GG cryptic, you just lost a customer before she created a character

So I've been pestering my girlfriend to play this game with me for a few weeks now. Today is the day, finally. She spent an hour creating a character. And then.. when going down to click on height/stance buttons, this happened:

3:19 PM - Emcitement: son of a *****
3:19 PM - Emcitement: im sorry
3:19 PM - Emcitement: im not doin this right now.
3:19 PM - Rachel: whats wrong?
3:19 PM - Emcitement: I clicked species
3:19 PM - Emcitement: and it reset everything
3:19 PM - Emcitement: im done.
3:19 PM - Rachel: click back to romulan, it may not have altered everything
3:19 PM - Emcitement: It changed everything.
3:19 PM - Rachel: :(
3:20 PM - Emcitement: ****ty game.
3:20 PM - Emcitement: one click erases everything
3:20 PM - Emcitement: ****ing stupid as hell
3:20 PM - Rachel: I knew I should have told you
3:20 PM - Rachel: to click the save costume button
3:20 PM - Emcitement: yeah I really spent an hour sitting here
3:20 PM - Emcitement: because I wanted one click with no confirmation
3:20 PM - Emcitement: to erase it all
3:21 PM - Rachel: *sigh*

GG guys, who knows if she will even want to bother after this. Put a ****ing confirmation dialogue and warning for going back from the costume area of character creation. Also, maybe try auto-saving feature for costumes.

    But it's kinda-sorta funny too...

Every where else in the game, it constantly asks if ya really want to do 'that'...

one of my pet hates with the new UI for the character customization 2.0 is that fact you loose all those features you spent a while doing, including you character biography by pressing the wrong button. it infuriated me no end when i misclicked the wrong button to make a slight adjustment and poof it all went and i have done the char creation process a few times recently and it's happened a lot of times. i can understand her reaction but that species button should be moved over a little bit to avoid misclicking the wrong button so casually.

Sure, but why should someone have to do that?

Me and all my fleet-mates call the beginning character creator the spore editor. We call it this because the only thing its good for with the flaw that you pointed out is for just messing around and trying to make funny looking characters for free. We tell anyone in our fleet that if they decide to make a new character to pretty much skip it (choose faction, species, gender, and department (tac/sci/eng)), and edit their character at a tailor where they can't mess up by doing that.

I did the exact same thing your friend did when I made my last two characters. Even with experience making characters, everyone will at some point TRIBBLE up and delete all their work.

Besides, I think you get a free uniform change immediately after the tutorial anyway.

There is also no confirmation when posting items for sale on the exchange and players loose hard earned dollars there every single day because of that. All they need to do is add a confirmation "do you wish to post this item(s) for X amount?" and then the poster could look at it and go ...wait a minute I just posted 10 of them for the price of 1 and cancel it, but no they let you post it and with in a fraction of a second someone has bought your items and you are SCREWED!

absolutely terrible and no excuse at all for there not being a confirmation, I have had people in my fleet crying because it was payday, they finally have enough money to buy some keys to sell and buy that ship they wanted for the last two months and make one mistake and it all down the drain and PWE/Cryptic won't even attempt to help in this case and really it IS their fault due to no confirmation when posting items for sale on the exchange...

And yet no confirmation when making a character or posting something on the exchange which are BOTH cases where it would be a real help to have a confirmation?

You know, unfortuantely this is just one fine example that they need to do something about the tailor/character creator. It was suposed to be an ehnancement of the previous one, but it all honesty I find it somewhat lacking.

They should at least put back the damn 'undo' button there and also make it so one uncautious click on the presets (that are in the way of everything) doesn't ruin the entire effort you've put in creating your character.

All that will happen with a confirmation button is that people will click it blindly without paying attention to it and continue to make the same mistakes, Or if given the option to disable the pop up, they will shut it off and still make the same mistakes.

We constantly see people complaining about wanting do overs after they ignored a confirmation button.

Then why bother putting in a confirmation in a useless place like when I want to warp away from ESD? There is no need for a confirmation there however where there is a real need for one there is none...

The worst instance of this is when I give my boffs the order to go to Beta Ursae sector and I am leaving from outside of Sol system.

Every single time my ship will bump into the exit to Delta Volanis and my idiot boffs bring the ship to a screeching halt and ask me "do you want to warp into Delta Volanis?"

There was absolutely no mention of Delta Volanis in the order I gave them yet Cryptic thinks it is necessary to get them to stop the ship and ask me anyway.

Yet they can't be bothered to put in a confirmation where it could really do some good like when posting items for sale on the exchange where you actually stand to loose hard earned money, or in character creation where you stand the chance of loosing your last hours work on making the character look just how you wanted it to.

It is called priorities and Cryptic has them all wrong in many cases with STO, I am not sure if it is their fault because they did not design the original game but they could I am sure at least put these confirmations in place where they are needed now.
  • mirrorchaosmirrorchaos Member Posts: 9,844 Arc User

short answer to that confirmation button is the ability to switch it on or off. that way you can accept the consequences or you keep it on and have it annoy you but safe in the knowledge the game will prevent you from making a mistake. or having a more advanced option in the options panel to switch between the various warning panels including the notification screens. so it is more customized to each persons likes and dislikes, that way the exit system confirmation is not an issue while the confirmation screen on the exchange selling an item will stop you in case you made a mistake.
