Luxuries are the novelty items BoP. These are pets and fireworks and entourages. These items that mean nothing and everything should be held in their own compartment area and not in standard inventory.
Please give us a Luxuries tab in our inventory to store these novelty items and leave the inventory itself to the mission items and consumables.
I personally prefer the way SWTOR deals with pets and mounts. Pet items and Mount items are consumables that gives a summon power in your General Powers tab. A Restructuring of the Power Window to organize things better and the addition of Luxury Tabs would be a better fix.
If they just add a Luxury Inventory Tab, then we will eventually reach the point where there is not enough Inventory Space again.
Not personally familiar with how MMOs handle pets, so I won't speak to that, but this feels a bit like the thread asking for special slots for active vs passive consoles; instead of not wanting to decide which console to equip, the OP doesn't want to decide whether to keep his Risan Duck or the leftover pictures Q autographed for them.
Thing is, PWE already has put in place the solution:
Buy More Bank Slots!
I suspect that, even if this were a 2-line code change to impliment, it won't happen unless they find a way to make it offset the Zen that would have been spent on extra bank slots.

Na... It's not that, it's simply to actually seperate useable items, and pets. The Q-Pics and Provisions stay in the inventory/bank, while pets / vanity items go into it's own tabs... And it makes sense.
I suspect that, even if this were a 2-line code change to impliment, it won't happen unless they find a way to make it offset the Zen that would have been spent on extra bank slots.
Easy: Make it say... 10 pet slots, and the ability to buy more.... There you go... moneytized and still usable.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
It'd be great to see something done to help with storage of pets and other vanity items. The TOR system described above sounds pretty good to me.
I'm not opposed to the idea of buying bank slots in principle, but I won't do it just to store more pets. I'd sooner feed all my gingerbread people through the wood chipper.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
Since pets are generally BoP the Pet items should simply be usable once and unlock a summon power.
That's it.
Same as other summon items like the pirate call or Azura freighter.
The Pirate, Azura, Suliban and those are still an item in your inventory and are not consumed into a simple button on your power tray (but they should be) the same as pets.
I would be all for a use, consumed and reuse system, however, I would still like the Luxury tab that shows what pets I have available.
This system would also work with the Winter Epoh trade ins as you would simply just need to have not used and consumed it into your pets to be able to trade it in for the Marks.
I think the biggest thing here is that we have nearly 50 variable ground pets and 20 space pets that take up inventory space. That being said there is almost 70 slots of inventory used, some of my characters don't even have that much inventory available period!
The pets should be a summoned item once you added it to your character. So it won't clog up slots for something else. I played a game that was like this. They had a pet/mount tab so you can just click on what you wanted.

Actually I agree with the sentiments of the OP, and not for the reasons that you state bergins. Pictures of Q, Risian Eggs, etc are actual items which are converted into something, and deserve to be inventory. Vanity pets, fireworks, Party Poppers and other such silly fun stuff though have no business being actual inventory. To be honest neither do Tribbles at this point, they're pure fluff. I can see the reason why they might keep them as inventory though.
The real reason many of us dislike the inventory issue you discuss is that some of us are already capped on inventory, have huge #'s of boff slots paid for, massive amounts of ships, and even maximum account bank slots and still end up getting stuffed. It really depends how many characters you have and how long you've played. I've been here since beta access, I'm a lifer, and I use to collect a lot of these little collectibles. I also like to collect unique mission equipment and so forth. Collection is something people like to do in MMO's, but the problem is its getting to a point where the silly collectibles are jamming up even max inventoried accounts and characters. I would purchase more Account bank slots if I could, mainly because it would make trading large amounts of goods between all my characters much easier. The Risian duck serves no purpose really than a chuckle. Same with snowmen and gingerbread men, targs and sehlats and poppers, and fireworks and and and.
As a side note to all of this, my mailbox has really not been properly usable since they limited how many items you can have. I'm happy they let us keep our stuff, its just a lot harder to clean up when you can't see the big picture of what is in there. Doffs and Boffs are the biggest offenders. Many of the doffs and boffs in my mail were there in large part to feed the base. The problem is I can't find them all till I've cleaned up enough to actually see them. A really huge solution here would be to make it possible for us to have an account doff/boff bank. One might argue you could just sell the boffs, but considering I've posted most of them at 50 ec a boff (for superior quality boffs) and didn't make a sale, its mostly just a waste of time. If you can see the mass of boffs/doffs in one location, it makes it easier to feed base projects that demand 20, 30, 70 of such things all at once.
Storage has always been a problem, and I think it has been a problem intentionally to get us to buy space. The only problem is, even if you're maxed out you still fill up. What do you do when you have 400 (well now 500) purple doffs in your roster, and you want to feed your base? Do you actually want to buy doff packs? No. There's been times I haven't simply because it would be way too much work to clean up. I'm of the firm opinion that their stringent inventory space/doff space/boff space actually hurts sales more than helps it. I've spent thousands on the game, and it is still an annoying issue. In great seriousness, if they gave us an increase on the account bank cap I'd probably get 50 more rows if I could. This would make crafting, or feeding commodities vastly simpler and make chasing these items down less of a waste of my time doing busy work I don't want to be doing on a video game. Some of it is fine, but when it becomes all consuming it gets at least partially ignored. I make it a rule that I always do a little cleanup during or at the end of a play session, but that I always have a little fun when I login. If its not fun, why even be here?
I would also pay for a 1,000 Doff Account Slot. This would make feeding out doffs from a doff pack or between characters a lot easier. It could still fill up, but at least its not forcing us to use a very clunky mail system for that purpose.
I realize your point, that PWE wants to make money and offers slight resolutions to the issue, I just don't think the resolutions are enough to actually solve the irritation that players face.

