Dear Cryptic... if the lance cooldown is 30 seconds... and range is 25km... and they have 2 lances per ship... how do you expect a team of 5 to get close enough to open fire?
And no, staying near the Queen doesn't work. We get lanced anyways.
Yeah, I've found it near impossible to approach the Unimatrix ships without some form of divine intervention. Until it's fixed, avoid Hive Onslaught... unless you want to test something. I've had a theory on how to take advantage of the Unimatrix lance for counter-attacks ever since it was discovered that general energy consoles were buffing Feedback Pulse.
Get a Tactical Captain to fly an Aventine or Vesta with the three-console set, run full auxiliary power, and spec into Particle Generators. Load its Science console slots up with Particle Generators, and its Tactical slots with Directed Energy Manifolds or Prefire Chambers. When you get within ten kilometers and you see the lance charging, pop the Quantum Focused Shield Bubble to absorb the lance hit, all of your alpha strike buffs, Emergency Power to Auxiliary III, and Feedback Pulse III. With any luck, this will reflect two to three times the incoming energy damage from the lance back at the Unimatrix and one-shot it.

yep got nailed 28k out, been happening for a while, you can stay near the queen right underneath her but then you need to have a way to deal with the green balls of insta death
It wasn't difficult before... just time consuming (if you knew what to do) we could get in close, before LOR... we could... on occasion we'd get lanced or a torp just happened to crit us... which is fine, we could still do damage.
They have a 360? arc now and massive range, nearly impossible to beat it once they start firing. The upside is a good team can often take out 1 and most of the 2nd ship before the lances activate.
Also I found a hiding spot on one side behind some space structures that lets you just barely fire and not get hit, the 2nd ship doesn't have the luxury.
