arrays in the rear, and torpedoes and banks up front
I prefer frigates but with only 1 bay the pet choice is less critical.
The turn rate supports dual beam banks for the majority of PVE content. Or you can do a beam array broadside build, which usually means 6 beams and 2 torps or something like that.
I am in a different carrier but its not turning any faster, and I use beam banks. AP build so my back has cutting beam, ob carrier beam turret thingy, and a generic turret.
You have a hefty sci officer on that thing: you can drop GW and fire at will to get rid of smaller, faster craft that are hard to aim at with banks and slow turn.
Its never going to be a top dps ship (not that it matters, you can do enough). You have almost no tactical officer skills. Its designed as a healer/tank/support ship. The karfi is the dps carrier with 2 bays and tac officers, and of course that one is more fragile...
You could stick to torps and crank up your aux power and heal/sci at stuff. But that is not really useful in STFs anymore as most people don't need the help (but it would be a fine setup if you are in a weaker group, which does happen from time to time).
Your a cruiser, and a support cruiser at that. Your not likely to see big damage numbers. But to get the most damage out of that ship use plasma and the fleet romulan science consoles.
You can also go one of 3 ways, shield stripper, a controller, or a healer/tank ? I would also suggest you stick with beam arrays and broadside, with out a lt com in tac dual beams aren't really worth it.
He has the exact same tac seats for DBB as for arrays? Its more of a style thing, prefer forward facing (some do) or 360 coverage. Both can use FAW. I would not slot the low level overload either way. Arrays will get better FAW coverage, while DBB will focus fire the GW pile-on.
I dunno maybe try both.
Personally I prefer the arrays if not using a lot of powers. The reason I use DBB is I have several forward facing skills (including GW) and time I turn 90 degrees for broadside the fight is half over.
Based on this and my experience so far with the Corsair, I am definitely going to go with the Beam Arrays and focus on broadsiding.
I am tailoring a boff now to begin using gravity well. This is a ship being used by my KDF Science captain...I had actually set up skills for things such as GW, Tractor Beam, and such.
I will, if fleet credit holds out lol, pick out the consoles last. I figure since I am still grinding rep, some will become available through that system.
Going to pull the torps off her and put my two b-banks up front...and may just replace them later if I find I am not firing them effectively.
Thanks for the help, second opinions always seem to clarify the picture.
you want at least 6 weapons in the sweet spot on the side. 2 DBB up front and 6 arrays would DO that if its an 8 slot ship (I already forgot!). Should be fine: in the frontal 90 degree arc you get 4 weapons, on the sides 6, on the back 4 lesser weapons. There will be a tiny sliver on the front sides where the back can't fire and the DBB up front can't fire making for only 2 weapons, but its a SMALL area of only 10 degrees on each side.
That is, if UP is 90 degrees (standard coordinates), the arc between 35 and 45 degrees (from zero, east/right/x axis) is only covered by 2. That is not a huge concern to me, I think this is an interesting idea and you should try it.
Again, the reason I did what I did was for a sci captain: several skills are forward facing... if you find yourself nose to the enemy more than sideways, then 4 DBB and 4 360 aft is better. GW is one of those, so is nuc beam, etc.... well, you will see for yourself what works for you.
