Hrmm, there was a little talk about roles in another thread - which I didn't think much about at the time, but after a recent (few minutes ago) PUG vs. PUG match - I went out for a smoke and thought about it a little more.
I don't remember too many details about the match, because to be honest - I went into it half-assed after the issues I had yesterday. It was just a case of grabbing a 3rd Arena for the pair of 3/3's from yesterday.
Yeah, that was bad of me and I should have probably apologized (should not have queued until I was in a better mood, tbh).
However, we won 15-1. I wasn't the 1, btw. Not sure how they got popped, but they did. So how does a guy flying around somewhat randomly, firing randomly at folks that attacked him not die? How does that team win 15-1?
Well, I noticed as I was going around and around...that I didn't need my heals like I normally do. Usually I'm doing the wheeee thing, but I'm still having to spam my heals because wheee only goes so far. So I figured I'd toss out heals to somebody else (I was starting to feel guilty about not really being into it). Thing is, nobody really needed it. Sure, I tossed out some HE/AtS...some ST/TSS here and there - but not much, not really.
So, out of the blue the match is over (I wish they'd put the score back the way it was - it's a quick click vs. typing it out (I'm not wasting a bind on it)). To be honest, I was kind of surprised it was over. I guess I knew they were dying more than we were, but I didn't know the extent until it was over.
So I did the typical thing where I sort by damage for both sides and then promptly forgot all about the damage...more or less. Our top damage person had over 200k healing. I was the second damage guy with over 270k healing. Our "healer" had put out over 740k healing. Can't remember what the other two guys had, but I'm pretty sure that it was six digits. It booted me from the map faster than expected as well (or maybe I was just running at molasses speed in general).
But I did see that the other team - their highest healing was around 170k and they only had one other that was barely over 100k. They had one with as low as 10k.
For the most part, our damage was from the Tac in the Ha'feh (the 1 death) and my Eng in his Chel Grett. The other three were mainly healing. The other side...as I said, had almost no healing - so they never really had any chance to do as much damage as they might have been able to otherwise.
So yeah, it's been storytime with VD...ZzzZzzZzz...wtf's the point?
TLDResque stuff then, lol...
If the system were to recognize or allow players to queue as certain roles, things like that wouldn't happen, eh? If the other team had of our healing, then it might have been a more even match - might have been more fun of a match for both sides. Again, it was just PUG vs. PUG...no premades/no pugmades.
If folks were to queue DPS/Support/Heals - where they had different options based on the build of their toon/ship - it could allow the system to separate the folks into more balanced teams from the PUG queues.
This is not about requiring X DPS, Y Support, and Z Heals for a team to form from the system so folks are waiting on anything...nah, that would be horrible. This is simply a case of the system recognizing the following for example:
And when the queue pops for them because they're the next ten, it tries to make more balanced teams.
Sure, it's not going to take into account skill - overall quality of gear - etc, etc, etc...but you wouldn't end up with the DPS/pseudo DPS/3 Heals vs. 5 DPS thing that resulted in that 15-1.
What do folks think about such a system? I know a lot of folks that post here do the Premade/PUGmade thing...but still, what do you think about such a system for when you're just pugging it?
