Something else that has gotten under my skin lately. Since the Nukara Hard missions were moved to the Queues, Star Trek Online doesn?t require me to Trek anywhere.
For the last two days, I have found that I can complete my entire day without once changing sectors, or traveling anywhere (outside of the Insta-Travel when queue missions start). I literally feel that we all have the power of Q? able to appear in an instant where ever we so choose, and pop back to where we came from? no muss, no fuss, AND no social interact and no shared experience.
Heck most queue missions the only communication going on most of the time is ?Help!? or ?ty gg?.
There was a time when you had to go somewhere to join a mission. Even for queue missions, there were known ?hangouts? for certain things. DS9 Was the STF hangout (because of the Borg Shop), K7 used to be the Fed PVP Hangout, Dronza was the RP?er, and so on. While you were there you intereacted with people, building teams, chatting waiting on the 5th player to be ready, you build relationships, and made friends (and even some enemies). A shared experiences breeds friendship and camaraderie.
Do people still use specific hubs for these types of purposes?
The treklessness has made the likelyhood of my decision to acquire a LTS less and less every day. I wonder how many more people who were willing to put some money into this game no longer have any desire to do so...
Dammit J'mpok! I'm a warrior... not a PETA tagger!

How many various facets can we pull into this thread?? no, i'm not being facetious. When i first started this game a few months ago, i was stunned by how wonderfully the federation storyline was woven together. I was excited, I wanted and wished i had the money for a subscription ( fifteen dollars a month can feed me for three days and i have to consider that first ). then i made a klingon character.. WTF?? Oh yeahhh, the original federation storyline was created by another company who in the past was well known for their games and story telling.. Then i tried Using payPal as a F2P player. i aint rich, but my account is solid and good and paypal only takes out the amount that i'm supposed to be paying but it pays instantly like using a debit card.. guess what.. F2P players cant use PayPal.. No way i'm getting a subscription with practices like that.. The factions have been neglected, the stories cut in half, the content twisted and manipulated so that ONLY the most prosperous, wealthy and fortunate can get it ( after filling Cryptics coffers with even MORE cash ). no, theres no way I'll ever get a subscription, and as for lifetime membership?? Sorry, no way. Even if the game were perfect ( and its very far from that ) I've got a terminal disease and i'm not spending 300 dollars on a game that i only have one or two years to theoretically enjoy.. it just aint happening..

You're right. The issue is that the grind has taken overhand. There are way too many currencies being used in game. EC, Dill, Lobi, Latinum and probably even some stuff I'm forgetting. On top of that there are now 4 different reputation/mark systems and tons of stuff you need for fleet bases. Just getting your daily amount of dilithium, marks and special doff missions takes quite some time. Imagine how much more time would be required if you had to travel everywhere and gather a group. I agree that the Trek has gone missing. If it is to come back, the grind will also have to be put back to a normal level. Otherwise it's overkill.

I know i dont.. I'm not really much of a role player.. guess its just a lack of imagination or perhaps the drive to do so.. I'm not really into PvP either.. Since Nam i've had this weird thing about killing other human beings in any form.. Tat leaves STF's.. You all know the state of the galaxy and those that occupy it. Everyone just wants to spam their ships special effects or sit around all aloof, self important and cool looking ( or so they think ).. Nowadays i just stick with my fleet or join the PvE queues for stfs.. the rest of it really isnt worth it any more..
So get off your butt and go do something. Fly around and look for doff chains, go to Drozana and have a drink, go to Nimbus III and have some old-west style fun, go play story missions that start all over the place, go play Foundry missions that start everywhere imaginable, go dilithium mining, go to New Romulus or Defera Invasion Zone, go do Deferi dailies, go do Kerrat, go start a player-generated event like a race around the galaxy or something.
In other words, GO!!! There is plenty of game out there beyond the queue, but you gotta get in your ship and go look for it.
I'm guessing you don't do very many doff assignments? Or Tour the Universe? Or get your dilithium from most of the dailies you can't warp to? Or do the foundry missions not located at a transwarp destination?
I'm new, and I'm F2P. I haven't unlocked Diplomacy Rank 3 or 4. I doff alot. I'm still doing storyline quests. I have to say, at my current level of experience and progression, I can't NOT fly around in my lvl 40 ship at warp 9.97 trying to do nearly everything I want to do.

This is an excellent point that I hadn't really considered (my main toons have leveled in Omega and Rom reps, and both are on T5 of Nukara( so I am focusing only on 1 rep + dil).
Its funny to me that the whole purpose Dilithium came out was to reduce the number of in game currencies there were... and if I'm correct, we have more now than before Dilithium.

No they need big brother to do it for them, it's like yelling at the city for adding a subway system, and complaining it's making you fat because you don't have to walk to work anymore.

heh. i here ya.. I'm lvl 50 personally, and I'd LOVE to do all of that. but the constant grinding to build rep ( the constant need to do estf's for dil ) the constant demands from the game and my own precious fleet for more dil ( which they need because of the demands of the game ) make it impossible to do anything except sit there running estfs all day if i ever hope to have a rats chance in hell of enjoying anything here before i frikkin die.. Frankly, I'm a bit more than tired of it. there is no trek in trek any more. just this constant grind for dil and EC..

