TL;DR, blame the Vesta for giving us double necks, and now logically all Starfleet ships should have double necks to be faster.

Honestly, the need for double neck for slipstream has always sounded like pure BS to me.
Also, not only the Vesta doesn't have a double neck, it doesn't have a neck at all! :P I think the Odyssey is the one you were thinking about.

lol :D It's not, you're looking at the fleet version in that snapshot.

Also, is that a double neck setup I see? Dang, I hate that, what's up with Cryptic and double necks?
Well at least it has 700 crew, which would (hopefully) put it in the size range of a Vesta/Sovereign and not be ridiculously oversized like everything that came since LoR was released.

    Brandon mentioned Excelsior-class size range.

Well that's good to know. It's nice to see Starfleet at least keeps their ships normal sized, I mean even the Odyssey was overstretching it a bit and I was afraid that this might end up in the size range of the D'D or Scimitar.
Excelsior you say? That's actually a nice size for the ship, I like that.

About the Avenger class' design, I will say this: If you were (in-continuity) designing a military-focused vessel and had to choose between how it looks and how it performs, looks would have a hard time outgunning your enemies. This is a military design.

In regards to the size, I find that hard to believe as the window size and design of the ship looks more like it's about the size of the Star Cruiser variant I believe it is. Although the window size was hard to make out due to the picture quality before.

As for the ship itself, I'd love to get my hands on one and see just what I can do with it.

I'm glad its about the Excelsior size. We don't need all big cruisers. I'm looking forward to it. Since I don't have a 2409 era cruiser to use. So this will be a start. I'm glad a lot of players already don't like it. As the area won't be flooded with them.

More HP and Shields than the Fleet Vor'Cha, plus 5 fore weapon slots...

Heck, it has more shields than any other Federation cruiser in the game, it would seem. It's like a more maneuverable and tactical-oriented Odyssey.

*sigh* Well, at least it won't be getting a hangar next week...

Depending on how powerful they are, it may not need it with those drones it can launch.

Drones? The Avenger can launch predator drones? Or something from Stark's arsenal?

Just took a look at it on Redshirt, and I have to say, I'm intrigued by its special console. Won't spoil anything, however.

Also, it's really only that big? I was sure that it was going to be a Star Cruiser special refit. I'm surprised to see that it doesn't appear to be that big.

The drones will just be a junk console. They'll die in seconds and have a 3 min cooldown.

I don't know... Feels kinda meh, assuming that you have to fire it at something, which means 10km radius at max, less if you're in 5km cannon range.

Unless the VATA actually explodes on impact of the primary target.

A federation battle-cruiser is the very definition of an oxymoron.

You mean like the Defiant which was 'classed' as a patrol cruiser, but bottom line is as one of its designers (Sisko) stated a warship.

so when a war starts (Borg War since Best of Both Worlds), the federation will design, build and deploy warships. I assume that's why more Defiants entered service with the Dominion War, such as the Valiant flown by Red Squad.

It is no oxymoron. Functional diplomacy was all about being all smiles while carrying a huge gun.

Though I am reminded of this adage:

Peace is a lie. There is only passion. Through passion, we gain strength. Through strength, we gain victory. Through victory, our chains will be broken!

Does that mean that a ship drops out of warp when entering 'slipstream'? Or that some anti-Star Trek twit at Cryptic has no understanding of the concept of a warp bubble?

From what I gather, double-neck designs were justified in a expanded universe novel...

I haven't seen a picture that shows a hole in the neck, but I can't trust Cryptic not to make the same bone-headed mistake twice.

From looking at Redshirt, it has what is indistinguishable (in the store) between a small hole in the neck and a continuation of the black stripes.

I hope those aren't final stats. :/ They might as well just remove every other fleet level cruiser in the game becuase that ship out classes them in nearly every respect.

    Fleet Heavy Cruiser Retrofit
    1.1 shield mod
8 turn <- turn rate should be 10 due to lowest hull
    39,600 hull

    Fleet Star Cruiser
    1.1 shield mod
    7 turn
42,900 hull <- increase hull slightly like 43,450 like support cruiser retrofit, increase other ships accordingly

    Fleet Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit
    1.1 shield mod
    8 turn
    42,900 hull

    Fleet Support Cruiser Retrofit
    1.1 shield mod
    7 turn
    43,450 hull

    Fleet Exploration Cruiser Retrofit
    1.1 shield mod
    6 turn
    44,000 hull

    Fleet Assault Cruiser Refit
    1.1 shield mod
    7 turn
42,900 hull<- increase hull slightly like 43,450 due to its lower turn rate to the excelsior, increase other ships accordingly

    3-pack Odyssey Cruiser
    1.15 shield mod
    6 turn
    42,000 hull <- increase to 43,000 hull

    Fleet battle cruiser
1.21 shield mod <- lower shield mod to 1.1
    9 turn
    41,250

after those changes i believe the ships will be more balanced.

The avenger class has nice stats, but God that thing is painful to look at, its like a regent class ship and something out of minecraft had a child that grew up into a horrible mishaped sci-fi train wreck.

Seriously new ship always better, old ship doesnt get changed. Look at the Galaxy. Look at ANY ship. Deal Broseph.

This ship os new, and its ugly as sin. And im gonna LOVE IT.

This ship is new, compact, tough, and just blocky enough from some angles and not blocky at all from other angles.

Good stats, good guns, rightfully useless console. The fact that its much stronger than other cruisers is not because its OP but rather the other ships are just so far behind.

The Avenger is balanced against what the other factions have. Definite buy.
