Buying The Actual Software Benefits?

edited April 2014 in The Academy
I checked other threads, and there is a lot of conflicting information.

If I buy the Best Buy version of Star Trek online, does it come with a free 30 day subscription?

What benefits will I get that will remain when the 30 days is up?

Does my character have to be to level 50 before the 30 days are up to keep those benefits?

I already bought the Energy Credits Cap increase. And, I already bought 3 additional banks slots on 1 character. Will those slots be increased beyond what the Best Buy set might give me?

Will I get 500 zen for each character, or just 500 for the whole account?

gold benefits kept: larger bank per lvl 50 char (as of 30 days free sub) any lower level bank increase is kept but you wanna hit 50- you also earn other things like re-specs
    stipend 500 per -account-
acct shared bank 10 slots if you dont already have it
plus whatever copy you buy (source) may have other unlocks- I got the collectors ed for like 12 bucks on ebay for my red matter capacitor for every char I ever have.. plus over the years Ive got a few other versions for other unlocks.

I'd like to point out too: The software itself has no value... What you are looking for is Unused keys.

Whatever you get on the Discs is exactly the same as you download from Steam (or *shivers* arc).
The keys are the... Key to benefit.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Do I get an additional character slot or additional bridge officer slots? I bought additonal bridge officer slots for 1 character.

I would love to get the Red Matter Capacitor, but sellers are stupidly and greedily trying to scalp used games where the code is already used, and therefore worthless.

'Gold' status does give you an additional Character slot, but if you revert from 'Gold' back to 'Silver' you lose the empty slot, or if occupied, end up owing Cryptic a Empty slot, and will lose it at the first opportunity... (e.g. if you purchase additional character slots, or gain one through game expansion...)

You also gain additional BO slots (depending on your Rank), and these stay if you should revert back to 'Silver'. Same with the Bank and Personal Inventory slots...

Well, when the title of the thread is "Buying the Actual Software," one assumes that you don't realize that you have a copy of the "actual software," (and more up-to-date!), just not a copy that was printed on a DVD-ROM in a factory.

Another benefit, no need for ARC if you have a physical disc and need to reinstall the game.

Where did you get that Idea?

there was a direct download edition on steam when the game came out, as I recall, that came with the TOS uniforms and a couple other things, but with the free download now, I don't know if that's still available.

To answer one of the OPs questions that hasn't been answered yet, If you've got the EC expansion and you go gold, you don't get any additional room for EC, the C-Store unlock is the same as the paid account EC cap, 1 billion EC.

Actually u dont get any "valuable" advantaje or plus for being gold, i tell u. The only thing u will be doing is support a company that dont care about customers. Anything except the veteran rewards can be bought in the store. The monthly subscription should be a sort of "reward" for cryptic and their good job. But actually i dont see any "good job" since time ago. So thats only the decision of the final customer. But honestly, i paid in the past for a lot of games, and i will never pay a sub for playing this one, its stupid, and a lifetime sub its even more stupid. I dont pay for playing broken games and i dont support the companies that only worries about gathering money and they dont give a fxxx about the customers.

Yeah, but I can't find it.

Amazon had a Liberated Borg Bridge Officer unlock. This sold through on their regular version before the game came out, and for the keys in circulation, is probably a CE exclusive. This is identical to the version in the C-Store EXCEPT it's an account wide unlock.

The CE came with the Red Matter Capacitor

The Digital Deluxe Edition is probably unavailable now, but it included the automated defense turret (a tac console).

Steam had the Chromodynamic armor... probably unavailable.

Target had the TR116a Sniper Rifle. A kinetic rifle that can shoot through walls on it's alt fire.

Gamestop had a TOS Enterprise. This is the same as the tier 1 ship in the C-Store

Best Buy offered a Riv Tribble and a Targ pup to Fed and KDF characters respectively. Again, these are in the C-Store now, but the originals were account unlocks.

Atari offered an EMH Console. No idea if this is still available.

