i obviously understand that, like a carrot, dangling the good ships in front of players faces is a good way for players to buy zen... but is it really a good tactic?

i spent $130 on the romulan survivor duty packs and did i get a jem'hadar attack ship? of course not.

i question the mentality of these MMO companies.. do you really think that i am going to have as much fun playing a game, loyalty to said game, or care to support the game if the goals i have in the game are unobtainable?

again, keep in mind i know the attack ship is like the most valuable and sot after, but really.. do you really think the entire game would be attack ships flying around?.. not everyone likes it as much i as i do.

all i know is i feel like i wasted $130, which i did, and i have zero interest in buying more zen and also am starting to question the point of playing at all considering i won't be playing the game i want to play yet am playing the limited game dictated to me by a company and companies care more about their dollars then my fun.. yes, a rip off.

so am i too drop a new cars worth of funds for no better a chance at a ship? maybe less over a greater period of time and maybe, just maybe get the ship many, many years from now when i probably will have moved onto something else.. like a family.

will i buy more zen? nope
will i continue to play... well ya, as long as i'm having fun... but not anywhere near the fun i would be if i was playing the game i want to and not the one handed to me.

i'm starting to have a problem with the MMO micro transaction business model.. companies are too greedy... especially those outside of the area the game players are playing from.

china does have the same government and human rights standards or animal cruility compassion i do, so why would i play a video game they choose i should play.

yes, perfect world is chinese... that's not a racist remark btw.. it's a cultural different and outlook on life incompatibility issue.

i have only one negative feedback issue for this STO game.. and that is you'll never fly the ship you want to without getting bent over a barrel either financially or from the mass amounts of play time in areas that are grind, grind, grind.

so not only have they lost further revenue from me, but i'm going to be hesitant to recomend to others, and if i do, i'll recomend they save their money... i'll over look the prices of stuff too.. $20 for a ship? is it a real ship? no? then that's a waste of money for a skin and variance on function and features... oh and a set from the lobi store? lol.. way too much even at 10 lobi a pack.. you really think i'm going to "earn" them at 1-4 lobi a pack?

roflmao...

it's a video game people.. not a sweet shop owned by a totalitarian regime.

Bro, you decided to play the lottery and you lost. Its a gamble...shouldve realized that going in.

If you put all that...what 13,000 zen, Into rom survivor packs AND sold them on the exchange, you would've got your ships and a hefty sum of ec as well.

Should try posting on the forums to see to get some advice. Sto has a great community, I myself would've told ya the "smart" way of doing it

sure.. there's the "pay for premium content" aspect as a term coined for buying your way to the top but i personally don't think than a novice to any game should have any advatage over others simply becuse they can buy the best. i don't think my ship or equips are bad even though stock and not premium although, over time i would learn how to set my skills properly, what equips to use and my stock should equl if not trum the premium becaused it's set up better (build).

i already have to deal with heartless, greedy, gold diggers with women.. do you really think i'm at all interested in the same scumbagery in my leasure escapeism?

i would ask what is wrong with the world today, but i already know the answer, and those who reply in defense of greedy tactics are the enablers, or as i can them, sheeple.

Right...companies need to make money, it's not a hard concept to understand

Cryptic allows you to get any in game item, besides "fluff" from conventions , through in game means.

Dilithium to zen...does it take awhile to grins up to that point? Yes,

To buy zen with real money is to short cut in game means.

just because I understand that companies are businesses that need to make money, don't mean I'm defending them

ya that's right buddy.. sell the packs and loose out on the duty officers and lobi...

why not just sell the damn ship??!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

it's a stupid, player unfriendly, eliteist, system that i have ZERO respect for... doesn't make it a bad game, just a shighty company.

Well, I thought you wanted the JHAS? The above way would've been a sure thig with enough left over to buy the doffs you wanted and perhaps keys for lobi....

    1. The pack is designed for the doffs - the JHAS and lobi were a special extra promo.
    2. You chose to spend that money and open the packs. Don't blame the people selling it to you when it has Caveat Emptor written all over it.
    3. If you do quit the game over this... can I have your stuff? (come on, you know I just had to throw this in)
    4. End of story.
I ask nothing but that you remember me.

I understand that you're frustrated, but really, what you've done is effectively participating in a lucky draw promo for a product, and spending more on it to win the grand prize than it is worth.

It's like there's a lucky draw promo on milk! 1 entry per carton! Grand prize is a brand new car worth $50000!

