Jetpacks, Catamarans and Bare Feet, oh my!

Some interesting new screenshots in the gallery here... This Risa event might be fun. Jetpacks? Will be interesting to see how those work. That Risian Corvette looks like a space-catamaran. Looks like we'll probably have some new costume options too... flip flops!

Fingers crossed that we have some kind of PvP race again!

    I'm seeing that jetpack and already thinking how I can design Foundry missions for it. Space Jump!

    I hope we can use it outside of Risa.

    I'm wondering if that new environment is a permanent redesign of the Risa social zone, or a special area we can only visit during the event like Q's Winter Wonderland. I would hope it's permanent, it's much more appealing than the 3-4 shabby beach shacks we have now.

    That doesn't surprise me. There's probably all sorts of peril involved in letting people fly through environments that weren't intended for it. They'd be finding ways out into the void outside the map, getting stuck in walls, finding invisible pitfalls, etc.

    Exactly, that's how I know how nuts it would be WITH the jetpacks :P

    And really seeing every single person flying around ESD, DS9, First City, etc, in a jetback would go beyond immersion breaking and into cheesetastic territory. So yeah, probably a good thing they limit those.

    yep.. they would... be having to use thier /unstuck command like crazy.. I'd feel terrible for them, it would be so sad to see some player complaining in zone chat on how they got stuck and *blows coffee out nose* ... sorry, the humor of it just over came me.

    Let it be! If players break the graphics, find holes etc.. note, em, fix 'em as they get found..
    but otherwise.. no special attention..

    I can all ready think of map geometries that would be a challange for racing... trick is making space objects that if players "hit" them, damagae a ship.. or make it go boom.. racing an over powered brute of a small starship designed for speed and manuverability should be a dangerous pastime... ohhh yes, the possibilities are definatly there!

    This was my first thought when I saw the screenshots. I realy hope the devs. decide to keep the new additions to the environment on Risa even when the event is over.
    They worked hard to create the new surroundings, so why not have them all year long so us players can enjoy their work whenever we decide to take a break on Risa. :)

    There is the practical map consideration for jetpacks, sure.

    But another consideration is that for social zones to be a success, they need to have unique things to do in them. I like the idea of Risa being a place to hop around and get a jetpack to fly around in because it's a unique activity. I'm more likely to go there with something to do there.

    The Jetpacks will be limited to Risa.

    Jetpacks really! Cryptic have officially lost the plot. :( So if people keep on enough they get what they want! Well I'll give it a go. I want a working bug free game. :P

    I do hope the flip flops are optional. I have, and never will wear flip flops.

    I gotta agree with this. Though if you make me Hercules you might could get me down for a sword and sandals movie adventure. Phasers n flip-flops just won't cut it.

    being as you could beam into the winter wonderland in a loincloth, pretty sure flip flops are optional

    I'd wager that you have a character with a bridge full of green female Orion BOs all scantily dressed with their sandals and some waving palm fronds at that character. ;)

    Seriously though, seeing what the devs can do within the game is amazing to me. It also keeps me optimistic for the future of STO. :D

    It was stated by their facebook community manager that KDF will get special passes to visit Risa with during the event

    I'm cool with the Jetpacks being Risa-only; just so long as it remains "Jetpack Zone" after the event finishes.

    Lost the plot? Over jetpacks? I know they were only Jet Boots, but.. Spock could fill you in on Jetpacks, too, I think...

    From the screenshot, it seems like these are meant to be reminiscent of the thruster packs from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
