Just as the correct answer to "Have you seen Star Trek V?" is "The one with Michael Dorn as Worf's grandfather? And Christopher Plummer as Chang? And Captain Sulu? Yes, it was awesome."
Here is a good question. If jjAbrams were to be involved in the release of Star Trek Online content, would you play it? I wonder how many would not, for I most certainly would NOT play jjTrek STO content.

It would be fun. He would destroy Vulcan, invalidate half the equipment that people have worked years to get, introduce new enemies and remove old one - (who needs Cardassians anyways?), redesign all the ships. Surly it would renew interest in the game after he re-booted it to comply with HIS vision of what Trek should be. I mean after all, if he couldn't get rid of the old generation stuff, then surly he HAS to take control of STO to make sure that the majority of the Trek universe conforms to HIS vision, right?

Basically alienate all the fans over the last 40 or so years just so he can say "This franchise is mine and I'll do what I want!"
Ugh, he is a bad fan fiction writer. Worse, he's a bad fan fiction writer with the power to actually make his crappy fics real.

Don't you think the obligatory JJ hate thread is redundant at this point?
Not only that, but the (somewhat) constant claims about JJ Abrams doing what he wants, his ego and not caring about the previous fanbase... both when they're somewhat biased by hatred, opinions, combination or such AND they don't actually know Abrams personally...
It gets boring after awhile, thinking they could know what would happen, even in rants
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.
Yeah, I can, unfortunately, easily see that happening. Man, JJ is such an egomaniacal little poser...
So, y'all can see into alternate timelines to see what would have happened...
...but Abrams is an "egomaniacal little poser"? It's not like he declared all other Trek gone - in fact, in the '09 movie, the characters specifically state that they are in an alternate timeline, one in which events unfolded differently, but merely one of many possible alternities (to borrow a word from Kube-McDowell).
Yeah, I agree with adverbero - the whole "we hate JJ" thing really is overdone at this point. It's not like he's the first person to "destroy Star Trek", after all - go check out what Roddenberry thought of every movie but the first one. (The first season of TNG dragged as horribly as it did partly because the actors were still getting a feel for their characters, and partly because Roddenberry was purposely trying to distance the series from the movies, which he felt had exchanged "the soul of Star Trek" for "meaningless action sequences" like the Battle of the Mutara Nebula.)
Don?t Expect Elements from J.J. Abrams? Star Trek to Appear in Star Trek Online Anytime Soon
"Star Trek Online continues quite some time after the events of 2002′s Star Trek: Nemesis, and is essentially one of the best amalgamations of the Star Trek canon in gaming. While some of the events that occurred in J.J. Abrams? 2009 (abomination) film, Star Trek, appear in the game, Cryptic has once again confirmed that nothing else outside of that will be appearing in Star Trek Online anytime soon."
Key phrase there being "Anytime SOON", meaning the future is up for grabs.
And he has already proven that he dislikes any games that might contradict his vision in this following article. So why would he NOT try to take on STO?
J.J. Abrams Gripes About ?Star Trek? Video Game: ?A Big Disappointment To Me?
"Fanboy gamers often complain that studio meddling somehow ruined a video game tied to a major movie release. It?s less common to hear an A-list filmmaker blame developers for messing with his movie. Star Trek Into Darkness is the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2013, but its director seems to think it could have done better ? if it hadn?t been for that pesky video game. J.J. Abrams said in an interview with GamerHub this week that Star Trek: The Game ? which generated terrible reviews and crummy sales ? ?was obviously a big disappointment to me. We were actually involved from the very beginning, and then we sort of realized that it was not going in a place where we were going to get what we wanted. So we dropped out, and they continued to do it despite ? y?know.? Yahoo Games says developer Digital Extremes has pointed fingers at Paramount, claiming the studio?s heavy involvement was a burden, but Abrams the developer ? and even thinks the glitchy game might have hurt Star Trek Into Darkness at the box office. ?For me, emotionally, it hurt because we were working our asses off making the movie and then this game came out and it got ? this isn?t even my opinion ? it got universally panned,? he said. ?And I think that it was something without question that didn?t help the movie and arguably hurt it.? Agree with Abrams or not, he certainly wouldn?t be able to blame any Star Wars shortcomings on a video game."
And further proof of jjAbrams eye on STO...here is the quote..
"The Starfleet uniforms seen in the comic resemble those developed for Star Trek Online.[5] Cryptic Studios is tying into the comic by including Picard's promotion to ambassador to Vulcan and Data's resurrection and promotion in the backstory to its game.[6][7] Another in-joke in the comic is the inclusion of the mascot from Bad Robot Productions – J. J. Abrams' production company – in Picard's quarters."
And while I'm at it. From the official Star Trek Site.