Direct2Drive had a unique Multi Spacial Personal Shield. No idea if there's any way to get keys that include it now. They also offered a Radiometric Converter Console.

NX Registry Codes were available with the Digital Deluxe Edition

Finally there was a Neodymium Deflector from the SyFi channel's store. No idea if this was a boxed copy or a digital release, though.

TNG, TOS, and DS9 uniforms were bundled with the Collector's Edition and Digital Deluxe Editions, but I don't know how they were split up.

I think that's all the major ones.

I have the physical collector's edition purchased from Gamestop <shudder>.

It comes with as was said, the red matter converter, the original Enterprise (TOS) and the "TV series uniforms"; TNG seasons 3-7, early DS9/Voyager uniforms, and late DS9/ movie uniforms. I was reticently able buy the Logitech version code from New Egg which gives account unlocks for the 7 of 9 costume, Fed. Liberated Borg, Tribble of Borg and the title "crash test tribble".

I wish I could find the Collector's edition somewhere for a reasonable price. I'm awaiting the cheap box with the subscription.

A problem I ran into, was my character was level 29, but I never claimed the level 20 promotion to Commander, because I wanted to get the free Skill Respec. Now, the character is level 31 with a promotion mission to Captain that replaced the Commander promotion mission, so I missed out on the Commander level ship (Akira). I clicked Accept when Admiral Quinn hailed me, but I did not talk to him at ESD yet.

If I don't click Accept, will the next promotion wipe out the Captain one? I want to try out the Defiant and I would miss out if it the mission was wiped out.

There's some good stuff to be had in the physical copies of the game, especially the CE. Red Matter Capacitor is always good, the TNG and DS9 uniforms are nice if you don't have them. The various other dealer exclusives are either available on the C-Store or not terribly useful though. It's a good pick up for the RMC, and maybe a month of Gold status. I'd just be careful how much you pay. I got mine for $15, which was pretty good. Since LoR, the game has been getting more popular, and people are scalping what remains of the physical copies. I really wouldn't pay more than $20, maybe $25 considering the value is really just in the free month of sub ($15), and the RMC (hard to say, maybe $5-10)

I entered the code from the retail box. I got 1 new character slot, 50 zen, and account bank with 20 slots.

On my VA character, I got the increased bank & inventory slots, more boff slots.

On my level 34 character, I got some more bank & inventory slots, more boff slots.

Also, I acccepted the Captain promotion and got the skill respec, but don't know where to view this or use it.

The best part of buying a hard copy of the CE isn't the red matter capacitor. It's the starfleet pin, which you can wear on your shirt whenever you're at work or at the bar etc. It let's people know how badass you are.

Nope. All the inventory/bank/etc. slots that are opened up because of the sub are "permanent" unlocks.

The only things "revoked" upon the conclusion of the subscription are the "extra" character slot (will be "owed" to Cryptic upon purchase of an extra character slot set and/or expansion) and the higher EC cap (but, since you bought the C-store one already, it'll be "reactivated" and you won't lose any EC...)

However, if you're in "mid-levelling" of a character, you won't get the expanded inventory, BOff slots, and respec tokens for each rank gained after the sub ends, however, you won't lose those that you got already...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I ran into an issue, where you can't use the same type of code twice. I bought 2 Best Buy versions of the game and it said I can only use 1 of the codes. If another copy of the game is not from Best Buy, but rather from Walmart, is that sufficiently different that I can use it?

Well, as a relative late-comer to STO, I'm not sure how I will unlock the Collector's Edition goodies. For better or worse, I initially installed STO through ARC, and have had no worse issues than most players to date. I have a NEW CE package; so how do I actually go about unlocking all the goodies? I don't think I should be loading files from the physical disc, as least not through the installer, so what is the correct procedure? Any help is greatly appreciated!

First, you need to locate the registration key code for the package. Then you log into the ARC/Website with the account you want the key in... Then go to this page...

I find it funny how everyone is trying to get their hands on the red matter cap. now. I pre ordered the CE way back and people used to say the device was useless. Now everyone is trying to get it. Funny how things change.
