Mimey's Black Friday Tournament

Alright, we ain't had a tournament in awhile, so here's a quick one to get something going. It's going to be structured much like the previous one we had. In fact, I am gonna be lazy and just quote Naz:

I ask, just as a favor to me, please try not to over do the FAW-boats we've seen so much of recently. I don't mean 'I use FAW for clearing spam' and such, I mean the 'DEM-OWA-A2B-FAW' kind of build. If you HAVE to use a FAW-build, at least stay in the holiday spirit and keep it to antiproton/disruptor (or plasma) mix builds, please. It's not a rule, just more a request.


To sign up: Put your @handle and captain type to register. No teams please. However, I'm not worried about how many people actually sign up, it's more just to have SOME kind of tourny since it's been a few weeks.

The winning team will each receive 1 Master Key, and one lockbox of their choice. Yes I know it's a small prize, but it's all I can afford atm. If someone wants to add more to that, it'd be appreciated.

Obviously, being the host, I won't be participating, but anyone else may.

    I don't have a Teamspeak server yet (didn't want to seem pretentious by just automatically saying it would be on the BC TS). Or do you mean something else?

    Yes, no premade teams, as in, teams formed before the tournament is started.

    What will happen, is that I will, when the tourny is here, take everyone who signed up, and mix them up into relatively balanced teams of mixed sci/tac/eng, much like a Tyler Durden match. So there will be teams, just not of people in premade teams.

    So the PvP fleets can't bring a team into it beforehand. Their individual players can sign up, but only as individuals. Or to be more specific, a group of folks from your fleet (like you, sisko, and some others) couldn't all sign up as a team. You would have to sign up individually in this thread, and even then, you wouldn't (most likely) be put on a team together during the tourny.

    Also, Grayfox, don't worry about using FAW. It wasn't so much FAW itself I thought was a bit OTT, more the teams and constant usage of it with 125 weapons power, lots of APB, etc. Just wanted a change up a bit.

    (though I am honestly curious to see if anyone really does use an antiproton/disruptor build of any kind just because it's holiday-ish looking)

    Mimey my friend, I only have one suggestion in regards to your setting up of teams.

    Have a cutoff deadline the day off and stick to it no matter what, otherwise it drags forever. :)

    Hmm, good point. I think 2 PM Eastern Standard time on friday is fair. Two hours before the tourny, if someone didn't have a chance to do so before then, they had a couple days.

    But you might want to look into possibly joining, getting your feet wet. If you are worried about being stomped by a premade, no worries are needed, since teams are kept to be more randomized and such, so they are on a more even footing.

    And there's a vast wealth of knowledge here in this forum that you can dive into, you just need to ask and be open to ideas.

    I'd join, but I just don't feel right about bringing my trolling torp t'varo into a tournament. It is just about as annoying/rage inducing as physically possible. Maybe I'll have some of my legitimate builds ready for the next tourny.

    I know how you feel there. I got a fun little sci-heavy B'rel I take into Ker'rat sometimes. Quite fun.

    If this goes well (I know this was rather short notice for a tourny), I might make more holiday-based tournaments (and possibly prizes related to them if I can figure out anything themed well enough). For example:

    Mimey's Politically Correct and Generic Holiday Tournament

    Mimey's Hungover, Alcohol-induced New Year's Tournament

    Mimey's Sad, Pathetic, Lonely Valentine's Day Tournament.

    Etc

    Probably won't do one for Christmas, might end up being too busy to do anything like that. So my next one most likely will be on New Year's Day.

    I might not be able to make it- it'll depend on what the roads are like tomorrow if I can get home in time.

    If I just don't show up, then it's cause I'm stuck in traffic the next city over.

    I am going to try make this but my connectivity has been glitchy like for 6 months now. Something about upgrades to the cables under the ocean they keep telling me :(
