On this account, I have 11 characters. While updating some of them, I went to the Exchange and purchased a Purple-Quality Saurian Bridge Officer for each the toons I was updating. Each time I searched for one, I always selected the Purple rarity option for the search criteria. Each time I bought one, it was purple quality until they joined my crew. Now all are blue quality.
Anyone else having this issue?
Is this problem only with Saurians, or with other races as well?

It is the efficient trait. It confuses the game. Purples with that trait turn to blue and blue boffs turn to white when they are commissioned.
It is a display error only, the boff is the same you purchased, don't worry.
Its not just Efficient, it also happens with Gorn that have Superior traits, and a couple of others
The traits dont change, so you still get what you paid for, its just a bug in the display code. It can lead you to error though, if you forget they were originally purple and get on a bend to upgrade all your crew (happened to me once)
It's not a bug. The game doesn't keep track of a boff's rarity at all when they join. The displayed "rarity" is just an educated guess based on traits. Basically, if it has 2 superior traits it gets colored purple, with 1 superior blue and so on. Unfortunately, this pattern is far from universal so the system guesses wrong plenty of times.
It doesn't affect anything but the color of one line of text. Just ignore it. IMO the devs shouldn't have put that feature in at all since it's not accurate.
