uhmm aren't you forgetting engies, when giving sci extra points for healing?

I did handi cap the Engineer dmg but I took it out, as most eng class are healers and clock well over 1 mill healing. these are not set in stone and our first month of leaderboard will be testing stage to sort these little things out...PvPBC is open to any and all ideas

How are damage numbers actually being processed, by combat log or ingame stats?

Also, is there something like kill efficiency/damage?
the stats can be pretty misleading as you can kill someone with 60k damage or 200k, the former being alot more effective.

on the other hand, people using transphasics can get tons of hull damage over a prolonged match whereas that is absolutely no indication the specific player actually ever killed something.

    Just curious.

For now we are just using the in game as we want to keep things as simple as possible, engineer's have a hard time scoring dmg points but can make up for that on heals the really hard ones to score are the sci/sci. In tests the sci and eng both got credit for kills they assisted with as long as they where in a close range(I don't know the #) so, stay together as a team like your suppose to and u will score kill points...In the future and with more testing im sure we as the community can come up with a way to refine the scoring...

Ok trying to work out the math... here are some recent results... tell me if I am adding this up correctly (only doing my own, not the team points).

    We won 15/1

    Tac Captain/Fleet Patrol Escort

    14 Kills (2 Points, 1 Per 5 kills)
    1 Death (0 Points)
    396736 Damage (1 Point, 1 Per 250K Damage)
    140853 Healing (0 Points, 1 per 250K Healing)

My match score would be 3 Points, out of 10... is that correct?

    1 last question...

I understand for a sci/sci that the damage will be less their calc looks like 1 point per 175K... but shouldnt they have a higher heal value? Instead of a 175k per point? My sci/sci routinely dows over 1 million heals.

Last question, alternatively, why not add the dmg/heal together and divide that value by 250k?

To be honest with you, a system like this - while I applaud the effort - is gameable.

As it was already stated, a Sci can easily inflate their score with Transphasic Torp Spread, and just constantly pump out a barrage of direct to hull damage that registers on the scoreboard vs. Shield damage that never gets reported.

There are also other damage score inflating skills, such as TBR or BFAW, that are going to produce high numbers but not necessarily kill anything or even contribute to a kill (it could just be used to clear spam at some point for example).

It also doesn't tell you about the proper use of some of the most important powers in the game, that largely contribute to kills but never show up on the scoreboard.

Powers like Sensor Scan or SNB for example.

Anyway, sorry to put so much criticism out there - I just don't put much faith in the actual in-game PvP scoreboard outside of it providing very general information.

And criticism aside, I wish you guys luck with this endeavor.

You know Ulti... I don't necessarily disagree with you. The stated suggestion isn't perfect, and I am sure there are ways to game the totals, contributions to the team that are not counted... but (in my opinion), its a start.

This is not directed at you specifically, I know you are a fan of boosting PvP, and were the one who really talked me into playing it more often... until i was hooked.

I don't know about the rest here, and I can't speak to the motivations of BC, I want these types of things to succeed/increase... Tournaments, Leauges, Leaderboards, Bootcamp, not because I think they are the end all solution, but because it can drive up the overall player population that participates in PvP. That is the number that matters... the % of players who play PvP. For any meaningful discussion with Cryptic regarding PvP... that is where it is always going to start.

If that number increases, then the resources devoted to it MAY increase... I do say may, mainly because I can't speak to Cryptic's goals/plans. I understand that people are a little jaded because there were supposed to the PvP Seasons (plans changed) Due in large part to the afore mentioned player population % active in PvP (I believe), and yes... profitability is also a factor.

Not only do these things have the potential (not promise) of bringing more people to PvP, they also (in some way) give Cryptic a foundation or at the bare minimum something to look at as a guideline on how to (or how not to) make any eventual PvP enhancement work.

