I rly loved my mogi heavy warbird when i was low lvl. but now that im capped i cant use it effectively. I dont have the budget to get a fleet ship or zen ship. is there a way to play my lower lvl ships at cap? perhaps an upgrade or do i just have to gear them special?

No upgrades, you can fly it, you will just have to hit the "Respawn" button a lot.
I would love to visit this star in-game...or maybe this one!
Won't SOMEONE please think of the CHILDREN?!

The zen ship is the upgrade.

If you want a competitive free ship, use one of the free t5 ones.
It's not my fault if you feel trolled by my Disco ball... Sorry'boutit.

Yes, and the Ha'nom and Ha'feh. Those are all tier 5 ships.

If that's what you picked at level 40, then you might want to pick up the Mirror Ha'Feh off the Exchange (under Rewards Packs) for a ship that feels more like the Mogai.

Is your Rom KDF aligned? If so you can easily get alot of contraband to convert to dilithium and then dilithium to zen. If not, as a Fed, it will take longer, but if you keep saving you will get there. Just keep doing missions like "confiscate contraband" and "strike fugitive support network"

The good thing about leveling up is you can use higher level gear on those low level ships. You could put high level mark 12 gear on a Miranda at level 50 if you wanted. It'll still be held back by those limited weapon and boff slots, but if you're poor and you just gotta fly something iconic...

Also, how lame is it that they relegate the double D and Mogai to "leveling" ships you'll outgrow in a day while your level 50 " endgame" ship looks like a ridiculous brick with wings? The mogai should have been tier 5! :(

Cryptic deliberately nerfed the Rom ships to where using a lower Tier ship means you also miss out on higher tier Singularity abilities, even if you fit higher Mark cores in it. So, on top of having a much lower hull strength, less weapon slots, less BOff powers, you can't use things like Singularity Jump and Overcharge on the T3 Mogai.

The D'Deridex and Mogai, like the Galaxy and Defiant Fed side, being only given out at low levels are being used as hooks to get you to grab the C-Store Tier 5 versions when you get to the end game. If you're willing to fork out the cash or grind up Dil for Zen (which means technically someone else forked over the cash), you can have a Tier 5 Mogai. I fly one myself.

This, pretty much. If you want to fly a Mogai at endgame, get the Retrofit. For extra chuckles, get both the T5 retrofit and the T4 Refit so you can use the Valdore console for shield-heal goodness.

Sounds like a money grab, I know (because it is), but don't be too mad about it, since this is how Cryptic makes money and sustains the game. Seriously, when you think about it, the only worthwhile things to spend Zen on in STO are ships and Master Keys. Well, there's the quality of life improvements like bank slots and EC cap limits, but those are pocket change by comparison to ships.

and since you can get zen by farming Dilithium, there's a proportion of players who can buy "real money" items without actually giving Cryptic money.
