I am player that generally that does not grind and like to play content over an over again. I find doing that it makes the game more work than fun. STO has a lot of ways to play so I tend to jump from one thing to another some times to STFs then doing missions then pvping.
By doing this I dont feel that I am contributing a lot to my fleet as I notice usually my fellow fleet folk play for hours and grind and grind and grind. I dont get a lot of flack for not contributing but I do feel a little guity for not contributing. I tend to be a bit stingy on donating Dilthium as that is usually the hardest curency to acumulate. There is so much to buy and the prices are high.
Here is my suggestion:
Could you set up a system that can be turned on and off to have a percentage of your dilithium intake to be automatically donated to the fleet. years ago I use to play World of ******** and when Blizzard was developing and fine tuning the guild system the create a system that automatically donate a percentage of all gold earnings to the guild.
My habbit of game play was the same in wow and I felt that I was contributing each time. There was some back lash or concern with Blizzards option it was not optional it was mandatory so players had no choice. But if you could set something up in STO for the same thing but maybe give players more control on having this on or off that would be good. I have a feeling you guys could do this as some of the undertakings you have create like starship pet movements the Reputation systems and of course the foundry. All of these are really awesome and complicate under takings.
Not trying to flame on you or nothing, but it takes seconds for you to choose where and how much dilithium is contributed to your fleet. Not that the idea is bad, but a lot of people who don't contribute will simply have that feature off.
No offense taken at all Shadowwraith77. Your probably correct on the on off switch most people may turn it off. It is a debatable subject and I can see opposition in may view points. Bellow I put together of what I think is the benefit of the idea but also thought about the Cons. I put a list of both.
I believe my idea has potential mainly I think it would help:
- lessen the stress on smaller fleets to progress. The small number of grinders for Dilthium would get a bit of a break and progression would increase if there was a fleet dilithium tax on all earning transactions. Leadership could move the resources to specific projects
- Klingon fleets would grow. With out a doubt the Fed side gets more love. After Grinding non stop STFs or doing other Dilthium grinds on Fed side last thing I want to do is switch to Kling side and grind but I will feel good know that a small percentage of what ever Dilithium earnings will be contributed automatically.
- Fleet leaders would have better control over which projects get the most attention. Some fleets may have players dumping there Dilthium into the Embassy when they should be going else where.
- I also sometimes log in an all fleet projects a full and I cant contribute at all so in some cases you may not even get the opportunity to contribute to fleet project which means less fleet currency for the top tier good stuff.
If this go through the percentage contributed there should be fleet currency provided to the player when the percentage is removed. It could be tabulated Weekly and dumped into the players total.
There are a number of Cons
- your dealing with real currency to a degree. I mean it can be transferred to Zen which is purchasable.
- It could do a number on the in game market in ways I would not image.
- Would the Dilthium be liquid can you take it out and give it to players or is it locked as a number for only Fleet projects and can not be used for anything else. (I would say locked for fleet projects only)
There are factors that would not make this feasible or concern mainly as it is a "Real money purchasable commodity".
