I've had an issue for a long time now, though only since the new rep faction being introduced has it become a concern.
I can run STO quite happily with all graphics settings at maximum and rarely get framerate problems. Load times can be a bit slow, but other than that my combat framerate is never below 25-30 and my standing fps is around 50-60. Space rates are higher still.
My problem is tholians. When I target one, my fps drops to like 5 as long as it's onscreen. I notice that when I turn post-processing off, the issue stops. While that's fine that I have a temporary solution, I don't fancy the idea of having to turn PP on and off again every day to do Nukara dailies.
It's a shame really cos PP really adds a lot visually, but the fps makes Nukara unplayable.
Is this a known issue with any permanent solution?
Win7 64bit, Nvidia GTX 460 SLi, latest beta driver (although this issue has been around since Tholians were first added) i7 930, 12gb ram.
I to have been having this problem for a long time. The game runs grate almost 100% of the time but as soon as I look at a Tholian in ground combat, my FPS drops to 5-10 and the game almost drags to a halt.
I have also found that in some area the game will crash to a black screen and I will have to restart my PC. If I am lucky it will crash and I will get the your drivers have crashed and I can just close the game down. I have found through A LOT I MEAN A LOT of testing and many many crashes I have found that in those area if my shadows are set to anything higher then low it will crash set them to low or off and I keep on trekking with a crash.
PC Specs.: Win7 64bit, CPU i7 930, Duel Nvidia GTX 580 SLI, Nvidia GTS 450 for Physx, 8gb ram, newest whql 320.14 drivers.