If you don't enjoy any of that, why are you doing it?
All that stuff we played before the slide bars is still there, and we don't need the latest MK XII gadget to play it.
Except for the DS9 fleet action, they really need to bring that back
Yes on DS9
But, I have to disagree on the first comment, its there... in some form. But that form has really become a watered down, wash rinse, repeat, grindable form. Unfortunately, thats the direction the dev's/publisher want the game to go.
So I can not go to Gamma Orionis and still do KA the way it came out, nor Infected, or Cure... Terradome is still there, and still a marathon (and still buggy).
I probably am one of the worst abusers of this, I have 3 or 4 missions on my character at all times just to use the transwarp. I even use it just to beam straight from the ground to sector space just to skip loading screens even if all im doing is going straight outside the station lol. I normally try to fill up my assignment slots with long doff missions to minimize flying around and normally just stay at New Romulus or Qonos all day. I wouldn't mind seeing more reasons to actually go to hubs and occasionaly use sector space for something other then doffing.

Certainly true on the STFs, they no longer exist in their original form.
I still think there is plenty out there in the game, but you gotta choose to go do it. However, I will agree that Cryptic should certainly make an effort to give players more things to do out there and more reasons to go out into the far corners of space. Maybe the long-hinted at exploration revamp could help in that regard...
it would be helpful if all missions gave out some amount of dilithium and fleet marks and even omega, romulan, nuktukia marks dipending on the missions. cause the story is the most trekie thing about sto and the ships too
As much I would like I do injoy the KDF site missions and romies side, maybe one day fed side as well if the story's won't make the feds look like a bunch of dumb idiots who don't know whats going on in there teritorium.
That's said I don't do grind missions because I don't want to be in a time loop doing stuff over and over again. Even my Facebook games are more amusing then STO is at the moment. Let's say I do have a LTF account and I bought it when the gold cards where gone that was before PWE took the staff.
Also I would point out the great work the devs did on the romies and KDF side there aren't many new missions with the KDF, they put in FED missions rewrite text and they launched it maybe you didn't notice it but if you are a long time player like me you know what i'm saying.
The only thing I do play is the fleet missions replay some old storylines to get some EC to buy stuff for the starbase not much more then that.
Sometimes I buy some zen convert it to dillitium and put it into the SB project.
But overal I agree with all here that they put more and more que missions ( GRIND ) into the game and far to little story lines....

Well, I for one don't miss 'flying around sector space constantly'. That gets old really quick, given that very little happens in sector space. It's just traversing the same bit of space over and over.
I like being able to do everything I need to do from a single 'hub'. I've taken to using Drozana as my 'hub', because it offers everything I want except a boff trainer, and I was getting tired of hanging around Qo'noS (the only KDF-specific place that offers a boff trainer).
Every time Cryptic tries to insert 'Trekking' into the game, it turns out boring or not well done. Exploration? Boring and routine as hell, I'd rather run dailies than do exploration missions.
First, a question: Do you need to be a Romulan or something to get into the Nimbus system. all my fed ship was doing was flying right past it. I'd like to check it out.
I try to make my playing style as "Trek" as I can. Any ideas on how to use the resources already available in this game to accomplish this would be appreciated. What I do now is:
I don't transwarp anywhere that I can get to by setting a course and just flying there. It gives me a better sense of space. it still takes a very short time to get to places in the game though. It would be cool if it took a while to get from sector to sector and random stuff happened on the way like in a traditional RPG. Like orders to stop by at planet X to investigate something, or a subspace call from a system you are passing, or a a new space-faring race wandering about the sector that you could talk to. That all would be cool. It might also be too complicated to program that. I don't know.
Also, whatever sector I happen to be in, I load up on the longest duty officer missions available to me. That makes me want to hang around for a few days and poke around until they are done as if I actually went someplace.
With all this transwarp and queue system, isn't it a marvellous age we live in. Perfect for lazy players to get straight to the action.
Nimbus is part of the "Wasteland" story arc, which you can access from the episodes menu. You should have also received a mission from Drake for it on log in for no cost.
Something else that has gotten under my skin lately. Since the Nukara Hard missions were moved to the Queues, Star Trek Online doesn?t require me to Trek anywhere.
Sector space in STO is IMO the most unimaginative space I have ever encountered in a science fiction game. It's just a bunch of rectangular boxes. I wish the devs would somehow get entirely rid of that and have us always travel in 'normal' space.
The queue system also has made sure that I always park my characters in one social hub and only move them for DOff missions.
Indeed, I was thinking about buying a LTS but all PvE Ques and less SandBox worlds make it far less tempting. I do fly around getting DOFF missions but it's mostly for money, not for fun. I have hit up Nimbis but it's tiny & not much todo sides the overly easy pop up boss/mini boss battles.
New Romulus has tobe the best but the missions aren't all that rewarding. Deferi Invasion is pretty well rounded though there is one section blocked off still for some reason.
Risa & Defera planet city side are just empty for some reason, not even a trading post on them for some odd reason. That's a simple add for kontent.

They might exist ... in a master file ... but unfortunately so far too few players have asked for their reinstatement .
As things stand , the only place that's left that a player can "loose" himself is the Foundry .
It's that or move them sliders , grind that grind .
