They synergize nicely with the Dyson stuff/ship. Otherwise, they're simply "okay".
If you're setting up a DSD or planning on using the Dyson set, go for it. Otherwise, you'll be just fine with normal Polarons. There are also Phased Polarons, but they'll be rather expensive to acquire now(from the dominion lockbox).
They're only worth using if you can get very high crits (over 20% minimum) or if you are buffing the proton proc. Otherwise you're better off with one of the other polaron flavors
Fleet polaron will do the most raw damage, every shot
Polarized disruptors will boost team damage by lowering the target's resists, when the proc occurs
Phased polaron will randomly disable one of the target's subsystems, when the proc occurs, assuming it hasn't already occurred recently (lockout)
The odd thing about them is that the two procs don't seem to synergize very well. If you build up as DPS with a really high crith and/or protonic bonus, then the protonic proc is great but the polaron is mostly 'so what?' If you're going to do a drain build and really max out the polaron proc, then you probably aren't going to buff the protonic proc a whole lot and would probably be better off with another [acc] or [crtd] modifier. Either way you get kind of a wasted modifer slot better used on something else. If they'd done the protonic proc with AP or disruptor or even phaser there would be some synergy between them, but with polaron I'm just not sure how to use these things without wasting some aspect of them.
I have them on a Dyson ship I use mostly for RP, loaded up with the new Solanae Set and previously with the Dyson set... and they're nothing to rave about, but they're not bad either.
Proton proc on them is a bit low, but if you're using the Dyson Experimental Proton and the Proton cannon on the Dyson ship, then you might as well use the Polaron Proton, to buff up the Proton damage. But if you're not using the other proton weapons, then there isn't enough Proton on them to make a huge impact.
And there are better Polaron weapons out there. If you're looking for Polaron weapons, my suggestion is grab the free polaron Jemmie weapons from the Jemmie Missions, then save up for Phased Polaron.
But if you're not set on Polaron weapons, there are so many better weapons out there then Polaron, Phaser and Disruptor styles, some of them are even pretty cheap on the exchange.
I've used all three Polaron variants; fleet, phased and the protonic.
I have always believed the phased version whas your best buy, fleet secondary. Recently on 2 Falchion builds I've swapped out phased polaron arrays with dual beam protonic polaron units.
The protonic polarons work rather well, and I am seeing a noticeable increase in hull damage while shields are up.
The only draw back with protonic is the lack of decent consoles to support the proton damage component.
I'm running protonic polaron + proton weapon on my dyson destroyer.
With my crit rate (~30%) i'm seeing the proc quite a lot. I've boosted my proton damage to about 90% and polaron to around 80% with the autotargetting consoles. The +proton damage more than compensates for the loss in polaron compared to using pure polaron consoles since i have the proton dhc, experimental proton weapon, 1 protonic polaron dhc, grav torp up front and then the emo beam and 2x protonic polaron turrets in the back.
The proc on the weapons, was hitting voth for 1136 damage yesterday when i ran breach, It itsn't bad at all imo, and it was happening fairly often. Easiest way i saw it was shooting their reflect shields, the proc goes right thru it and hits pure hull, unresistable.
Phased polaron sounds good but there expensive, protonic polaron has a nice proc and as stated goes through shields thanks to proton, i might give it a go but it will be painful in the dil pocket lol i dont want to run the jem set as im liking the solonae and eventually want borg set, too bad no tet polaron lol
I use Protonic polarons (or protopols, as I've taken to calling them) on my tulwar
On a high crit build, they are pretty great; the transphasic-esque direct hull damage (during a servetity boosted attack) adding a decent amount of 'bleedthrough' - Not to mention the fact they do not -have- to be buffed via console - its one of the few weapon types whose proc can be buffed by tactical abilities (beta, delta, apo, doffed tac team, ect)
Its also great if you have plasma proc embassy consoles for even more transphasic-type hull damage
On top of this, you have the high drain potential on top creating quite an intresting weapon varient
Costwise, its a purple xii weapon with mods you can choose (unless you dysonbox it, in which case good luck) - in terms of dil (converted to a zen value) to ec (based on stable key prices), its cost is extremely competetive to xii weapons and to fleet weapons that require similar dilithium costs and extra funding via credits
Of course the main reason I like them is they fire pinky purple bolts of lightening
So prob best to stick with the fleet polaron? I used the rom weapons both dhc n beams on other chars so as sci i want to be different, my mates using phasers so dont want to copy but phased polaron sounds the best yet but i like the idea of the proc goin off and disabling a ship

Only if you're fighting Voth, really.
