Happy Birthday Star Trek! On this day in 1966 was The Original Series first television broadcast episode, "The Man Trap". Also on this day in 1973 Star Trek returned to the airwaves with "Beyond the Farthest Star", the premiere of the award-winning cartoon.

    I was there...

A whole new universe opened up for this eight year old that Thursday evening.

Navy ships took a back seat from the moment I saw the ENTERPRISE.

This was also the first show I was allowed to stay up late on a school night for...

    It started at 8:30pm.

The day is almost over on the West Coast, and nobody has yet pointed out that the 8th of September 1966 was the debut of the series which started it all. On this date in 1966, NBC television network broadcast the first ever episode of Star Trek.

Happy 47th Anniversary, Star Trek Classic!

    Edit:
We should have an in-game event to celebrate this auspicious occasion.

There's nothing very significant about a 47th birthday. It isn't a milestone. I'm sure a big deal will be made about the 50th.

10 Forward is for anything off-topic, but I would have thought Star Trek would be on topic, this is a Star Trek game after all

Would you open a Voyager thread in the Next Generation section?

Now if the OP said we should have an in game event for the anniversary then it's game related and belongs here.

Exactly. It's the doctors 50th. And he still has an ongoing series airing, so it's still out there in the minds of the public (without needing a reboot may I add. Yep, the current Doctor is still the exact same guy who had those adventures all those years ago in 63).

Star Trek is currently just on films. And it's the 47th. In 3 years time, it's going to be aaaaalllll about the Trek.