Then, you spend $60000 on milk trying to win the car, when you could have spent the money just buying the car. Frustrating, but that's essentially what people are doing when they open doff packs just for the chance to win the ship.

You gambled, you lost..end of story.

This is how they make money - its not a scam (well...it is somwhat if they won't tell us the probability of getting x item - hell, even lotteries do that), its gambling on your part following the fatal flaw of most gamblers - they only look at the carrot, not the stick

If you felt you wasted that money, or worse used money you needed elsewhere... I have zero sympathy for you

    Wrong.
Not one reply that agrees with you.

The chance boxes are here to stay.
the lockbox ships are easy to aquire if you approach the purchase and exchange of things properly.

    As someone above stated.
    $130 is 13,000 zen.

Had you taken the time to come to the forums or heck ask around in game, and said , how can I turn this zen into a jem bug, you would have received the advice to buy the packs, sell them on the exchange and turn the ec you gained there into your Bug.

instead you chose to play the lottery.
    and you lost.
    It happens.

But you chose to do it the way you did, despite the information on how to acheive your goals being out here.

By the way, yes you would have missed out on some RANDOM doffs, but you would have had enough EC to buy specific doffs that apply to your build off the exchange.

So, terribly sorry I dont agree with you, but that doesn't mean anyone above or beyond this post who disagrees with you is non intelligent. Your decision to play the lottery when you could have bought the thing you wanted, now that might be definable as ...

    To the OP

    And ALL like the OP

    buy items with your Zen

Sell items on the exchange for a GREAT profit like keys and the officer packs which sold for 7 million each

gather dilithium over many characters and sell when the price is right for making Zen

Wait until the ship you want is on the market and is currently being open with keys and boxes its price then will be as low as it will ever be on the exchange

Buy your lock box ship with EC

it takes time strategy and a plan

you also need these same skills in pvp correct ?
    Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
    Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng

JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse

Are you some great intellect whose genius can't be comprehended by us? No...you fail to see reason and understand you were gambling and lost. You spent much more money than the ship is valued (in game value of course) for and now your upset.

If you can't listen to reason, just stop posting. You are the one who is unable to comprehend the scenario at hand.

You gambled, you lost and now you refuse to play the slots, but you will still enjoy the floor show. Move on

are you kidding? Everyone is telling you that if what you wanted was the JHAS then you should have just bought it off of the exchange. You want the community to join in on your pitty party and insult them when they don't.

If you had $130 to spend you had more that enough Zen to convert to 320,000,000 EC that the ships were selling for and just buy the ship.
Say you had Zero EC, it would have cost 12925 Zen to convert to Romulan packs and sell on exchange. I assume you had a few million EC like most players do already and the bonus Zen you get from buying large amounts of Zen at one time, it would have only been $120 starting from Zero. Depending on what you started with and with 2 or 3 days farming you could have got the ship for around $70 or $80.

Smart players know that the Dil and Key and Doff packs prices were going to explode and used that to clean up. Next time they have a new lockbox or JHAS promo play it smart and get it like everyone has tried to tell you.

I bought three packs on the first day of this promotion for my Romulan toon because I wanted to clean out some of my Non-Romulan DOffs...

As I've said before in a couple of threads, I got the Suliban Cell ship in the first pack and the JHS in the third.

(I just wish I could have that kinda luck with the NYS lottery)

Anyway, I understand yer frustration OP, I've had the very same sentiments in trying for other hard to get items that I desired from this game.

I just keep reminding myself that it is just a game and try to control my desires so that my spending habits don't break my bank account.

After reading your OP, I was on the edge of taking pity on you. Not because you wasted 130 dollars on Doff packs, mind you, that's completely your bad (and Cryptic thanks you for it!). But I do realize the frustration, and I think a lot of us have been there at some point much earlier in our STO playing experience, so I had the mind to toss you a bugship from the Starfleet Dental vault, at no cost to you, to show a little compassion. We currently have about 23 or so of them sitting around.

However, this last post convinced me to change my mind. Good luck being 130 in the hole with nothing to show for it.

but of course; it had to be said

that being said, i certainly wouldn't mind getting one for free (and neither would anyone else, i imagine), as i could then use my funds for more important things...like gearing said ship

If you are indeed giving one away or would have, it would be much better to sponsor a cool community event of some kind. I bet Branflakes can think of something epic that would be fitting for a JHAS grand price give away.
