Storming the Spire - Not worth the effort?

johngazmanjohngazman Member Posts: 2,826 Arc User
So I just ran Storming The Spire Elite. For a PUG run, it wasn't half bad. We got more troops on the Spire than the Voth, splashed the Dread pretty quick and still had two minutes to spare to mop up the escaping shuttles.

And at the end, I open my mark package - 31 Dyson Marks, 1 Voth Implant. And this was during the Bonus Marks event.

I mean, what the hell Cryptic? This is Elite. These are the sort of measly rewards i'd expect from normal, not a pretty decent Elite run.

If you're going to tag Storming The Spire as Elite, it needs to have rewards to reflect that;
  • Double the base marks so that on a good run, you're looking at 60-70 marks instead of a TRIBBLE-poor 30 or less.
  • Drop in a random roll for each player that may award additional marks, Voth Implants or random loot.

Frankly, unless this gets changed, I don't much see the point of STS Elite. It's just a harder version of Normal with not enough difference in reward to make it worth my while.

I've only run it once but like you I found the rewards lacking. I would suggest doing the breach instead as you can gain around 70 marks if you do this during the bonus hour.
    Well I can't forget a face but I won't remember y'all.

Then you get stuck with the breach being a long, slow boring mess, you aren't going to win.

Its probably better to put your toon on the ground in the sphere and work marks there, than to use the queues as constant supply. The queues are only going to be good for getting a few marks if you arent already in the sphere, not for grinding them out.

As to the Spire, once people figure out how to work it efficiently and you are able to stop pugging, it will be better.

Breach is questionable too, since its so much more involved and requires more effort due to combat in tight spaces and all the stuff going on.

yeah, my advanced obelisk had a hard time in there due to all the tight corners.

I'm not even sure that they're worth it either. They give out what, 10 - 30 marks tops? Bearing in mind i've just finished T1 Dyson Rep and i'm working on the Ground shield, which requires 500 marks.

Don't even get me started on Breach. Were it not for the fact that it's tediously boring, for a thirty-minute affair i'd expect more than fifty marks.

I'm sorry if this all sounds ungrateful, but frankly, I don't feel the balance has been struck correctly with making the Rep systems less of a grind. For example, Breach and Storming pay out 30-50 marks, respectively, compared to say Khitomer and Infected space Elite, which more often than not pay out around 60-70 marks.

But compare the projects for say the Omega Mk XII shield and the Dyson MK XII shield; You still need 500 Marks for each and five Implants/Processors, in addition to 9k Dilithium and 40k EC/150 Shield Generators, or whatever it is.

So on the face of things, while it's easier to rank your Rep up, it's actually more of a grind than before when it comes to getting enough marks for things due to low payouts and no additional "roll" for extra marks, Implants or loot.

On the other hand, it doesn't require any marks to level up.

With Omega rep, you had to expend in the order of 1600 marks before you could DO ANYTHING AT ALL. 1600 marks was a cost that had to be sunk just into getting your rep up to the point where you COULD get anything.

With Voth rep, most of your marks are yours to keep: You don't have to sink them into things just to advance. Given that these two systems are mechanically different, comparing them directly to each other is not an accurate picture.

Nothing will ever beat Conduit. 100+ marks for 10 minutes plus 1k dil and 1-11 neurals.

I've been playing STS elite and don't think I've ever received more than 31 or 32 marks even during bonus hour, was starting to think it was bugged. As for Breech, the pug team I was playing with was very enthusiastic at first, then we couldn't wait for it to end, and then was horrified at the low rewards. Big time investment for that event, honestly expected more...

The thing I noticed about "The Breach" is it is going to take a few runs to get used to knowing where to go next. Also the timer for getting out once you blow the main core is WAY TOO SHORT!! lol No way any but the fastest ships could possibly hope to make it out before your blown to bits!

The exit is behind the engine core, it dumps you into the chamber where the ship was breached. This isn't Return of the Jedi, you don't leave the way you came in.

Over 1k marks, 38 implants, 6 days worth of rep tokens, 16k refined and over 20k unrefined dilithium.. 6 hours game time in 2 days in the dyson sphere. only 1 dyson queue event. For any other rep I wouldnt be able to get all that at 3 hours a day. I would suggest looking at everything offered and you may find some things give better at one thing but not another. Dyson queue event for implants and a days token, everything else for marks and dilithium.

i've noticed in STS elite that the wrap-up screen never gives credit for what was accomplished. killed the dreadnaught? dread is 50 and each escaping shuttle i believe is 1, but it always says i killed 0. Of course the rewards are typically 20-30 depending on if its the bonus event or not. my assumption is perhaps it is bugged?

Even if it was bugged, it gives low rewards, so, most likely, according to our overlords: Working as Intended.

I remember outnumbering the voth troops, destroying the dread, and knocking down a few shuttles....it was like 30 something marks.

Yesterday, we lost the troop battle 200 - 135, took the dread to 79% (though the end screen said Dread:50 of 50 destroyed) and knocked down some shuttles.

    22 marks.

In my humble opinion, as it stands, it is by far the biggest waste of time. The Voth implant is the only reason to do it, or the daily comm.

But both of those you can get through the breach run and net higher marks.

If you need to pad your post count so you can make a new thread, go to Ten Forward and use some of our forum games. Don't necro months-old threads.

Why isn't something like that a sticky at the top of every forum?

Are you kidding me? I exit the Voth ship with 15 seconds to spare in a cruiser!!!!

The trick is to anticipate the destruction of the core and being close to the exit door flying in generally the right direction when it goes up.

I only once failed and that was when I played it for the first time and didn't even know I had to get out on a timer and when I realized that tried the wrong side of the chamber first.

Also saving an Evasive for the exit helps.

    lmao

okay, I understand that "necro" threads are a "no-no".

But why do people act so offended and insulted by its very existence? It's not as if it took the blood of 50 newborns to necro it.

And the lolaccusation that someone was trying to pad their post count...seems to me the person had a legit post to make, used the search feature, came up with this thread, and posted in it.

Why not let the unpaid community mods deal with spanking someone for a necro?

I missed the day the internet made everyone experts and overseers lol.

I'm joking and I'm not, they don't allow "shaming" people who abuse players in game on the forums, so why "shame" this guy?

    Relax, you'll liver longer.

I did the exact same thing. I hit evasive maneuvers, went one way, everyone else went the other and by the time I got my big butt turned around it was all like: KERPLOWIE!
