They turn on a pivot like a science ship, can one-shot you with an uber beam that seems to have a similar firing arc to regular beam weapons, and seem to have borrowed the Borg's invisible death torpedo... Unless they have found a way to remote detonate your ship from over 10km away.
Maybe a little too much for a Centurion in his little T2 Warbird? Perhaps?
And I really love it when they fly around like a Keldon in the Alhena system. That one was amusing; especially when it said it was going to assimilate me.
That's interesting. This is happening in the Romulan Cardassian arc. Is it sending a Cube in an incorrect skin?
Regardless, it's not yelling Borgisms at me. It's just beating me like I stole money from the mob. Thankfully, I have enough XP to skip to the next mission
The issue of the Heavy Orbital Weapons Platforms in Cardassian spawns has a fix in that should be live this week IIRC. Check the patch notes to be sure.
But to be honest, they'd be a great OhnoohnoohnoOHNO enemy as-is in the right context.
I'm kinda in agreance with this ... I too fell victim to the Borgdassian Death Turrets (I'm 'gonna copyright that name BTW) And although perhaps a little too much for my low level Romulan toon, I did eventually beat them (after being fragged about 5 times)
In a higher level, where they are maybe 2 or 3 shots Death Rays, they might be fun as a "Random"
"Oh %**%& ... Oh **%&&" enemy.
On my last runthrough of that mission leveling up a Romulan, I actually heard the Borg vocals as the OWP was firing, so the concept of it being a cube or sphere with a different skin may have merit. Heard the Borg effects on 3 separate occasions during the fight. (Just before my Ha'nom got disintegrated in one shot-from full shields and 100% hull)
I too found the Cardy Heavy Weapon platform (HWP) to be an interesting opponent. I posted battle tactics on a previous thread regarding how to destroy it. It's "achille's heel" is its rear facing. If possible, stay cloaked, ignore the Hidekis and get as close to the HWP as possible. Maneuver behind it, staying as close as you can to it. It does turn and maneuver but it is slow and if you stay close and watch your speed and turn to stay behind it, your ship will probably be able to out-maneuver it and stay behind it. Decloak and blast it the strongest alpha strike you have; all power to weapons, eptW, batteries, beam overload HYT; everything, including the kitchen sink. It can absorb some damage so if you are not a DPS-asaurus Rex, you are going to have to stay behind it because with its extended range weapon, even a full speed escape may not be possible.
The hidekis can be a problem since all power is diverted to weapons, they will start pounding your shields and hull. I managed reasonably well using RSP, tac team, aux to StrI and anything else I had. Once the HWP is destroyed, you can divert all power to engines and outrun the hidekis so that you can make repairs then go back in and make the hidekis pay for their insolence.
I liked the HWP . It was a worthy opponent and if proper tactics are engaged, it is beatable. I hope they leave it as-is. On the plus side, it doesn't appear on replay missions. You have a Keldon to deal with instead. At least that was my experience.
It felt like I was hit with phaser lances (overpowered ones at that) what I took two to the fore of my Dreadnought; destroyed the foreward shield took 20% and then took 35%. Imagine going up to a virtual wall of those things.
I never saw the fear in orbital weapons platforms... but now I see why the federation, klingons and romulans had problems with them during the dominion war. Those suckers hit hard.
Note to self and others, don't take them head on if your not in a cruiser. Even if in a cruiser, run and gun.

You, I can also attest to the Borg vocals on the Heavy Platforms. I ran into them on just about every mission in that story arc that involved orbital defenses and I cursed Cryptic every step of the way during the ensuing fight. They are not fun when you're a single escort.
With that said though, they are certainly beatable. It takes a while but you can wear them down. Personally I found speed to be my greatest strength in the fights so I would fly in, drain shields, volley, torpedo and high tail out of range to recover.
It wasn't only the platforms though. Sometimes you'd run into the big battle cruisers and on a few occasion they seemed way over powered for that level.
Perhaps it all ties in with the whole "adapting borg tech for personal use" sub plot. Or maybe it's just a bug. Who know? Sure made it interesting though.
It's not the only thing that's gone odd recently. I have seen the Intrepid show up in a few foundry missions now where it didn't before. Before that, it was the U.S.S. Renown that was popping up as random federation spawns. This glitch seems to have a lot of relatives.
Ah yeah I remember doing that mission recently and wondering "when did a random planetary defense turret show up?" (Because a convoy would be dragging one of those things along with it?....Mmmmkay)
Also I kept getting Borg audio clips all the while it was there...No borg ships around though just a few cardy and that turret.
If you can get behind it it's easy enough to blow up, but ya it felt really out of place.
Battlecloaking Romulan ships have the best advantage to pound, cloak, heal, and repeat. I did it on my rommie last night. My Klink failed miserably. My Feddie... I don't even remember beating that mission with my enterprise-c clone but apparently I did.

oh, and U.S.S. voyager is being found a lot in the Breech, either inside and captured, or one of the initial npc ships that gets blown up.
L2P bro. L2P. These things are no problem if you think about what you need to do. I know, thinking is a lost art but still. If my half brain dead (too much beer) can take these out with a little effort in Advanced difficulty mode anyone can do it.
Isn't it ok that there's something in the game that offers some challenge without someone crying about it? Also, the way they are now is in line with canon. These things completely decimated an allied Fed/KDF fleet in the DS9 episode and were basically invincible until they found a way to take out their power source.
Use evasive. Get behind them and stay behind them. You''ll be fine.
Had some in a foundry mission the other day and they were a little too OP. One shot from 25 km doing 200K in damage. That was in elite settings. Knock the range to 15 km or really lower the ACC (my preference). Plus the damage needs to be cut in half. Even then it'd still one shot kill most.

It's been reported once already and the more data the devs have, the quicker it'll get fixed.

Pretty sure they're not even supposed to show up.
