"You are temporarily banned from joining or creating public queues" - Huh?

gremmergremmer Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I've been enjoying PvE group missions over the last days. Tonight, I jumped into a Red Alert borg mission. Our group failed, and I gracefully left the instance and returned to sector space.

Now, I get the message "You are temporarily banned from joining or creating public queues." PvPGeneral

I feel like I'm being falsely accused of some act, and penalized without reason or even explanation. Why did this happen? What did I do?

How long am I banned for? 5 minutes? 6 hours? 3 days? A month?

Can I appeal?

I am new, just subscribed to gold, and already regretting it Come on, Cryptic, you can do better than this!

while the system isn't perfect the system was designed to keep people form just up and leaving and leaving toher players high and dry in a instance.....if I remember right its for 60 mins so just go on a alt and do some Stfs ......relax ....take a breath...before you know it it will be over

Usually you get a temporal banning if you leave a STF early... this is the first time i've heard of someone banned for leaving a failed red alert.

unless something is bugged, you should be able to play in a PvE queue after 1 hour

I've had this happen to me once... There is a difference between using the warp to sector on the edge of the mini-map, and the end of mission leave prompt on a failure. Always use the end of mission or leave map prompt...

Thanks for all the insights and suggestions. The "ban" went away eventually.

I had left the mission and instance "gracefully" -- that is, following the prompts from NPCs. I did not leave prematurely.

I've played dozens of MMOs going all the way back to Asheron's Call.

Never been banned in all that time.

It's a temporary ban - I've had a few when I've been booted from the map due to some bug or network hitch. I've even swallowed a few intentionally, when the game was not completable, ie, only 1 other player, ICE, and no way to kill the nanite ships fast enough. I've only got time to play a few hours a day, so I'm not going to waste them.

But I would like to see some agressive anti-AFKer system in place during the game - I saw a player in TCF doing nothing at the spawn point for most of the game. Later, after a few Raptors got close to the Kang, he moved closer and fired his weapons only to stay still for the remainder of the game.

The core problem is that he's talking about a red alert not an STF, big difference. There is no ban(or not supposed to be) for leaving a red alert at any time.

I know, but I've always thought that abandoning a RA would incur the same consequences as leaving a STF, not that I've actually experienced them (having never left an RA). The fact that it seems to be the case now is not really a problem, IMO.

It does not and probably never has. I routinely leave RA's when it turns out I can't get the mission due to cooldown (or, recently, the mission turn-in bug). Have failed a few over time, too. Or warped out when its obvious the boss is not going to die in time. Never got a penalty.

Only STFs have leaver penalty. And nothing should give a penalty for leaving after the mission has already failed. What are you supposed to do, stay there in the empty map?

    This is definitely a bug.

I wouldn't consider it a real ban, as in the ban you get for exploiting, insulting or using certain third-party tools. It's just a leaver penalty, and while it may be a bit irritating if you get it while being innocent, it's just a normal game mechanic. Other mmos have had them for quite a while, too. (deserter debuff in WoW, when you get kicked from dungeons and battleground for example)

    Ok, two things

    1. The serverside can't really tell the difference from when your machine crashes or if you intentionally disconnect.

    2. You're not supposed to dig up threads more than a month old

    OK askry, do you thing.
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
    What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!
