I've noticed there are rarely any PvE matches nowadays where you feel truely... Helpless. Helplessness like just not being able to be accomplish some sort of task, even with all your willpower being put into it, and it still being not enough. Also, I've noticed how when I warp into the Sol System, I am surrounded by a massive armada of ships, and it feels like a waste to have suck a large fleet and not commit it to something. So I present to you this suggestion:
Map: A very large map with "A planet of high importance to the Federation" in the upper left Corner, and a Borg Cube in the Bottom Right Corner.
Spawns: Players spawn beside the planet, and the planet would be surrounded by orbital defense platforms (Phaser and Torpedo Satellite Turrets)
Number of Players: 50+ Players of all Ranks.
Borg Cube: It is extremely powerful, even more so than the crystalline entity. If it had a rank, it would probably be level 100 or something. The Borg Cube will attempt to fly from the bottom corner of the map to to the planet at which point the mission would be lost. When the Satellite turrets start firing at the cube, you better just be about to destroy the cube, or else all is lost.
The Borg Cube would be armed with multiple Weapons, including:
High Powered Beam Arrays (Prioritizes Higher Ranked Players)
Weaker Beam Arrays (Prioritizes Lower Ranked Players)
AOE Torpedo Launchers
Tractor Beams (Causes increased damage from other weapons if you are being held)
Also, the Borg Cube would be heavily Shielded and Armored.
Also, I would say this should be a special event that happens every once in a while, respawns would be allowed, albeit very slowly, and if the mission succeeds, all participants will be heavily rewarded scaled to their rank, if you lose, all is lost.

Any Comments?
While I love the idea, 50+ is a lot.

Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.
Two big problems with this: First, limitations on both the game engine and people's computer capabilities. I myself have issues with the Crystalline Entity, enough to the point where I'm not performing as well as I normally would due to lots of lag, etc. Part of this is because there's at least 10 people all doing things at once, and then there's the CE and everything it and its shards is doing, AND the random Tholian ships that are around.
Second: This game's playerbase is NOT difficulty-friendly. Introducing especially difficult PvE scenarios always carries the risk that people will howl and moan about how 'difficult' it is because they're accustomed to just diving in and pew-pewing with minimal thought required. It happened with Defense of New Romulus, and it has happened elsewhere. Introducing a super-powerful Borg Cube (something as powerful as a Borg Cube would really be) probably would not go over well, unless it were introduced as something 'optional', like the No Win Scenario PvE queue, or the Hive Onslaught STF (which is arguably optional, as you have three other STFs to pick from).

This ^^ ... unfortunately ... DARN!

As I recall, the Battle of Sector 001 consisted of the whole fleet flying around like space-chickens with their heads chopped off till the Enterprise arrived and told them what to do.

On the contrary, Admiral Hayes led the fleet fairly well till his ship was destroyed (the Admiral apparently survived since he pops up a few times later on in VOY). They inflicted pretty severe damage, arguably setting the stage for Picard to swoop in and lead the killing blow.

Picard abused a weakness in the cube that could have most likely easily have been done even if the cube's hull was at 100%.
Well they took away the cube's science skills (they used to have things like viral matrix, I seem to recall getting subnuked by some of them during Tribble tests) and basically took out anything that involved any sort of thought.
Bugs made unplayable. Lance weapons kills randomly anywhere on the map, even in the respawn area or sitting on the queen (despite of what the tooltip says).

Sadly this also is only a mere shadow of its original self due to the forum rage that followed its introduction
What happened to it?
I hope STO get's better ...
Yeah, I'll pass on being involved in that.

Also, if he hadn't previously been all Locutus'd up.
Which is yet further proof that all starfleet captains should be fed to the collective.
The day will not save them. And we own the night.

I don't know when that started happening, it was only a couple of weeks ago I played and completed it on elite (with 2 out of 3 optionals)
