Dyson Warp Core resisting weapon drain?

khayuungkhayuung Member Posts: 1,877 Arc User
I tried and failed to see there's any difference in weapon drain from firing 8 beam weapons with or without the Dyson core. Mostly due to the fact I have no real idea how to assess weapon drain qualitatively beyond staring at my UI. UI lag makes it impossible for me.

Anyone has a better idea? Or has it been confirmed/disproved that the Dyson core reduces weapon power drain as well?

Put all beam arrays in, no overcap, batteries, the core, or anything else to increase weapon power. BFAW at a single target and watch the power level. then repeat with the core. If it reduces weapon power drain you will see a differance.

Did some testing on this using 4 beam arrays, with 4 arrays the warp cores keeps your power level between 3 and 4 points higher than without it. Would figure on an 8 array setup would see about 7 points.

Testing was done with all other resistances removed, such as the cutting beam, no over capping and leech removed as well for accuracy.

Did you notice your residual power fluctuate a lot? Because I saw a 105 power level drop to low 30s - low 50s when firing 8 mk ix white phaser beams without the core and still saw similar numbers with the core equipped. Nothing else was equipped except non-console mk ix white gear. I had all my skill points resetted too.

I did see a lot more 40s with the core equipped but I wasnt sure if it was my ui lag or actual consistent weapon drain reduction. Was this similar to your experience?

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work on weapon drain, but with recent trends who knows.

I cant get in right now, working, but you might try a single beam array, find something you can fight with no drains, but isn't a threat, make sure you don't have any drain res doffs or sets in, and then plunk away, once you have a feel for how much power it takes, and you can set the UI to numbers if you haven't, you can toggle all your weapons, kill the target, put the core in, then find something else to plunk, and see if there appears to be a difference.

One array will eliminate the possible variation your seeing with multiples pulling power all at once. should be easy enough to toggle one to continue to fire and leave the others off.

There was allot of fluctuations, I measured by the lowest number it would hit after sustained firing.

Tested it and it does indeed reduce the drain as it implies.
