First off, here's the build:

I'm an Engineering VA and wanted a change of pace so I went with these escorts. Always loved the look of them and they perform exceptionally well. However, I'm at a bit of a loss when it comes to how to build one.
I've looked through the boards and came up with a general idea and it's work well so far. However, I can't help but wonder if I'm either doing something wrong or lacking in areas and just don't know it.
Here are a few notes:
1. I have the Experimental Proton Weapon and use it when fighting Voth and for the three piece bonus to crit and such. Couldn't find it on the builder though.
2. What's a good deflector/impulse combo? I hear the Borg set is great but I'm a bit confused on that. The Wiki says that there is a MK XII Borg set, yet the game doesn't list it under the Tier V Omega Force unlock. Should I just go for the MK XI? Or hold out for the MK XII?
3. I plan on keeping the Wing Cannons and their consoles. Are there any other items I should be on the hunt for if, perchance, I decide to mix things up and replace them?
4. Anything you can think of. I'm new to escorts and coming from flying cruisers since...well, since launch, things are quite different for me.
Thanks!

The Borg set (Assimilated Deflector and Assimilated Subtranswarp Engine), a lot of people go for it because the two-piece bonus is a pretty big hull heal that goes off fairly often, and the pieces themselves aren't bad. Still its a question of if you want to give up the passive Defense bonus your Aegis gives you. If you do swap to Borg, personally I stick with Mk11 because it costs half as much but makes only a tiny difference on full impulse speeds only, and you lose 1.8 points on a couple of skills, which you probably couldn't even tell with a parser, so not really worth the cost difference.
Can't tell you anything about the Proton weapon though. Don't own it or know anyone who does, but on paper it looks like it could be really scary if you have a really high crit rate, but a wasted space if you don't. Not sure what else to say.
Boff layout is fairly good, you seem to have quiet a bit of shield heals, which is okay, but you might want to replace the RSP with an aux to sif if you have trouble with hull bleed.
For doffs you really have lots of choices because the simplicity of the build, maybe an attack pattern doff and maybe a warp core doff
