desktop flickers through game/alt tab causes crash or hang

Having an issue where when I'm in game every now and then the desktop flickers through the game, I updated the graphics drivers, adjusted many settings but it still happens.

I have another issue where if the launcher loads up the game when the computer does something else like I get an IM pop up it will hang and crash, or if I get into the game and need to alt tab to another program for example looking up the STO wiki the game will hang and crash :mad: I should be able to multitask on my computer without it hanging and having to reload the game every single time I tab out :mad:

I believe these two issues could be related as while I was doing Crystaline Entity a few days ago the desktop flickered through the game causing the game to briefly hang, then it went back to normal, then the game froze followed by a blue screen, the blue screen code contained an ATI SYS file, I updated the GFX Drivers, Problem still exists

I thought it might have been windows but playing my account on a different computer with the same operating system (windows 7) it doesn't have this issue so it's something to do with this computer.

Mainboard is Gigabyte 990FXA-D3
Graphics card is ATI Sapphire HD 7770.
CPU is AMD 8 core FX8150 Black edition.
RAM is Corsair Vengence LP 16GB DDR3.

disabling Aero didn't work as predicted I went back to the game after writing this post and unsurprisingly hang and crash, error info below.

It could be that you have a third party application interupting the game. Please make sure you run an anti virus scan with malwarebytes.org and microsoft security essentails. Shutdown any other programs that may be running in the backround and see if that improves your situation. It will help you pinpoint a more permanent solution.

Also changing resolutions in-game in advanced options might help, selecting window mode full screen could be a solution to this.
