BOFF Slotting Problem

I'm trying to purchase more BOFF's so I have two teams (one for each of my ships). The problem is when I try to assign the one I just purchased it tells me there is no room on my shuttle craft. But I have starships set to active, so I'm not sure why it is defaulting to my shuttle. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

    It means you don't any space to get another boff. The new boffs can train a skill in the old ones but you won't be able to get new active ones till you buy more boff slots.

    Thanks. I thought that might be it, but wiki said you were allowed more than what I have, but I thought maybe that was only by purchasing.

    at level 50 you get 6 boffs, if you go gold for 1 month you get 4 more.. totaling 10 free boffs.

    i wish there was a better way to have more then one ship.. but like everything else, they want you to buy slots with zen.. i think you can have a max of 56
