So you are in the middle of a time-limited critical mission. Trying to line up /find a very hard to see target...you are almost there and...

"CAPTAIN SPAMAZING@ILUVSPAM HAS JUST WON A SUPER DELUXE LIMITED EDITION ELITE NEW FACTION BATTLE CRUISER!!!!"

"CAPTAIN SPAMAZING 2@ILUVSPAM HAS JUST WON A SUPER DELUXE LIMITED EDITION ELITE NEW FACTION BATTLE CRUISER!!!!"

"CAPTAIN SPAMAZING 3@ILUVSPAM HAS JUST WON A SUPER DELUXE LIMITED EDITION ELITE NEW FACTION BATTLE CRUISER!!!!"

And for some reason you lost track of the target. Mission failure. Get angry at wasting that half-hour, vent, play another game for a while. Take a deep breath...and try again.

Is there an option to turn off the banner spam? Not sure how other folks feel, but for me it obliterates immersion and hinders gameplay. Or is there an option only have the spam show up in the chat window? Or when you are making a purchase in the c-store?

I understand the need for advertising, even in the face of paying subscribers...but that endless wall of scrolling sales ads perhaps could use some tweaking? :D

You can also simply just move the Notification panel up to the top of your screen where you never need to really see it.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

If it's flashing on EVERYONE's screens at once, is it really private?

He's asking about the big gold letters the fly in every so often when someone gets a top level lockbox prize.
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
    What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!

Or down just over your chat box. I moved mine there and it has ceased to be a distraction, blending in with the scrolling chat text.

    lol...

I assume you're joking, look at the 'names' that he has used.

ON TOPIC: This is one of the first settings I ever changed, most annoying to have fly-ins on any game. The same info comes up in chat if I really need to know the wonderful news of someone, somewhere winning(?) something...

By the way, what DO most of those announcements mean? Are they all awards versus purchases? And if so, where are they coming from? I get that the No Win Sceneario ones are from a mission somewhere...but I've never really stopped to try to figure those announcements out and I'm curious.

I'm usually busy doing things when they flash by and don't read em carefully or get to them fast enough.

The No Win Scenario is from the No Win Scenario in the PVE queues. Most run it through private queues though.

The "Name@handle has won X starship" are from people getting ships from lockboxes. They do that so that you think "Oh wow, lots of people are getting ships. Maybe I should open some boxes too!" Or at least, that's what they want you to think. Luckily you can turn them off.

I've never gotten a lockbox ship, but I've heard from those who have that the messages serve another purpose, to direct people to bombard you with PMs trying to get you to sell the thing to them for way below what you could get for it on the exchange.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

The announcements fly by fast enough that I usually can't read through the whole thing anyway. Sometimes though I'll see an announcement that's in a completely different language. What in the hell is the point of that? Someone didn't think this system all the way through.

Because for whatever (dumb) reason, the 'Y has won X' message shows up in the language that the OWNER won it in on EVERYONE'S client. So if Y is using the German language client, it'll show up in German on everyone's client.

I...really, really don't get why it's set that way. At all. But it happens in all 3 games. Just thank the Gods you can turn it off in CO and STO. In NW you're stuck with that spam.

    Yeah, happened to me.

I got the Tal Shiar adapted destroyer, and then someone sent me a message asking if they could buy it from me at half~ what they were listed for on the exchange.

I had thought that the message was only for when someone actually opened the reward box for the ship, binding it to themselves, but it was at that time that I discovered that it was just for getting the ship box out of the lockbox.

I wonder if it triggers on receiving the box. I mean, if someone buys one from the AH are they then shown as having gotten whatever ship?
