Noob question about Fleet names

What characters are allowed in Fleet names? It seems that a hyphen is only allowed if it is next to a letter, like so: -United
However, I wanted to have a fleet name structured thus, "Name1 - Name2", with the two parts of the fleet name separated by a spaced hyphen. But the computer is not letting me do that.
So, what characters are and are not allowed in a fleet name?
