So I've finally acquired my Fleet Nova and I've been gearing it up. So far I've liked the results but I know there's room for improvement.

    U.S.S Hornet - Fleet Nova

    [...]

Yeah, I need better doffs. I'm also working on getting my Nukara rep up so I can get the console and the refracting beam bank. So far the build works fine, but any suggestions would be nice.

Also, if anyone has a list of doffs I can buy that I can use to reliably crit the B'tran Cluster repeatable mission, I'd be grateful.

Slowly and surely, you'll get there by upgrading your equipment. :) At its apex, the Flow Capacitor skill can reach about 300 while having a well balanced ship that is not just a one trick pony. The drain build is excellent for PvE as it turns most NPC mobs into kittens.

For B'Tran Cluster, I took this screenshot for you :

    How to crit B'Tran Cluster

You need on purple Advisor - Malkadt. He used to be cheap, around 500K but not anymore. Otherwise, you need to find another Advisor or Diplomat that has at least 2 of the 4 crit criteria. Check out Lt. Ferra's personnel store at Starfleet Academy, some of the pruple doff there can be purchased with dilithium and I believe one of the diplomats has at least 2 of the 4 critical criteria.

After that you need 4 purple doffs with at least 2 of the 4 critical criteria. The cheapest tend to be Flight Deck Officers and many of them fit the criteria.

I have however never seen any doffs that has 3 or more critical criteria, so your crit chance should max out at 33%, which is still fairly decent and probable. If you do B'Tran every 24 hours or so, you should collect 3 purple Technicians within 10 days.

Thanks for the advice! I've already acquired two of the doffs in that screenshot, and the Purple Vorta doff you get from that featured series works well too. One last question. Until you can get the MACO shield, what type of shield (resilient/regen/covariant) shield do you recommend in the meantime?

A little word of caution for that Nova build - the duration of Energy Siphon depends on Aux power. So don't use Siphon right after AtB!

My preference has always been Covariant shield for Science vessels because Federation Fleet Science ships have the highest shield modifier of any category of vessels, so benefit greatly from the high capacity of Covariant shields. Further to that, your ship has 2 shield heals which can decently regenerate weakened shields unlike say an Escort which has almost no shield heal, and therefore, has to rely on shield's natural regeneration more. Because of your shield heals, there is not much of an advantage for you to go for Regenerative shields. Science vessels also have less hull than other categories, making them harder to hull tank. As such, Resilient shields that may work for Cruisers are not as good on a Science vessel with only 2/3 of the cruiser's hull.

Here is an announcement from a Cryptic developer in Systems design :

    Tyken's Rift is fixed

You may be wondering why a drain build thread made no mention of Tyken's Rift at all. That's because it has been broken for a very long time - in fact it does nothing at all. That's why Tyken's Rift has completely disappeared from the game. In conjunction with Gravity Well II and III being fixed, Tyken's Rift is now fixed as well.

This means the Maximum Drain Build can benefit from an additional source of power drain via Tyken's Rift III. If the latter turns out to be as powerful as the Dev claims it to be, at FC = 300, in conjunction with other drain & hold skills, this will greatly enhance the build's overall effectiveness.

The question is we don't know exactly how that will translate into actual power drain. However, if the current tooltip power is any indication, this could potentially used in conjunction with Energy Siphon, Plasmonic Leech and Subsystem Targeting to shut down an enemy.

Here is the result of the B'Tran Cluster Colonization Mission that I started yesterday to show you how easy it is :

B'Tran Cluster Colonization - Critical Success

It's very easy to farm these purple Technicians. Then again, having a whole army of top notch purple doff is my speciality so your experience may vary.

This Tread is actual very useful for me. I always loved sience since i joined STO, but my friends always told me a sience can just be useful in an escort. I tried different things already (Torpedo-Intrepid with shild draining skills) and then i came to the idea using a drain build when i accidently skilled a energie siphon instead of a tachion beam. Now i equipped my sci vesta (until now i used tac vesta for stf, as it was the only sciship i delt any dmg with) how i thought it may work, but now that i found this tread i wanted to ask what i can do better.
As i do not know how to post screenshots (srysly i cant find it, sorry its my first post in the forum) i will write what i have:
Weapon front: 2xVesta Aux Cannon 1+Dbb(phaser crtdx2), i want to change 1 Vesta cannon for a Romulan Hyper Plasma Torp)
Weapon rear: 2xPhaser Turret+1Time Phaser array
    Deflektor: Tachion (Mk XII Prtg/FlwC/Ins)
Array: Dont know what to take
    Warpcore Overcharged Mk XI (Eps/A->S/Trans)
Engine: Dont know what to take
Tech console: Universal Aceton Assimilator; Universal Sabotage Probe
Sci Console: 2x Flowcapacitator Mk XI purple; 3x the same in blue
Tac Console: the vesta phaser beam console, 1x Phaserrelais, 1x Univesal plasmonic leech
    Hangar: Dont know

    My BO layout:
ltCom Sci: ST I;JamSensors II;ES II
    Ensg Sci:TB I
COM Sci:HE I; Tykens I;ES II; Tykens III
Lt Tech: EptS I; Aux2Sif II
Lt Tak: TT I; BO II (wanna change to HY2 when i get the torpedo)

For Doffs im using 1xprojektile(purple); 2time those target subsystem Doffs; 1x Deflektor DOff and 1 GRavi doff for tykens.

For Strategie i thought to use Target weapons/shilds+Sabotage Probe+ES II+ Tykens III+ TBI combined with attacks for the plasmonic leech to bring all their subsystems offline then use Sensor Scan+TT I combined with BOII/HYII and the vesta-phaserbeam to bring them down before they can recharge anything. If they would use something to defend them i would subnuke, and if they shoot back before their weapons are offline i can jam sensor them to prevent that.

So yea, hope that was not too much wall of text, i would be very pleased if you could give me some replys how bad/good/stupid my setup is.

PS:Im not an STO pro, until now i just played PvE and 1v1s vs a few friends that also play STO, but i would also like to play pvp / the hive etc, but i dont want to make my team loose because im too bad so I didn`t tried until now

PPS: Sorry for my bad english, im not a native speaker
