How about... giving out specific marks for enemies defeated?

It just occured to me - coul the game give out marks for certain types of kills? Such as, whenever you defeat a Tholian ship, you get 1-5 Nukara marks, whenever you defeat a Tal Shiar or Hirogen ship, you get Romulan Marks, whenever you defeat a Borg ship, you get Omega marks...

That way, story or even Foundry missions could grant some marks and the "grinding" for the reputations wouldn't be one. so much as something you can do while playing any part of the game you enjoy?

I think you hit the reason why it doesn't exist when you added in the foundry.

There exist today missions that are designed to get you through the accolades for particular enemies... you will face up to 125 NPC's... The difficulty of Foundry NPCs is FAR TOO LOW (read too easy)

So what you create is a system that could be taken advantage of, and people would be farming thousands of marks in a matter of hour or less.

The other issue is that it agains tilts the game in favor of DPS pew pewing. Another reason to run high DPS escorts.

We had a discussion about such in out fleet chat a bit ago.

A better (non foundry abusing) system would be the following:

    LVL 50 only.

Normal difficulty missions (including patrol missions in sector space) give out 5 marks for completing.
Advanced difficulty missions give out 10 marks for completing.
Elite difficulty missions give out 15 marks for completing.

The rewarded marks come in the form of the new box of choice marks. All marks are represented.

I am not a fan of all marks packages. I do like the OP's idea of the marks being tied to the enemy faced.... Personally, getting Nukara marks for fighting the borg doesnt make sense. Nor does earning fleet marks for a single person mission (patrols).

They removed the individual MARKS from each area/cluster becuase it was unwieldy and had to have a conversion rate becuase those marks earned as a LT were deamed inferior or cheaper than marks earned as a Admiral.
They need to go back to one currency and forget about the individual marks. Would it be so hard to just earn OMEGA marks for al content, used universally for all new factions/events?

I can perfectly sey why they would not want to give out "generic marks" - after all, reputation is supposed to be effort vs. one specific type of goal or one type of opponent.

That's why the idea in the OP seems so useful to me. You can have the marks, and still be not condemned to running, say, the same two missions over and over.

The issue I'm having though, is that once a reputation is done, I have no reason what so ever to run that content again.

I'm completely done with both omega and romulan reputation. The result is, I no longer run either romulan or borg STF's. Partly because I've done them so many times already, that doing them for fun alone isn't enough if there is no reward for me.

I'm not really in favour of a universal mark package but I would like all marks to be availible everywhere. At least there could be a bonus to specific marks based on type of enemies.

    For example:

Elite Borg STF rewards 90 omega marks or 60 of any other mark (box choice)
Where mind trap rewards 90 romulan marks or 60 of any other mark (box choice)

    And so forth.

This way I can advance other rep or gain fleet marks in STF's I currently get no real rewards from.

I'm all for more options to earn marks... and EC, Dil, and CXP for that matter. The question as always is how to limit abuse.

Kill rewards are awarded as per-enemy rewards, not per-encounter. This means that the game engine probably can't reward you on a per-wave basis currently. Per-kill rewards could rack up too fast even at only one mark per kill.

They could conceivably reward them for objective-completion, but objectives don't care about the specific enemy killed and they'd have to flag it somehow.

The big issue with the Foundry is intentionally stacking waves and then blowing them to smithereens in a chain-reaction. That would throw a monkey wrench into the idea of rewarding marks for completing an objective.

That leaves us with mission-completion rewards. But Foundry-side it's not set up to distinguish a mission containing Borg from a mission containing Tholians, so that's still out. For Cryptic-authored missions, they'd have to manually add the marks to the reward tables for every mission. Doable, but time-consuming and what's in it for them?

I'm not holding out much hope for the idea... all I can hope for is that they eventually go back and retrofit marks as replay rewards for old and new missions.
