Shocked that Cryptic would associate themselves with this person.
Edit: Wanted to add that I've always known Cryptic to be a tolerant company for people of all types; infinite diversity infinite combinations. STO and their other games have always been welcoming of people whether you're straight, TRIBBLE, or anything else.
I'm absolutely ashamed to find out that they're partnering with people who promote hate speech against any type of person.

Well, I for one am glad you are reconsidering and looking into that, Brandon . . . I never heard of this guy but someone linked me to his channel today and I didn't even make it past his front page. Some of the stuff I saw posted there was very unprofessional and not on par with being associated for any promotional linking with Cryptic or any other entity for that matter. I have DJ'd and streamed for a number of online stations, and partnered with a few private individuals as well, and no one I know of in the streaming world would even attempt to behave like that and even try to ask a game developer to do an event with them.
Any chance of my recommending this event to my friends went out the window with reading just his front page LOL.
To idrona . . . twitch is another method of social networking. Think YouTube meets Facebook combined. The user referred to in this thread is just a user of that site, and none of this is in any direct way affiliated with Twitch at all. Twitch actually has some great programs on it, and I have seen many game related broadcasts, podcasts and streams of other sorts go through Twitch. This user, however, is definitely an exception to those higher standards a lot of us have seen there.
EDIT: ROFL! I didn't detect your joke until I saw Twitch in your signature. ~chuckles~ I'll leave the explanation in my post though for others to see, so folks don't get Twitch and the user confused with each other.

I've shown evidence he has no problem promoting anti-TRIBBLE hate speech and still Cryptic has confirmed using him to endorse the product. Presumably because he promised he wouldn't use hate-speech for the 2 hours he's playing STO?
Frankly, this makes me feel like Cryptic really doesn't care about TRIBBLE people. Maybe that's a little over dramatic, but it's the only reason I can come up with in my head.
You say you don't condone hate speech in any capacity, but you use someone with a history of hate speech to promote your product. I don't even know how that's okay.
What would you say to me, as a TRIBBLE person, about why you think he's a good person to represent your product?
On the marketing side of things, I'm not sure how popular this Towelie guy is.
If he is very popular amongst gamers, then it makes sense to ask him to promote stuff, from a financial standpoint.
If a lot of people saw him playing a game and saying "Ooooh, this is good check this out fellas!" Than I'm sure some of those people may become buying customers.
And I really dont think Cryptic or PWE would let him do some bad publicity stunts by insulting homosexuals or anybody else.
So I would not worry about the guy doing anything hate-speech related.
While I do agree in some aspect with you, that this is for marketing purposes only and the possibility of larger revenue, even if it is a small increase, I have to agree, in general thought, with concerns addressed by some of the players.
He did probably "promised" that he wouldn't say anything that would be considered as hate speech, otherwise he would not get this opportunity.
But that's only for a period of two hours and there are no guaranties that his approach to some people wouldn't continue as usual. And off coarse, I am not saying that we need that guarantee, considering that CS can't force him to do anything, and why would they.
It's simple, he apparently has some issues with TRIBBLE people and TRIBBLE community in this game, as well as any other ofc, don't like when other people treat them as a second class person. Any association with those kind of people, condoning something they do not understand and do not have the right to, is in direct violation of CS statement that everyone is equal - I just don't see how they can say that and still affiliate themselves with those who don't think alike.
I come from a country where people are trying to change the constitution of the state so that it is said that marriage is only and exclusively between a man and a woman. So if I don't condone that and affiliate myself with those people I, in essence, support their claims. Which I don't so I don't associate with them in any way or form.
It is the same here, no debate needed. And if any arises there are just excuses, nothing more, and nothing good will come from it.
One example is needed. When those people that I mentioned, who are trying to change the constitution, approached one famous person in my country, an athletic, and asked her to support their claims, she said yes and made a video in which she stated that marriage is only between a man and a woman, it is a normal thing. She has a contract with Adidas, who condones any hate speech and accepts, on all levels, diversity of people. They are in a process of terminating their contract with that athletic, if she doesn't pull back what she said.
The same applies here, only different context. It's not needed, people will still play the game, but on some moral standpoint, it is good to postpone or choose a different live streamer.
That's all I have to say, for now.

They implicitly approve his hate speech by using him as their spokesperson for the game.
Cryptic, you are knowingly using someone with a history of hate speech to promote your game. You are approving his past actions by making him your partner in this promotion. You are saying it's okay to use hate speech and still be part of STO. You are condoning his hate speech by giving him an important position in your product. You are telling people that to get prizes for the game, they have to go through this person who you know has bashed gays in the past.
If any other spokesperson was caught publicly bashing gays, they would be dropped immediately no questions asked.
I don't get why Cryptic isn't seeing this.
What message do you think you're sending to TRIBBLE players when you say this person is okay to represent the game? "If you use hate speech, you can still promote our game, we'll still give you prizes and we'll put your name on our front page"?
I would have needed help with managing the chat and raffle away the prizes though.
Noone asked though so it's irrelevant I guess.
I dont like persecuting homosexuals for their sexual choices, but I also dislike persecuting heterosexuals for their own views. Its just as bad.
What its left to do?
Well you shouldn't feel ashamed if you are going to take part to the event anyway... just remember this... one day you will find yourself (or someone close to you) trappend in some minority group (too tall or too short or too pale or too much out of conformity)....
What will I do?
I will not take part at the event and I'll post on my blog an invite to do the same to my friends and fleet mates!
Why?
I want to make a minority out of the ppl complaining about other minority groups!
Just FYI I'm straight and I've got a family I may not be the most clever person on the planet but I know this much: Live peacefully and leave the other to do the same and you'll have a smooth ride to wherever you are going to! Its just Intellectual honesty...
BTW just becouse THIS event will be friendly for all it doesn't justify a thing...

Agreed. But I have not stated nothing of sorts in my post. And if you have read something that would, through your own perspective, imply that I don't condone persecuting anyone for their views and actions than I could have written it a bit more comprehensible.
All I have implied, or at least tried, is that you can't condone someones actions and associate with them at the same time; and if CS doesn't condone, in this case, hate speeches and vulgar language than my point is pointless.

This because I would like to see a better world (and EVERY little helps)..... and not attending the even doesn't even cost me anything (its a cheap way of doing my part btw)!
As mentioned I DO belive in freedom of choice, and no one attending the event should feel bad in anyway, feel free to justify it with the convenience of having a chance to get some really cool stuff for free.

If I'm mistaken and someone you know acctualy works in the textile industry please ask him why you shouldn't buy cheap stuff (or expensive stuff made from kids..).. Nobody in my family works for any US based company. I do not believe any cloth products are made from children, to be honest.
In real life, me not supporting anti-TRIBBLE views publicly would greatly upset my family and my friends too, as in the place I live in I'm considered way too liberal already. I would most likely loose any chance at inheritance too.
If I had a job, it would most likely cause friction with fellow employes too.
But since I'm a very friendly person, I privately like to uphold the freedom of thought and speech.
Freedom for everybody to like and dislike whatever they choose to, as long as they keep themselves to legal and non violent ways of expressing their opinions.
