Faction Themed Reputation System

Extending on an idea I had from writing this yesterday. Would the current game system allow for a Faction Themed Reputation System?

Yesterday (in the above linked thread) I commented on how everything should focus on the Federation, and in hindsight, I still believe that to be the best viable long-term option. I was thinking that this reputation system would work by essentially unlocking new factions once quests (etc) to unlock them have been achieved.

As a Federation character, you'd have to complete certain missions, or acquire certain accolades in order to unlock said faction (different missions and accolades (etc) for different factions). I'd be tempted to throw the Klingon Faction into the unlock too, though understandably that isn't going to be favorable to many.

Once unlocked, you essentially create another character and through a program (that doesn't yet exist) you'd have an officer exchange feature (of sorts) which would allow you to toggle between your main (Federation) and alien characters. You could always feature your First Officer as the transaction; the alien faction you toggle too will always have your Starfleet First Officer as part of the crew (maybe an optional ... option?)

Pros:
* Said idea would allow Cryptic to keep the LoR story (though the initial tutorial and early missions might need to be covered via a time travel arc).
* Said idea wouldn't dilute the playerbase ... at all.
* Factions would need to be earned; which would encourage people to play the game.
* If Player A wanted to play a Cardassian, and Player B a Ferengi, they can unlock only the faction they'd want to feature. They'd not need to waste their time otherwise.
* Each faction could have their own mini story.
*

Cons:
* Klingon / Romulan Players might not want their faction reduced any more than it already is.
* Said idea would require a complete rework of the current factions, characters and bridge officer system.
*

Further pros and cons to be added. I had a whole bunch of them earlier (whilst at work) though they're lost on me now. Typically.

This would need to focus after 2409. 2410/2411?

I think the Fleet system *is* the faction-themed rep, since it culminates in faction-specific elite weapons and special ships. You just can't do it alone.

I don't know about a complete rework of factions but I think it would be nice to have Fed and KDF reps added modelled on the Dyson rep including phaser and disruptor buffing gear respectively. I would rework the faction specific reps such that Feds have T5 fed rep by the time they reach VA (provided they do the storyline, same for KDF and Roms with their respective reps) characters would still have to grind through the reps of the other two factions if they wanted those benefits.

I think you're both missing what I'm trying to say. :(

When Reputations were announced, I was thinking it would have Starfleet organizations and KDF organizations like Section 31, Department of Temporal Investigations, Daystrom Institute, Klingon Intelligence, etc. not the current system. These are the only type of Faction-Themed Reputation Systems that I want to see.

I also thought this back then.
I also thought that reputations would mean acquiring and losing reputation with some factions in Star Trek. For ex., the Ferengi and Tholians are at war, so if I gain favorable reputation with the Tholians, I lose with the Ferengi. And than this would give special, passives, consumables or assets based on who you get along with.

A faction specific rep for each faction would begreat. But not for what OP is suggesting. Apart from the ships and fleet weapons, there's not much difference between the factions skill/ability wise, how they play generally.

Giving faction specific skills/abilities would go a long way towards making them more unique in how they play. Romulans kind of have it with singularity core abilities (id add that to the rep and make it T1 unlock).
I'd make it a 6 tier rep too so you get 2 passives for ground & space each and 2 active abilities, 1 for space and ground.

Your thread title is quite misleading. Should've been more along the lines of "reputation for unlocking species".
Imo, how they have factions is probably the best way of doing it.
They need to be entirely separate and obtainable from the get go. Walling off species behind reputations will just marginalise them, essentially like liberated borg toons are atm
