Sooo...The Summer Event

johngazmanjohngazman Member Posts: 2,826 Arc User
So yeah. Just done Flying High for all my toons. Not bad - better than the Winter Event version, which is far too easy to fail. And just successfully finished my first Hunt, which I scored a bird egg from. So i'm pretty chuffed with myself now.

So...what else is there to do? I feel i've done everything in the space of about ten minutes.

Now, I know some people will say that I should start hoarding Favors. My answer, in a phrase, is hell no. I've seen the store on Risa. The words "Overpriced" and "Lack of value for money" spring to mind.

Let's see;

- 600 Favors (EACH) for the Risian outfits. That's 1200 for the shirt and pants, plus 600 if you want the flowers. There's very little variation, and although it's nice to make them customisable, I don't feel i'm getting my Favor's worth as I did with the winter coats.

- Up to 1000 Favors for a Superior Floater. Why? You can very well complete Flying High with the rental one. And if your Rental one fails, it's not like you have to trek all the way back from the other side of the island to get a new one - you can just beam back there and grab another rental one. Up to 1000 favors for the convienece of not having to go back to the resort every so often.

Speaking of which;

The hunt is not fun. Simple as. Unlike it's Winter Event counterpart, which does instill a sense of camaraderie as you take on the Snowman Overlord, the hunt is just another competition to see who can reach the totem's first. I do feel that the decision to both limit it to "First Come, First Served" and make it the only decent method of gaining favors was poorly thought out. It'd be nice if the Hunt was always active, albeit without the map telling you exaclty where the totems are. Then you and your fleet could strap on your floaters and go hunting as a team.

So yeah. Nice premise, Cryptic, but flawed execution. I can't see myself spending hours combing Risa as I did the snowball piles in the Winter Wonderland. At best, i'll be logging in to do Flying High for the next 25 days, and then logging out again.

The whatever Hunt is NOT first come first served - it sticks around for anyone to grab after the fact. It's just that you personally can only grab each one once.

    Just FYI.

Also note that when you accept the hunt mission, there's some randomness to which horga'hns you can collect. It's possible for one player to have active horga'hns that you will not be able to see or pick up, but that means that you will have available horga'hns that they can't see or pick up.

Ah, so it disappears for me but the guy behind me still sees it? Okay, i'm satisfied with that.

**** is still way too pricey though.

Ah right, thanks for the clarification.

    On the "Too Expensive" topic...

I logged in today for a bit under 2 hours and managed to get my hands on something like 60 Favors.

So, let's round up and assume that works out to 1 per 2 minutes of play.

1000 Favors for the Superior Floater will take 2000 minutes to earn. Or 33.33 hours.

While that's pretty dang high for a "fun" item, it's probably priced that high so that people doing the event 25+ days (to get the ship) have other goals they can work toward. I know that I got everything I wanted out of the Winter Event store in like a week, and then kept logging in just to get the ship... which ended up feeling more like a job than a game, because I wasn't having fun doing other things between the race.

So, I'm gonna log in for Risa at least 25 days. If I play 2 hours per day, that'll get me a Superior Floater by the end, in addition to my Starship.

Yeah... it's good to have more than one goal. Though I wouldn't argue with the prices being dropped a little... Then again, I suppose lots of folks are just selling their Favors for EC, so maybe I can spend a little scratch on the Auction House and make up the difference?

Bottom Line: It's Day 1. I'll reserve my pricing judgements until later in the event.

Yeah, that a bit steep. I want to be wearing my beach shorts on Day 1, or by the end of the first weekend at the least.

In the winter event I got both of my main characters in stylish long winter coats and scarves and equipped with both snow guns and in frosted boots inside of a week, just logging in for a couple of hours each night.

And you don't think that made the rest of the event kinda boring? What'd you do for the remaining two weeks?

I did the same thing, for the record... and found myself without sufficient motivation to enjoy finishing off the ship chore.

I think the place is simply gorgeous, and so quite and peaceful when you hit the north side of the island (which is simply huge!). Its serene, its relaxing, and all I need is a swimsuit and somewhere to go snorkeling. Loving it.

As to the shortage of favors.....huh? Spent like an hour poking around, and between the dance contest and statue hunt I came up with around 150 in that time frame. I dunno about buying elite jetpacks or getting the outfit for ALL my characters, but I'm not feeling especially constrained either.

I got clothing and gear for my other characters, stockpiled damage buffing food, got the fun boots for a few characters, helped my two fleets complete the winter special projects, raised epohhs for the romulan marks, and generally just logged in and had fun.

Well, I managed to nab, within an hour, about 110, and that was with me being lax/new to all the things. I'm sure if I keybind all my dances, I can make more. Theoretically, 10 hours would nab me 1100 Favors, and thus a Superior Jetpack. That would leave plenty of time to get the favors for outfits, etc... though I do think the outfits are too expensive.

I managed to get a Winter Scarf for all my characters last time... now I'll be lucky if I get a Costume Piece for ONE of them. Let alone a single piece for all of them.

this fails for me behind the winter event.

the dancing takes too long, and the hunt is boring, just flying around. and in the end, you can get a costume pack, some random stuff, or floaters, that you can only use during the summer evnet, possibly :(

with the winter event, it was fun. the breen ship challange was good, and here the new one, is not bad.

the snowman fight, was brilliant, it kept me entertained for quite long, but the hunt is rly not entertaining, just fly around, and it does not have the silly motivation, like the snowmen

the dance... yeah, it gives little, takes too long. while the pvp running in winter, was great :)

however, the accolade hunt on this map, is brilliant. far better than just find the snowmen on winter event, props for that :)

There is definitely too few ways to get Favors. The winter event had the snowball piles and doff assignments in addition to the timed events. Now we're stuck grinding the dance and statue hunt for 110-120 favors/hour and that's just not enough.