No, he just tried really hard to do so. Fortunately, TPTB told him to cram it, and we wound up with an alterna-verse adventure, and an intact PrimeVerse... As I've said before, my dislike of JJ is not because of what he has done to Star Trek (I actually quite enjoy Into Darkness, and now seen it 6-7 times...) but his apparent persona, and his entire back catalogue of work... To be fair to JJ, the issues with Into Darkness were down to the writers (who ironically, I enjoy their work on Hawaii 5-0) and he pulled a pretty watchable film from an incredibly mediocre script... If he's arrogant enough to do the same to Star Wars as he has done to Star Trek, he's going to get lynched at the first convention he attends (if he even deigns to attend cons [unlike the awesome actors of Babylon 5...] )
Speculation and conjecture are strong on forums aren't they

That's a very interesting statement in context with the title of this thread - because Orzi and Kurtzman, authors of the scripts for both the '09 movie and Into Darkness, are quite publicly proclaimed Trek fanboys. And let's face facts, they're the ones responsible for all those bits that people want to hate on Abrams for. Orzi and Kurtzman blew up ch'Rihan, dropped a mythical "red matter" black-hole generator into Vulcan, made Kirk's stepdad into an abusive jerkass, and claimed that a Romulan mining vessel, just because it was enhanced by Borg tech, could take on and defeat nearly the entirety of Starfleet. (I haven't seen STID yet, but whatever you hate about that flick, unless it has to do with lens flares or someone's acting, was their responsibility too.)
So maybe having a "fan" in charge wouldn't necessarily make for a better flick...
Speculation and conjecture are strong on forums aren't they
I especially like when they cite the debunked as rumor article about JJ wanting all the classic TOS merchindise discontinued despite said article flat out saying neither Bad Robot or CBS not commenting on it as well as the fact that only one site is running this story so it sounds like a load of TRIBBLE.
It's also funny when they arrogantly presume to speak for all Trek fans despite no proof that this is the case outside of one poll of 100 people taken at a Trek convention of at least 1000 people while ignoring anything that doesn't fit their narrative.
What I think most people are forgetting is .. Like it or Lump it, CBS holds the rights to all (?) things Start Trek, so what they say goes ... As to what is "canon" and what isn't? Well, they decide that!
IF they decide that JJ Trek is now "canon" then we have to accept it or move on ... CBS has laid down some rules in the past to Cryptic, and I'm sure they will lay down more, but if CBS tell PWE (Cryptic) that something from JJ Trek is now "lore" then what choice do PWE (Cryptic) have but to go along?
We may not like it, and "die hard" fans of TOS and TNG may get all up on a soap box about it, but ultimately it's about CBS making money, and if they can sell more tickets to a JJ Trek movie than a Gene Trek movie, they will ...
Anyone who has read the original Tolkien LotR books will know what sacrifices were made by Jackson and what a mockery he made of the 'lore', but there is a whole generation (or several generations) of people who have never read the books, and never will, so Jackson's LotR essentially has now become "canon" ...
Same has, or will happen, with Star Trek and as a consequence STO ... PWE and Cryptic will either have to go along with what CBS wants or GTFO ...

I reject your premise. I've been reading every word Tolkein wrote since I learned how to read. Jackson's work is an interpretation of the original text, not a copy, it is important to note that distinction, just as any Star Trek after TOS is a continuation/interpretation, not a copy. I certainly do not believe the movies to be in any way a mockery of the lore.
/edit: further ranting removed. Not going to do any good anyway.

I think he was referring to the nuts that took the Lord of the Rings way, way too seriously and actually did perceive the movies to be an affront. I personally knew one such individual. Whenever the movies came up in conversation, he had... a very interesting... perspective.
Unfortunately, Star Trek seems to have hordes of these type of people.

The only affront in that franchise is those damn Eagles.
Could have ended that war months, even YEARS in advance. All it would have took was twenty minutes of flight. But nooooooo! That doesn't happen. Because Eagles are jerks.

the only real problem i had with the film was spock calling himself
yeah that was a bit odd, also how are they able to call new Vulcan, but unable to call for Starfleet back up at that point? Surely Marcus can't exert full control over starfleet, somebody could have come to help surely?

"Only ship in the quadrant" perhaps? It's not the first time such a thing would happen to the Enterprise.
Well, all I have to put forward, is that every Trek film since The Wrath of Khan has been called the killer of Trek. Especially, when TMP, TWOK, and TNG were all soft reboots of the franchise. Two by Roddenberry and one by Meyers. Except for the lens flares, the reasons why some hate the film are essentially the same.
Hey, if Transformers can fathom having multiple continuities at the same time, why can't the fans of a franchise that promotes exploring new worlds cannot even accept a new reality?
Comments
Let me put it this way: I have read dozens of fanfics that were better than Miracle Day.
This Stargate: SG-1/Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover is better than Miracle Day: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7679074/1/The-Dragon-King-s-Temple
Clive Cussler's books are better than Miracle Day, even though Dirk Pitt is a total Gary Stu.
Yup, Miracle Day is one of those things that, like Highlander II, people try and pretend never happened :-\
What is Highlander 2?
(it has a place on my Shelf of Shame)
Is the right answer
