It would seem that with all the features and events introduced with Season 8.5 the new Smallcraft Arena PvP queue has been mostly ignored.
I myself remembered about it a few days ago and decided to try it out. And boy, even though I'm not a big fun of PvP, I found this one really fun.
Sadly, nobody seems to be playing it. Getting 8-10 people into the queue can take from 5 to 30 minutes even during peak hours, which is really disappointing.
That's why I wanted to remind you all about this mode and highly encourage you to at least give it a try. Here's why:
- You don't have to switch to a smallcraft manually. If you have one selected, you'll be thrown into it. It works as your normal queued mission.
- There's no crazy "power creep". You've just got two weapons and a couple of consoles and skills. That's it - you've got to make due. And it's surprisingly fun, especially since you can experiment a lot with different builds, from torpedo spreads, to full beams, cluster torpedos, alpha strikes and many more.
- It doesn't take long - a 15 frag match takes about 5 minutes on average and rarely drags on.
- It's a great way to complete all the PvP daily missions, as well as all the KDF-specific PvP missions (kill X Feds, die Y times etc.) for decent dilithium rewards.
- It's not meant to be taken seriously and from what I've seen people are aware of this. Teamplay is still essential, but it's not as serious as your typical starship PvP. I am yet to see any griefers and such.
So I encourage you - give it a try. Personally I've found it to be more fun that I've expected.
Agreed, I'm loving the new mode. Can see myself spending a lot of time there, more so when Tribble goes live and the Nimbus/Fleet Support exploits vanish.
Why should I? Just to be ***** by lifetimers in their Chariots and Capt. Yachts or by a lobi Timeshuttle? No thx.
Tyr shall give me strength! For the glory of Tempus! I am the hands of Shar! Flames of Kossuth, protect me! Oghma, grant me knowledge! Lolth commands, and I obey!
I just don't like having to wait for 30 minutes with the right equipment on the stalker, or try to switch equipment out in the 60 seconds once it comes up.

Arguably, the vet shuttles, are one of the worst. Certinatly behind the Delta Flyer, or the To'Duj.
I would do the shuttle PVP, but I spent more time in respawn then in the match, and kills are almost instant, with no way of resisting like wit hAlpha Strikes, and the fact that the queues take so long to activate. Other then that it was fun.
i had a ton of fun with this mode when i tried it, and im a full-time pve player, im the type of player that'll take a cruiser and slap a ton of different weapons and consoles on it cuz it looks nice even though i know i could tripple my performance with a proper build, so just to share what i experienced when i did it:
i jumped in my scorpion (yes i know, i know, "you got battlecloak bla bla bla") i threw some fleet gear on it and two dual cannons, a few low-quality consoles and what happened? i had a ton of fun, sure i died quite a few times but i sure gave as good as i got, i tell ya shuttle pvp is so much fun you wouldn't believe it, pretty much only raw firepower has something to say in it since you are very limited in abilites.
I played it several times the day after 8.5 launched, but I got very bored with it. All the map is, is "everyone fly to the center of the map and shoot each other." It's really, really boring. Maybe if they had other maps I might play it again.
Sadly, nobody seems to be playing it. Getting 8-10 people into the queue can take from 5 to 30 minutes even during peak hours, which is really disappointing.
That's probably because most PvPers have specific builds for Space, and jumping into a ship with 2 fore weapons, no aft and less than 3 console slots per profession probably screws with their builds.
Like all other PvP queues, i'll be avoiding this one like the plague.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.

That's why I wanted to draw some attention to Shuttle PvP - so that people would try it out and perhaps queue more often, so we wouldn't have to wait for eternity for a game to start.
I personally perceive it as a casual, yet funny PvP mode. Mostly that's why I enocurage people to give it a try. It's a new kind of experience and (finally) a reason to dust off our shuttles we've been using only for those two story missions...
hopefully the tribble build goes live this week... no more cruiser support ships, and no more pirate support in shuttles... right now who ever wins is the team with the most cruiser support ships.
I did some pretty indepth research on all the shuttles in game and the Tholian Widow is the most powerful. It has a Eng Tac and and Ens Sci plus 2 Tac consoles and a Sci console.
This allows you to do this:
Romulan Singularity Harness: %7.6 buff to Plasma damage and Crth boost
Embassy Sci Console (your choice) %9.6 buff to plasma
2 Spire Plasma Tac consoles %31.9 boost to plasma each, plus your crth boost
You can run THY and have the Plasma Hyperflux beam ability. And a Sci Ens skill.
There are some shuttles that have some nice built in abilities like HE and TB and things but as far as console and boff seating this ship is better than any other.
Shuttle PvP is worse than regular. Just load up on universal consoles and clicky abilities and you win. Shuttle PvP is like the regular PvP queues, just more annoying.
Hey hey now!

I actually like Delta Rising.