The dance is boring. "Click an emote when you're told to 38 times in a row" is not my idea of a good time, and that's after I figured out I could pin the emote menu on the screen so I didn't need to open and scroll through it every single time. It's also a horrible spamfest on the chat screen.

The statue hunt is better. At least you only have 10 repeats per run to do. And you can find bird eggs in addition to favors. It's still nowhere near as good as the snowman fight or the PvP race.

I'd say the jetpack flying mission is better than the solo race in the winter event. Though, I recognize this may be because I did the winter race every day for as long as the event lasted, and have for now only done the jetpack mission for the first day. It takes longer to do and I now have one more toon to run it on every day, so I may have to change my opinion on it later. Still, it has multiple paths and you don't get the same ones every time, so it shouldn't be quite as repetitive.

The jetpacks are fun...Correction, the 50-favor standard jetpacks are fun. The vanishing rentals are nothing but a pain and the "better" expensive jetpacks are a complete waste of favors since they can only be used in the event map. There is no point in spending hours grinding for something that's going to be thrown away when the event ends. Although I do believe both the statue hunt and the jetpack flight paths would be much more fun and at least slightly less tedious with a faster jetpack, the difference can't possibly be enough to make up for the time spent paying for one.

I'm very much looking forward to the bird breeding. Although after these and the khellids being added in a short amount of time one has to again bring up the question of where are we supposed to store all these pets?

You must be pretty terrible at this game. I know people that have the purple floater already.

The number of complaints about an event that people don't have to do are incredible. Don't like it don't play it. People are even complaining about the price of the ship. 2.5 hours ago 4 of my friends reported having the corvette. It's so expensive that they bought it today with lobi.

If you are having issues with the 1000 favor floater get the cheap one for 50 and use the event tribble to get a speed and handling boost. Not exactly a big deal.

Boring? Why would anyone want to be tied to an even for its full duration? As it is they made the few clothing items off duty so they are more or less useless for most outfits, what's the point of expensive floaters you can't use outside of Risa? This whole thing has been poorly thought out so far, but maybe there's more coming we don't know? Lets hope so, as even the sunglasses were incredibly disappointing.

    I FIND READING HARD

I also insult people on a forum.

Nice one missing the point completely but then you are supporting the idiocy in this thread. People can easily pay in lobi and easily afford the ship. If you actually bothered to read my post you'll see the reference to lobi. Seriously people are complaining about an easy daily. They just want everything to be given to them without even playing the game.

The rest of the time I gunned down snowmen like a murderous lunatic, got all my characters all the coats and scarves and nanopulse weapons, made an absolute killing selling bajoran gratitude beads, did the PvP race with a powersliding Gorn, breezing by people who'd never seen a cold blooded creature move that fast, got enough Rom marks breeding epohhs on four characters to get them to tier 5 rep without ever touching Tau Dewa, traded in my remaining trinkets for enough cold hard latinum to buy my Gorn the most expensive ship trophy, and generally had an absolute blast.

It's not a grind if you're having fun.

    Wow!

OK, well, so I sort of cheat a little bit by using three toons to run the statue hunting mission (can get three runs done per cycle) and I've already earned 1,000 Favors and got my super-duper-floater-thing.

I've also sold eight stacks of 50 (1.3m each. Seriously guys. Why are you paying this much!!) and I have 300 left.

I guess I'm just a quick study, but give it a few days and Flavor will be as common as mud - so don't sweat it. Certainly nowhere near 33.33 hours for 1,000. I got mine at about 1am, start playing/grinding when it came online at 6pm. 7 hours (minus dinner) of relaxed grinding.

I probably got the same again in 4 hours once I figured out that the dance competition was a waste of time :D

Barring that, all I wanted was clothing I could actually use with other clothing. And, as I've stated multiple times (and will keep banging the drum until I am forced to stop)...

But nah. Floating around. That's totally worthwhile.

My thoughts on this so far are:
The ship: Its not great, but might be a fun ship to fly in because of the speed, I don't see any character wanting to actually use it. My Main will get it, the rest I won't bother.

The daily for the ship: Its easy, but so was the winter event, takes longer and seems less fun. Maybe that will change with a non-rental jetpack and better handling on day 2.

The dance: It gets a bit tedious around #20, reaching 38 is rough.
The hunt: I like better than the dance, at least its active, but 15 minutes for 30 favours.. ugh, kill me.

Pricing: If I want to be reason and get each costume and 1 superior jetpack, we are looking at 2900 favours or so, I think its 2960 for the food and standard jetpack too. For a single character, that is a very long time to get things just for one, alts are nearly impossible to do.

I've already given up on alts and might have to scale back what I want for my main, sad.

Yeah, the Dance is annoying. Quite so. So slow.

The Hunt? Simple. I can do it in about 4 minutes without fail. That also means that if you wanted (as I'm not) you can alt to two other people and do it in time, too.
