Has anyone read the part where they talk about PvP in the last 'Ask Cryptic'?
No?
Neither have I.
Because not once was PvP ever mentioned. Things like extra dilithium for repeatable PvP missions have been greatly appreciated, as well as the long sought after fix to FAW energy drain, but beyond that we've had almost nothing in development since the games launch.
Full disclosure: I'm not one of those PvP that whines about balance, calls everything I don't use cheese or OP, or pays much attention to the morality of creep - as long as the meta changes, the game stays fresh and FOTM doesn't become FOTY I'll still play.... Hell, I'm kinda enjoying the Nuraka grid for new passives... However....
In previous sessions, there has been talk of some sort of PvP reputation system, fleet vs fleet starbase defence, leaderboards or rank system, matchmaking, new maps/game modes, MK XIV being pvp only, and so one. Fundamental changes to how PvP works and it's place in STO - yet all is silent.
Which is strange because from my POV, PvP would be one of the biggest areas of growth now that Romulans are in game and the episodic content for both factions is complete.
So I Ask Cryptic, from Season 8, what can PvP'ers hope to expect?
It sucks because everyone insists on creating 10 different characters for no real reason. (and lots of bad ones, especially with lots of TRIBBLE being none transferable between characters and cryptics tenancy to randomly introduce new respecs )
ya, i noticed there was not any pvp questions. the month befor i got my pvp question answered, guess no one asked one this month? i was at work for like the exact hours the thread was open this time lol
No expectations here. If they failed to give us at least one new map with new code they apparently introduced with LoR, what to expect. Ill play as long as I play with what they gave me. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

No expectations no disappointment.

I've just about given up. The only hope I have is that PWE will force Cryptic to do something, though I doubt that will happen if they are pleased with the number$ they are getting from STO.

although if you remember they did say up until about 4 months ago that pvp was important to them and that we were to expect a major overhaul when that other game of theirs got released....
but yeah...
guess we're not important enough to even lie to anymore?
could be we're not, could be that the PvP community PLUS the KDF just aren't a combined demographic large enough for the company to give a **** about anymore...
Or, it could be that they're really stuck for what to do given the size of the task, the expectations of the audience, and the sheer number and magnitude of the bugs, disorders, and such they have to deal with just to get the REST of the game running correctly.
At any rate, it IS nice not to be lied to anymore, even if the alternative is stony silence.
If they would fix Pvp or update it the community would grow. I dont like the pvp in the game right now which is why i hardly play anymore. Get some new pvp installed along with some open world pvp and the community would grow a lot bigger.
I wish it would be possible for the foundry editor create PvP maps. But then again, they'd have to fix the foundry....
:P:o
This right here is an excellent idea and deserves it's own forum post. People would be able to create their own maps as well as adding additional challenges and objectives to them to make PvP way more interesting. It would also give the ability to create faction based maps or maps that included a third AI faction (like cardassians or dominion) to make things more interesting.
I for one wouldn't mind seeing a map involving hunting against the Hirogen. It would be a ground map like the tholian space map but instead of rescuing ships your team and the other team would face off trying to kill the bigger animals for points.
Apparently, he guy who originally the STO PvP mechanics no longer works for them. And was done in the Atari era when they were ****ting a brick and hurrying STO out of the door.
Can't really blame them for not wanting to unravel that mess.

The way I see it. . .why, exactly, does anyone bother to really put resources into getting new ships and the universal consoles that come with them? Most of the universal consoles aren't especially useful against PvE enemies, but have use in PvP. Most of the souped-up ships are excessive for most PvE content, but are more or less 'needed' to remain competitive in PvP.
I have to wonder just how big a part the PvP community plays in regards to ship purchases. I just have trouble thinking a PvE Kirk would buy ships like the JHAS or the other really leading-edge ships. . .just to shoot a bunch of stupid NPCs that could be annihilated with a free ship (I've kicked TRIBBLE in STFs using a friggin Hegh'ta).
We might be underestimating the impact the PvP community has on ship sales, is what I'm saying. Letting the PvP community continue to wither away would be a bad decision in the long run, imo.

Good point. I asked about this a while back when Neverwinter had its beta for STO lifers. Did anybody have a look at it to see the awesome pvp mechanics we've been promised in action? Any clue what they were talking about?
You think PvE heroes don't use parsers or squeeze out every DPS they can get, even when it's overkill to a ridiculous degree? (also: I've run lots of STF's in Hegh'tas, even downgrading to the 'free' Norgh and Ki'Tangs before when I wanted to test a concept...and there is a fleet that's run Elite STF's in Mirandas...) they do, you know, players that wouldn't TOUCH PvP go gaga over the Bugship because it's a faster way to complete an STF, likewise for the Kumari and Fleet Defiant. You actually see MORE diversity and MORE 'free ships' in PvP than you do in STF's.
The big money buyers aren't in PvP-they're in PvE, running time-trials.
I would argue however, that on average, pvp'ers spend more than the average, free2play weekend warrior that makes up the vast majority of the player base.
No expectations anymore. Instead, they often change stuff to the worse (Invisible Walls, FvK Queue Waiting List invisible, ...).
PvP Community maybe never grow big. A lot of people can't cope to loose. It is easier to kill an NPC with the same tactis over and over again, instead of dying alot against other human players.

I think both are pretty accurate. While I expect the number of people that would buy the Jemmy to be higher PVE side, that would account for those who see it as a faster way to do an STF or an extra boost in doing No Win Scen, but also those who just must have the best for the sake of it, or the many that simply want to own all the ships, regardless of what they do and how they work.
PvPers are all of the above but with the added urge to get something new to try against people and in the hope it'll unlock another way of playing that will give them the edge. Though i'd be willing to bet that your average PvPer, that stays up todate on trends etc will spend more then your average Kirk.
