Heck, I'm not even sure yet how much of the ship's systems Mycroft can run. He's never tried - his primary programming is in signal intelligence, after all. (That's part of why the S31 report on the Bedford notes that any attempts on her crew should be run well away from the ship proper - D-17 was unsure what, if anything, Mycroft might do about it.)

I always figured Mycroft was more of a crewmember than 'part of the furniture'
Well, remember-Both brothers in New Zealand for dealing Neuroin, illegal contraband tech, and premeditated murder-and they had to tell her to stop visiting because she was joining Starfleet, on account of that kind of family baggage could hurt her chances of Graduating Starfleet Academy and NOT turning into a criminal herself, a Father who should've been in prison but her brothers took him out... Miss Gonzales is well acquainted with the ways of the underworld of the 25th century.
as of 2412, her siblings graduated to Facility 4028 after a series of unfortunate incidents involving some casualties, a Gorn POW, and a couple of injured guards a few years back.
Federation Justice does not look kindly on prison riots, contraband, etc. etc.
Oh for sure, Gonzo would know the underworld, I just loved the mental image it gave me of how Hong Kong is in the era
Like Greg Sander once said, "It's only those of us above or below the Federation who need to worry about things like money." Welcome to the other 1%.
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...

Not sure if Little Moab would have been the option Greg preferred Certainly not what Marcus was born to either, but after 7 years undercover in a Bajoran refugee camp, indoor plumbing and a bed off the floor was welcome
Posting as a sort of bookmark, as access to the forums will not be available for at least another year. Long story, don't want to explain any of it.
Well, maybe by the time you get back, this story will be finished.
Take care.

I would say that she should have issue with the White Queen (Think Dell Spooner's attitude towards robots in I, Robot... Pentaxians have that same innate distrust/distaste of an artificial mind...) but a year working with Barrister, has clearly loosened her up to AI's
There's also a big difference between small AI--the kind like Barrister, or my Exocomp, Blaze, that could be switched off, or shot with a powerful enough assault rifle, if the worst happened, and the kind of AI that literally controls you, as the ship AI's inherently do by virtue of being masters over the ship environment.

It's GOOD to have a bit of..suspicion, someone who doesn't entirely trust the machine-esp. regarding White Queen.
White Queen's an AU-26 Atticus type with special permission/oversight over three Okuda-type AI's- Bandersnatch, Jubbjubb, and Jabberwock-all part of a Multivector Escort.
Their creation was kind of disturbing, really. Alice scanned herself again using an improved version of Crystal Palace (the system she used at Daystrom to create "Wonderland"-the origin point for Cheshire, Red Queen, etc.), then she took the newly created AI, and stressed it until its personality fragmented, then 'grew' the three Okuda-types from the fragments. (and yes, this could be construed as a crime in some circles.)
Individually, they're about S8. When they're conjoined and coordinating through White Queen (i.e. when the MVAE in question is in it's prime form) the whole is about S12 sentience.
having someone with the keys to shut the whole bunch down, who doesn't trust AI, is a GOOD thing.
Absolutely, distrust is good and healthy. For most Pentaxians, it verges on prejudice, which is less healthy... I had wondered if White Queen might have been one of Alice's 'deck', rather than an imprint of Emma Frost  Claire's rated as Class 13, which was why she was kept under armed guard/protective custody during Amanda's board of inquiry following the destruction of the Valkyrie to prevent 'kidnap'...

Absolutely... If Claire were to go rogue (or the original STS AI system were to take over ) the crew would be in trouble... The Vanguard was designed to be capable of being a fully autonomous vessel (like the Andromeda Ascendant) It doesn't need organic crew members, as if a switch needs flipping, it can project a holographic avatar to do so. If the worse was to happen, they could jettison the AI core, but that would compromise all systems until the backup computer core takes over...
We (the authors) are taking a short (~2 week) hiatus from the project. We've been at it for four months - we need to recharge, work on other things, etc.
We will be back though - we won't leave you hanging for long just as its starting to get good!

It's well deserved
I hope my latest entry will be of assistance toward the closure of the early thread about the parts 'finding their way' out of the CTC, and provide an inspirational springboard for continuation
I am expecting and hoping to have at least two completed short stories by the end of the hiatus: my LC#59 entry (FINALLY), and a short story I have been working on to prepare for a cosplay at a con.
Specifically I plan to appear as nuKhan. That is, a female version...I could have attempted to play the male version but it seemed easier to go the "inspired by" route rather than the "screen accurate" route. In the story I am also hoping to address, hopefully respectfully, some of the casting and other controversial aspects about Khan. It is unfortunate that we (the fans and specifically fanfic writers) were put in that sort of position, but I think I can address it in the confines of my "head canon."
One interesting piece of pre-story "study" has been to listen to the musical themes for both Khans. Take the Battle of the Mutara Nebula theme versus Ode to Harrison (the latter can only be found on YouTube), and the emotional read on the two is strikingly different even though there is a common root of inspiration. And while I am not a big Cumberbatch fan, not do I think it was right to cast him as Khan, I am finding myself actually preferring the character as portrayed in JJTrek and more able to get into his head.
Or hers, in this alternate-alternate universe case.
I hope that when it is posted, even people who aren't as crazy abou JJTrek (but who are not just flamers) or haven't ever been interested in a "genderbend fic" will try it as a character piece. The title will be "That Which We Call a Rose." In a few days, prepare to meet Khatun Noonien Kaur...

Mother in Law is a huuuuuuuuuuge Cumberbatch fan... I just refer to him as Sherlock Khan  I totally agree, the JJ take on Khan (emotionally, not in terms of the Magic Blood) makes much more sense than how the character was originally portrayed...
The Magic Blood was annoying...that said, I found it would affect a particular plot point in a surprising way that I think will actually work. I actually wasn't expecting it at first.
Ode to Harrison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m3kV47Jgwg (Described by Michael Giacchino as his "musical portrait" of the character in Into Darkness, though sadly it doesn't appear on the album release of the score.)
While both Khans are nasty psychopaths, somehow there's less batsh*t crazy in nuKhan.

When the guy in charge starts quoting Moby D---, either call him on it (as Lily Sloane did) or get the hell out of there, as things are not going to end well.

Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
Well, maybe by the time you get back, this story will be finished.
Take care.

Just wait till you see what we have in store for later chapters. We've got a few doozies ahead...
