Guramba Siege destroyer

This is more for the developers or admins...for the cost of this ship what exactly are you getting? The various write ups mention a lance and the a siphon but there is nothing there. This is a football Tee with no football. Your write up is vague and there is no detailed break down to avoid any misconceptions since apparently you have removed all of the ships consoles but not the price. What gives?

The Guramba's Javelin attack is not a console, it is a built-in ability. Same with its siege mode (which you have to be in, in order to use the attack). The power siphon is draining from enemy weapons and diverting it to the Javelin, 'charging' it up. I don't know how much the drain is, but I don't think it's a lot.

The Javelin is useful in PvE, especially if you run a disruptor weapon setup with the tactical consoles for it. Those consoles will boost the damage of the Javelin, because it's always firing disruptor energy no matter what your other weapons are. It's less useful in PvP because siege mode really wrecks your turnrate and engine power levels (-50% turnrate and -10 to engine power, resulting in overall slower speed and much lower turnrate).

Outside of Siege mode (which is, again, where all these special abilities kick in), the Guramba is a decent T5 C-store destroyer that's in need of a Fleet variant to keep up with the power creep. A little low on the shields, but an overall solid ship.

And yeah, Cryptic's a little vague on the in-game details at times. The best way to describe the Javelin is 'a built-in Beam Overload 2 or 3 attack', but with more power drain (some of which comes back by the time you're finished exiting Siege mode automatically after firing, which takes 2-3 seconds). In all honesty, you'd be better off buying the Guramba on the basis of its stat merits rather than buying it for the Javelin attack.

The 'Javelin' is an innate ability and not a console as timezarg already said.
What you need to do is open your space abilities panel and find the special ability there, then drag it in your UI - and voila, you have the 'Javelin' now! :)
The siege mode is part of the same innate mechanism, the ship needs to enter siege mode in order to 'fuel' the 'Javelin'.

This ship is not over priced in my eyes, tough little ship, cool looking, versatile and the javelin is very nice in pve, just give it a chance. Also a fleet version is on the near horizon ( geko said on a priority one podcast ).

    3 years ago :p

It's a great ship sadly lacking in end game pvp nowadays but if set up right can still hold its own

i'd say this ship is THE best non fleet/lockbox/3pack ship you can buy...

    boff setup is very preferable.

the javeline is THE most destructive single taget power you can get...if the target is nicely debuffed and your tac captain is in "alpha strike" mode a 200k crit is well within your reach.

    here is a little video

i fear that when they implement a fleet version the javeline will become a console, so practically the fleet version wouldn't give an additional console slot.
this ship was my first c-store purchase and the best one i ever made^^

If they keep the Javelin built-in, all the ship would really need to be new and innovative would be a boost to the shield modifier (from .9 to maybe .95 or .99) and a 5th tactical console. People would buy that in droves, because it would be a 5 tac console escort for the KDF and it would be a little tankier than the C-store version. The boff layout is perfect for an escort/destroyer of its type, and I personally view the Javelin as icing on the cake rather than the main course. It's difficult to use it in PvP because it's hard to line up the targets long enough to use it, especially if you're fighting escorts. It can definitely pack a wicked punch, especially if it crits, but you're paying quite a bit to use it. Again, it's a 50% reduction to turnrate by being in siege mode, along with the -10 to engine power resulting in slightly slower speed and more reduction to turnrate. It's really intended to be used while not moving much. . .i.e. shooting at stationary PvE targets or at the very least slow ones (dreadnoughts, battleships, carriers, etc). Sitting still in PvP in a Guramba is suicide, you're losing all your speed tanking in a ship with only a .9 shield modifier and a boff layout that only allows for escort-styled ability tanking.

yes, definately not the best choice for PVP, but all you can wish for in PVE.
