Why are Gorn Weaker Than Klingons and People That Have the Physical Damage Buff?

blagormblagorm Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I noticed that Gorn get a boost in about 17.5% Melle Strength alone, while the Klingons by thier traits (Warrior, not including if they can use Physical Strength) both adds 20% Melle Strength (Warrior 22.5%) . Just saying... Gorn are suppose to be more "strong" in melle.... not weaker... especially against cats (As so, Thats of the Physical Strength Trait Comment) Just try to go by canon in all of this... Gorn are typically strong... and to have cats and Klignons who are stronger, it is not going "canon" so to say.

Gorns have less strenght because they handle eggs and to much power could crack them...they are gentle creatures

Gorn don't take space steroids, cats and Klingons do :)

Say no to space performance enhancing additives, kids!

It is an old system from the original D&D days. Damage represents not only strength, but being able to land the shot at the right place. Gorn are just too slow to do that well. At least if you use the TOS battle as a model.

By canon, Gorn can move very fast, but only use it in emergencies when they have to. The Gorn was slow in TOS because the wearer wobbled in the tight, rubbery costume. Speed is of no factor.

In the old Trait system, Klingons had the Warrior trait built in (+15% physical damage) and had access to Physical Strength (another +15%) for 30% bonus physical damage total, compared to 17.5% for Gorn. Ferasans could get 20% total (15% from Physical Strength and 5% from built-in Predatory Instincts.) Orions and Nausicaans both had access to Physical Strength as well.

In the new system, the Gorn bonus applies only to melee damage, not physical (which also affects things like grenades, mortars, mines, and sonic pulse.) Klingons have been toned down a bit - they no longer have access to physical strength but their new species trait gives them +22.8% physical damage. Physical Strength itself has received a big boost, from 15% to 20% phys damage buff, benefiting Ferasans and Orions. Nausicaans have access to a copy of the old version so they still have only 15% phys damage buff. Ferasan's built in trait now adds an extra 7.5% to melee, giving them 27.% total.

It seems unfair to us Gorn, but it may be that way just to balance the damage resistance buff and knockback chance we also get, as well as all the traits we can access that other KDF races can't, like Bite. :D

Personally I don't feel like it's that big of a handicap. I've entered several ground PvP boxing matches (no weapons, shields or armor) and even without using Bite I perform favorably to Ferasans and Klingons. (Might have something to do with a few other traits I have, my skill points, maybe a DOff or two...)

And just because we can move fast when we have to doesn't mean we're as skilled in the martial arts as the Klingons or have the flexibility and agility and lightning reflexes of the Ferasans.

I would like our melee damage bonus reverted back to physical, and I would like to be on par at least with the Orions, but I don't feel like my ground game is suffering unduly from the buffs to other races.
