Romulan Republic character history?

Hi, I'm playing a Romulan character and decided to side with the Klingon Empire. I mostly decided to do this because, having played a couple of years ago both Feds and Klingon, I really preferred the latter for the main campaign story.
Playing with the Romulan Republic it really looks, to me, similar to the Federation in cultural terms... I got the impression that Romulan Republic is more composed of "good guys" than "antiheroes", so to speak.
Siding with the Klingons has some effects on the story, or is simply a matter of ships and equipment?
Thanks for your answers :)

I have one of each (Romulan with feds and Reman with KDF). Aside from ships (Science has more choices up to tier 4 with feds, KDF romulans have battlecruisers which can equip DHC although the Mogai is just ace so why change there?) you'll find little difference.

Fed romulans get cluster explorations so can earn dil that way. KDF romulans don't get as many of the "kill/die" a certain number of times to earn dil missions from Lt B'Ela (I have Good Luck Charm and Turret Killer but have never seen the options for Today is a good day to die, space OR ground).
Fed romulans follow most episodes just like a fed would. KDF can now do those missions but with only a small dialogue change (we give back the Rapier, for example, rather than keeping it or blowing it up).

KDF romulan costume options are, IMO, way better than the fed romulan ones, but that is very subjective.

Other than that it really boils down to do you prefer ESD or Q'onos.

You're about right on the history shown. Although if you're talking about your character, then you can go either way. In that case - with the destruction of their home world - that leaves the door wide open for a lot of 'character histories.'
