I just bought the standard on two alts (can get two done per event), but is the superior jetpack worth it? I'd be looking at 2k favours, and I can't help thinking I won't be able to use them after the summer event has ended...
But of course there's always next year etc..
Thoughts?
It depends on what your enjoying and what your goals are. Since i'm only interested in the ship, I dont need anything more than the basic floater as its fine for getting me through flying high each day, but if your doing more than that or if your ability to control it in flight is lacking then a more advanced model with finer controls and higher speed would be preferable.
The Superior is definately a lot more fun to fly and easier to control. I'd settle for the Advanced though. That one's sufficiently better to do away with almost 100% of all the times you float past your target.
You probably won't be able to use it after the event, or it will be limited. I would say get one on one character and try it out for yourself and leave your other characters with the basic models.
I'm wondering about next year... 2011 we got the ice race in the Winter Wonderland. 2012 we got a PvP version. I would have expected something similar for the summer event, but the different qualities of floaters would make that more than complicated. If they still do it the superiors would be mandatory next year.

Right now floaters are worth nothing, since when this event is over nothing can be done with them.
That's crazy talk. Like saying that a snowball gun is worthless.:D

If you would like to do 3 to 4 runs during the Hunt on 3 to 4 different characters within the 15 minute time frame, you need the Superior. Personally, the superior is worth the effort. I have it on 2 characters and working to get it on 2 more.
As for the standard, that's really all you need for the pearl run, and my other characters have that.
Choose which characters you are going to have grinding and give them the superior, and give the rest the standard.

No you don't. I was doing 3 runs per event comfortably with 2-3 minutes to spare. To squeeze 4 in you probably need 2. Personally I don't think it's worth it and I wish I hadn't bothered - 1000 favor sells for like 11-12 million EC.
I got the basic 50-favor ones for all three characters just to run the daily race without having to do rentals. I don't really have any problem doing anything. Would be nice not to overshoot so much, but eh. I'm in "play when I feel like it" mode now. I have my cheap floater, my one outfit, and my Horgahn on my main. If I manage to pile up 1000 more favors by the end of the event, I'll buy the super nice floater on my main. My alts may or may not get an outfit or anything.

The floaters will work on Risa after the event ends, since that zone will still be there afterwards.

Take the cash and run IMO.
Kirk's Protege.
They are talking about keeping the Risa resort around as a social map.
I'm waiting to see if floaters can be used there year round before I pick up a superior floater.
I'd go there and fly around for fun if it's an option but if they keep the map and disable the floaters, I probably wouldn't bother buying one.