Yes, there are definitely differences of opinions among the PvP community (sometimes radically different opinions) on what is and is not OP, what should and should not be allowed in a tournament, what should be nerfed, and what should be buffed... but in the end, and that actually is healthy... Even if Cryptic never enhances PvP... we can still have some fun... we can still have tourneys, and leaderboards, leagues...

Theoretically one could write some kind of log parser that uses the log data to detect pvp matches and then automatically uploads some raw data (raw/net damage/healing etc.) and weighted scores (e.g. higher ratings for the final 40k damage before a kill, reduced ratings for bleedthrough that doesn't lead to a kill or forces healing; many things are possible and one would have to experiment quite a bit to find a meaningful scoring mechanism) to a website which then provides a leaderboard.
If the same match gets uploaded by multiple persons, one could give it a higher score since that probably means that more pvp-oriented players where in that match. The possibilities are endless. In a very advanced version one could could even try to reconstruct matches from partial data (since one loses data if one dies and respawns outside of the logging range).

I'm not sure how big the reports could reasonably get before one runs into trouble with bandwidth and storage, but one could even use this to datamine the population for shifts in the metagame (energy types, use of pets, certain abilities).

Theoretically you are most likely correct with the exception being that combatlog has a distance limit if I am not mistaken (combat done outside of that range is not recorded).

Ok... just looking at column 1

HO Bop - 3 points Match

    Neg'var Eng You have 5 points I come up with 4 (5 Kills = 1, 809443/250k = 3)
    Exotic T'Acvro (tac) You have 7, i come up with 6 (12 Kills = 2, 915753/250k = 3, 255854/250l = 1)

Where is my math off? Or are you allowing decimals/rounding?

Just want to make sure I can accurately score.

    Neg'var Eng You have 5 points I come up with 4 (5 Kills = 1, (242979/250k dmg) 809443/250k = 3) I think a 10k handicap is fair

    Exotic T'Acvro (tac) You have 7, i come up with 6 (12 Kills = 2, 915753/250k = 3, 255854/250l = 1) +1 for 0 death

As far as the motives of PvPBC, I think they have and always will be the continuing effort of the PvP community, to provide quality information and a neutral zone for players new and veteran to enjoy PvP and share insights and knowledge with all those seeking it. We have always only hoped to make the transition from PvE to PvP as smooth as possible. As the PvP community we are tasked with creating our own content and mini games to break the monotony of arena play. We need to reach out to the PvE community and show them the benefits that come with learning the PvP Skills. Only When our numbers grow will Cryptic start to look at how and why need to be worked on...

I really like the idea, but as has already been said there's some problems with how the scoring would work.

    So if i'm a Sci, and I do 250k Damage 250k Heals

Regardless of my K/D I get 3 points for my damage, and 3 points for my heals.

    makes 6

If I do the same with a tac I get 1 point for my Damage, and 1 point for my heals, so to equal the same amount of points I need to go 15 - 0.

This seems quite massively scewed in favor of Sci, especially when you can run double torp spread and transphasics for big damage stats.

Would it not be better to have 250k Dmg be 1 point and 250k Heals be 1 point regardless of your class.

    Greetings Community

Sorry for my late response, work has been wicked busy.

Now on to business, Hollaback it's not all science just sci/sci builds like say VM3,CPB2,PH2,TB1, or a PSW3,TSS3,HE2,ST1 essential builds to any team but do to high buff/debuff value and reasonably low dmg/heals some type of handicap needs to be put in place, to give those type of builds a equal share in the points. We are only in the test phase and we could sure use your help on the project...send me a in game mail@LIVIN so we can bounce some ideas around...

Thank you Folken, the support of the White Umbrella is greatly appreciated...8D

We will be starting the first test match's this weekend and running all weekend, we would like to get teams running and scoring asap so we can start seeing the data<~with more refined scoring methods as a result.

If any of you are serious about this send me in game mail@LIVIN I would like to collect peoples time zones and play times so we can schedule match's more efficiently.

I just want to thank you all for showing support and remind you to spread the word to your friends and fleet mates...8D
