Fed Sci/Sci torp boat, viable or not?

Science ship/science career/ torpedo boat, viable or don't waste your time?

seems like it could be fun to use tyken's rifts and tachyon beams to suck shields and disable systems then finish them off with a torpedo spread/ high yield plasma or tri-cobalt torp. anyone tried a build similar to this lately? if so, how'd it work and was it a fun build? I know it'll likely be next to useless in PvE stuff

Tykens, it seems, will be getting a huge boost sometime before the end of the year, so it just might work. Tachyon beam kinda sucks for stripping shields. What it is good for, however, is keeping a shield facing down so your torpedoes can get to the hull. Also, most often, in stfs people are running all energy energy weapons, so shields don't stay up much anyways.

I honestly don't see why not. You'll just have to be picky enough on your Torpedo goal (High-Yield or Spread, maybe mix?) and have enough Tac stations to pull it off. The majority of it is relying on being able to have 2+ Torpedoes in one direction, Projectile DOFFs for recharge and just enough mobility to aim where you need to.

Not many Science ships left on the roster, with not many having that much in viable Tac Stations or Consoles, unfortunately. But it can be done I suppose.

Max Flow Capacitors and Tachyon Beam 3 with Full Aux worked on all solo NPCs.

    Used the Intrepid Retrofit.

Would hammer a single ship easily, not so good on groups. Fantastic on the Crystal Enitiy since Torpedoes always do full damage, like when it absorbs energy attacks.

If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why.

The Long range Science? It only has a Lt Tac station.

Reconnaissance or Research for the freebies
Any of the Vesta would be ideal, in almost any configuration of either Universal as Tac.
Or for Fleet ships: Reconnaissance, Research, Fleet Science would work for the Tac stations.

Without the at least 3 spots for Tac Team and two for Torpedoes you won't get as good a punch compared to it. You aren't running an Aux2Bat recharge build on a Sci ship, and it'll nearly double the damage output doable on it with two Torpedo skills.

A Sci torp boat works well in conjunction with exotic damage. The reason you want a torp boat in the first place is so you can put all energy in aux and consider the torpedos to be secondary damage. So a torp boat with TBR or GW works well for me on a Nebula :) For soloing you may consider transphasic builds or add one or two tractor beams with shield drain officers in there.

At a max of 4 tac slots (plus having been recently given out for an extra low cost of free), the Nebula will fulfil the duties of a torpboat and still have enough sci to do ****.

Also, if you chose rom plas weapons, you get 6 console slots worth of damage and still have a disruptor proc on the target.

I run a sci oriented torp boat (Temporal Sci) with no tac consoles and just two tac skills (one boff), TT1 and Spread2. Before you all call me nuts, it works. Specced heavily into kinetic and exotic damage and using lots of PartGen and Crit Chance/severity boosting consoles in conjunction with crowd control. I'm not a DPS monster by any means, but with everything fresh (no cooldowns) and if i get the crits, I find that most stuff blows up quick enough.
    "So my fun is wrong?"

No. Your fun makes everyone else's fun wrong by default.

This was a PVE ship so no Tac Team and I was using the armour console that allows me to still shoot torpedoes.

tips for skill points allocation besides the obvious? I'm a complete noob when it comes to science ships so this would be the first one I've ever touched, being a specialized torpedo boat makes proper skill point investment more important. anyone have a link to a skill planner. I'm sure you guys who have been playing since day 1 (or near that) can whip this out in under 5 minutes. Thanks for all your help so far.
