I have read a couple of times that the Excelsior is horrible for an Eng in PVP, I am wondering why, or if what I read was outdated. I am wondering why something like this wouldn't work:
Fore Weapons
Single Cannonx3, Torpedo
Aft Weapons
Turretx3, Cutting Beam
Lt Com Tac
TT, HY2, RF2
Com ENG
EPtS, A2B, Extend Shields, Aux2SIF
Lt Eng
EptS, A2B
Ens Eng
Eng Team
Lt Sci
HE, PH
Consoles
Borg, Nuetroniumx2, EPS
Romulan Zero Point, Field Emitter
Energy Damagex4
Could just as easily put beams on it and make the Lt Com Tac:
TT, HY, BO
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
I have one and run TT1, BO2, BO3
all Crit consoles and Crit Romulan Boffs equiped.
Sprial wave disruptors with 4 XII purple Tac Consoles. Aux2batt setup with Doffs and I can back to back the BO's and yes it hurts. I change out the Tac Boff to TT1, APB, BO3 or TT1, FAW2, APB2 depending on what I am doing. In fleet PVE you need to have lots of AOE attacks so the FAW works better. For attacking single targets I use the BO build, and for Arena PVP, TT1, BO2, APO or TT1, APB, APO

I think it's more the point that the Excelsior is best as a DPS cruiser, while engineers aren't good for DPS.
Certainly won't be bad though. Given an engs tanking skills, it should allow you to stay in a hard fight that bit longer. That said, without APA you probably won't be a significant threat in it.
I too spent many months trying to figure out why SPEFICALLY people said to avoid the excelsior as an engineer.
What Icame to find out is that you should just avoid the engineer altogether for pvp. I have thoought of trying mine again now with the EPtX changes though. I would definitely.reccmmend that you try to find a way to squeeze in APO and a copy of EPtW2 or better. Its not quite a replacement for APA but it might be enough.
people say not to use an eng in an excelsior because its pointless. thats a cruisers with station powers that favor dealing damage, and engineers suck at dealing damage and even synergizeing with anything that deals damage. its less optimized at supporting with its LTC tac, and supporting is the only thing an eng is sort of good at.
but dont bother using an eng at all was also a good answer too

Aux to bat with tech doffs will keep them both at global with just one copy each.
