Mail isn't broken! Well, not exactly.

Forgive me if this is old news, but here goes:

Many of us have been complaining about how the mail is broken and we lose items that have expired on the exchange because we can no longer reclaim them from the mail interface on our HUD.

Well, I just stopped into one of the physical mail locations in the game and discovered I can reclaim all my previously expired exchange items there.

So, if you put an expensive item up for sale and it expired and you want to reclaim the item just go to one of the physical mail consoles located on various home worlds and starbases in the game. You should be able to reclaim your expired items there!

Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.

Really? Because I've read at least three threads in the last week where players complained about that ... thus my reason for posting.

I have the same problem, and in addition to that, I am unable to store items in mail (despite my limit NOT being full) or even send mail to myself without attachements.

Had two 'sale has expired' mail messages. Went to physical mail station. Had two mails- one had an item attached (recovered) and deleted the mail. Other had no item, could not be deleted. Another character has had the mail icon blinking for a while but no mail at all. So, looks like it's a mix.

IF you have any other alts - be sure to check mail on all of them at least once. Once I did that the mail icon blink function returned to normal for me.

i lost items in the great mail wipe of 2013 which has another topic.

atm i'm getting 2 mails per sale on the exchange

one can be deleted whereas one seemingly can't be unless you try to and then close the dialogue box at which point it usually goes.

one is always labelled exchange while the other is labelled exchange (holodeck)

i'm also pretty sure that i'm sporadically losing returns from listings that have expired.

i check/manipulate all my mail at the mailbox and generally only use the UI one to usually see what's sold when i've been busy.

You are totally wrong! The mail system is totally haywire. It's been always necessary to get to a mail station to retrieve items since 2011 or 2012... before that time, we could retrieve items from mail without being at the mail station.

The problem that ppl have at the moment is:
1- No item attached in the exchange expired mail. Normally, when you click on the mail icon, you can view the attached items but not retrieve them.
2- All the mails before cryptic messed the system up are gone.

Those are the two problems that many longtime players like myself are having right now. I've spend a couple hundred bucks on lockboxes, and items such as ships/weapons/xp boots/universal console... well things from lockboxes since F2P... along with other stuff that I spent around 1 bil. EC acquiring. I was putting those aside for new chars... like right now. All those mails are gone.

So, if you said you didnt have any problem with your mail... maybe you havent played as long as some of us.

Imo, it's totally unrealistic to limit the mail attachments. Perhaps, cryptics forgot that they let players having as many chars as they wanted by just paying for extra slots, and also that the mail system was shared with all those chars. Hence, limiting mail attachment is illogical because the mail usage is proportional to the number of chars that a player has. In a sense, we pay for the mail service by buying extra char slot.

Some ppl argue that ppl are using the mail to hoard stuff... tbh, no ppl in their right mind would try to hoarding items in STO 'cause rare/very rare items are obtained 100% with pugs. ECs are easy to get. Therefore, hoarding is a myth. Ppl may also use mail as a temp storage for fleet lvling items such as doff and commodities, but that's normal since fleet lvling requires massive resources gathering. If cryptic didnt want ppl to store stuff for the fleet.. then they shouldnt created such fleet lvling system.

Cryptic can either fix the mail or refund players with real currency because lockboxes items arent normal items. Well, they did refund me the zens when some of my mail were lost due to lag at the beginning of F2P.

Just FYI - since the 2009 closed beta you ALWAYS needed to access an actual mailbox station to retrieve attachments -- it's always been the case in both STO and CO. You could read text only e-mail from anywhere though.

Hmm... maybe it was 'mail could be sent with attachments without being near a mail station.' Well it was kinda longtime ago.

I've been playing since closed beta (October 2009) - had some e-mails that are 2+ years old; had some mail with attachments; and I didn't loose a single e-mail. The one remaining issue that I continue to experience is the Exchange e-mails being duplicated (one with the actual item being returned attached - which can be deleted; and a second which can't be manually deleted; but disappears if the first e-mail with the attachment was deleted once the mail window is closed and reopened.
    ^^^
Again, not saying there wasn't a problem and no one lost items (many did); BUT, it appears to have nothing to do with how long you've had your STO account - and again as I had e-mail over two years old that I DIDN'T loose - I don't think the age of a given e-mail was the only cause of this particular bug/glitch or those would be missing from my e-mail.

In the end, I hope they can get it all repaired, and restore the items/attachments to those that did have them disappear from their STO e-mail.

It's still broken, some expired Exchange items come back, some don't. I don't use it as storage, just enough space for selling and a handful of other things, so I really don't have a lot in the Mail system.

I will no longer put anything of worth on the Exchange until this is fixed.

    Cryptic please fix this soon.

It is still broken for me as well I can only see every other one on return from exchange. also scroll down it like pulling teeth very slow. and it Blinks green for no reason, all mail has been look at. Also I seem to be missing mail sent to me by other players Note: attached items. So it is still Broken.