Agreed. We need something new to deal with our pets and our Tribbles. More bank slots aren't the answer. We need something seperate Maybe a Tribble Terrarium for the Tribbles and either a pet storage area or make the pet items grant a summon power like in most MMOs.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I know the Terrarium has been thrown around a number of times. While I am fine having one on my ship, I don?t want to carry it around.
The idea for this thread is items that are JUST storage, namely pets and the fireworks. They serve no purpose in our inventory. Tribbles on the other hand get into everything so therefore should still be a standard inventory item.
We need the SW:TOR model for pets/mounts or at least an expansion of our inventory slots in the form of separate inventory for pets/tribbles. Seriously, the amount of different pets and different tribbles in the game is so high, it's becomming impossible to find a space even with fully maxed out inventory slots.
And I've even taken to using alts for banking space as my main has all the pets and other odds and ends that aren't account bound and thus can't be moved around. I even moved my beloved beverage collection to an alt. And that was after buying up all the bank space there is. So something so space pets and ground pets would be nice indeed.

Agreed all we need is the a call whatever pets we have in the Powers window once you use the item.
I would like to still be able to peruse an inventory of all my pets, not just look for them on my powers list or hotbars. But I really like the idea of having a separate inventory for pets. I know Neverwinter has separate inventories for tokens and crafting assets.
Take a look at my Foundry missions! Conjoined, Re-emergence, and . . .
I'd sooner feed all my gingerbread people through the wood chipper.
Dude, that's NOT how you dispose of gingerbread people. Nom nom nom.
I would like to see pets as powers instead of items. If Cryptic is worried about losing purchased slots, just let people keep the items in the bank and let them summon them anywhere.
Also, sorted tabs of various types of things might be useful.
That's 77 slots just for "basic" junk that tends to drop as you run around. And a "basic" Gold has what, 72 active inventory slots - 108 after buying all the inventory expansions...
This is before you carry your spare weaponry (for example, my main has the old Nukara set in his inventory for when he goes to Nukara or runs into an EV situation, and his spare kits, and the collection items for whatever rep he's working that day, and pets, etc. etc.)
And this hasn't begun to touch the various "collectibles" from the events, like the party popper, gingerbread people Epohhs, vanity pets like Phoenix, crystal shard, type 7 shuttle, etc. etc.
Therefore, I support at least some sort of inventory relief, where, say, vanity pets and/or crafting materials & commodities are placed into "numeric lists" like marks, etc., that will increment/decrement as used and/or activate a "slot" in the power's list so I can banish my P'epohh'mint pet to the lists & I can still put the pet from the "P" powers list to my active powers tray for summoning...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I agree with some of what has been expressed already.
When I get my Mugato or Horta or bird(s) of various sorts, it should become a summon ability that my captain has independent of actually having to carry around the critter.
I had it, I used it, and I should now be able to call upon the pet(s) that I have at any time.
I mean, come on, Cryptic... Not much incentive to collect pets when all they do is jam up precious inventory space.
Fireworks? I want them why? So that I will be able to gather one less drop before my inventory gets filled?
Combat pets are one thing, but these useless little nothings that do not impact gameplay shouldn't take up inventory space, or if they do they should have their own inventory tab.
That, to me, is the compromise. Another inventory tab that is limited but can be expanded through purchase of extra slots.
It may give players an extra slot or 10 right now, but it will give some of those players reason to want to buy extra slots so that they can collect all of the various pets and other fluff without being effectively punished for it.
