I was logged in tonight, and apparently, it's a crime to offer to sell an item on zone chat, because they assume that when you offer (insert item here) "who wants it?" apparently means that it's ok for a person to assume that the person is giving away an item for free. So when I asked that player twice to make me an offer with no coherant response, he basically made a false accusation of me, engaged in libel by saying that I was being a spam troll, because he was an entitled maggot and vermin who wanted the world for nothing. Even though the scumbag chat blocked me, I was still able to sell my mark XII weapon for at least 230k, thank god. Back to Captain Scumbag who had blocked me, I in turn submitted an in-game report to GM ticket for libel. I doubt it will get resolved, but it's just so infuriating and disgusting to know, that people CAN and WILL abuse this feature, whenever something doesn't go a person's way. It's time to grow up, people. Grow a spine, and learn not to assume.

Sell stuff on exchange and make the Zone chat tab go bye bye. That's the best i can think of.
And libel... not even possible here technically speaking, not by players anyway.

That's pretty much the correct solution to take, my friend. You can't do anything nice for people, because we live in a horrible, rotten society filled with horrible, rotten people. An MMORPG is only as good as the people who play it. With the generation the way it is, the people who play the game are not very good people at all; it's like living in the movie Idiocrisy.
Zone chat is not a sales channel, it's a cross zone chat channel. If you want a sales channel then I suggest making one and advertising by word of mouth, rather than filling a regular channel with sales drivel for an item few people care about.

If you MUST sell for a stupidly high price put it on the exchange
If you really can't resist selling it in chat there is a merchant channel
If you ask "who wants a (insert here) in zone chat you will be assumed to be a nice person GIVING stuff away (as I occasionally do with bolian bridge officers )

Ok. Here's the kicker. I see what I'm doing, as possibly helping someone out, rather than waiting on the exchange to get the cash I want. It's an option I was willing to take; I get a bit of credits, the person gets a weapon, shield, etc., and they leave happy.
A merchant channel? What merchant channel? This is the first I've heard of it.
The problem with your third statement is the problem that they're ASSUMING. You've completely missed that point; they're still ASSUMING. As in making an TRIBBLE of U and ME.
And no one said I was asking more than the book price, let alone acting entitled. If this is in regard to me selling that weapon for 230k, that was not my asking price. If anything, another player was the ONLY person to properly start the conversation off with an offer; that was his asking price, not mine. I took the offer and he got what he wanted.
What a lot of you players fail to grasp, since the current generation doesn't understand what social skills are, is that when it comes to things like hawking equipment, there are things such as, "negotiations," and doing what the Ferengi does best which is "haggling;" making deals. Players are strapped enough for in-game currency in here. The least I can do, is try to save a few STO players a few thousand credits. I can be a generous player, and I most certainly am. Please do not accuse me of being a money grubber when you don't know the whole situation. Thank you.

All right. Let me ask you this question, then. If you were being accused of something you didn't do, then how would you react? What's your solution?
Posting it over and over is spam, just like the Fleet recruiting tards.

I wouldn't be spamming a non-sales channel with items for sale. And IF I did, I wouldn't just say "Who wants it?" I would just link the item with a price and leave it at that. You got exactly what you deserved.

In this situation (a game) you just move on. It's not a big deal and won't really affect you in anyway.
Wasting a gms time with this is silly (as someone else pointed out).
Assuming you weren't spamming you have nothing to fear from this guy as any gm will likely back you up.

It's a game, so I would ignore it. If it was face to face they'd get the sharp edge of my tongue but in this situation it would just not be worth the effort.
You're assuming they know it means to sell. In this game if you do not state a price or say "make me an offer" then generally if you ask if anyone wants it is taken to mean free. I learnt that to my pleasant suprise when I was relatively new to the game.
You mentioned "negotiations" and "haggling" that is what the "make me and offer" is about.
Okay, let's turn that around, shall we? Zone chat is not for recruitment. Nor is it for asking for teams. There are fleet channels and other player made channels for such activity. I suggest using them rather than filling a regular channel with drivel about guilds or teams that nobody cares about.
Wrong again, Fido. A chat block is triggered when you get that magical 21rst mark. Anyone using either ignore or report spam applies a mark to you THAT DOES NOT GO AWAY UNTIL YOU'RE SILENCED. You can sit at 20 for a whole year...and suddenly, someone new decides to ignore you....BAM. 24 hour mute.

You will most likely be told what you should have done in the first place, and go put it on the exchange.
Selling in zone chat is also one of the quickest ways to get chat banned....
This thread has now most definitely run its course, and isn't providing any civilized discussion, so due to this as well as the nature of the original post, I'm closing this thread down.
Please remember that if someone's ingame chat upsets you, you can right-click their name and "ignore" so you no longer see any posts from their account. If you feel their behavior violates the terms of service, you can open a support ticket ingame with a category of "Behavior" to request GM review. The GMs will not tell you how or when the issue is resolved, for privacy reasons.
