Don't mind me, I'm just trying to puzzle out what happened to Voyager where the writers apparently didn't care about characterization and the ship magically repaired itself after each episode and crewmembers and shuttlecraft returned from oblivion.

The actors, sets, and costumes were wonderful, though.

Serial arc-driven shows tend to do poorly in syndication, they were looking to make each story stand-alone so they could be aired in virtually any order. Hard to do that if certain sequences of events have to take place to make a specific episode make sense.

Remember this was slightly before "instant on demand" online. :) Physical media was still in use, and the show was slated to be re-run in syndication eventually on broadcast TV and cable.

Well, that's why you place a small recap at the start which says "Previously, on Star Trek: Voyager" which shows a few choice scenes relevant to certain events in the episode. TV viewers are smarter than networks give credit for and understand that they'll have missed something.

You are correct, however I was never ever even remotely in a position to suggest such a thing. :D

    There's always a bigger fish...

It seems like the Dominion war was a pretty big deal. The FATE of the Alpha Quandrant!! Except, that was one fourth of one galaxy. And if the Hubble telescope is any indication, there are THOUSANDS of galaxies that can be seen with current technology alone. Just imagine how insignificant everything in Star Trek is compared to the grand scheme. Just imagine how old and ancient and evolved some of the oldest life forms in the universe are. There are probably beings some where in our universe, well beyond the reach of the Milk Way galaxy that actually ARE on par with the fictional being of Q. If not, than certainly possessing sufficient technology to seemingly appear as wizardly to the naked eye.

    "Wizardly" you say?

According to the Weibrand scale, there are a few civilizations as advanced as the Q, but they are ranked the same.

"By itself, the Cardassian Union constitutes an Index 21 culture on the Weibrand logarithmic developmental scale of 1 to 100, where 1 equals any pre-warp civilization, and 100 equals the base level of the unaffected races (UR), such as the Cytherians, the T'Kon, and ultimately the Q. It should be noted that the wormhole entities, the Prophets and the Pah-wraiths, are ranked as Index 90 and as such are not included in the UR category."

Did you enjoy any of the New Frontier novels? I only ask as I enjoyed the initial quartet (especially the relationship between Zak Kebron and Si Cwan which developed while they were arrested) but the novels which followed on from that, I enjoyed less and eventually gave up on...

    No.

(I think it especially irritated me because I knew those characters from the Starfleet Academy kids' books...and then it was a major BLECH moment when I saw them all grown up.)

Yes. Her name is M (short for Mailed Fist).

    RIP Desmond Llewellyn (Q).

I remember the old TOS series when there were quite a few that Kirk had contact with. Like the one that had Kirk battling a Gorn. Or that other one where Kirk and his crew had to deal with a very powerful individual... until that individual's parents came to take him home. Then there's that time when they went to "The Great Barrier" (which we have yet to see in STO). Were they any more powerful than the Q? Or are there others (sorry... never watched the entire TOS run).
